Iv'e lost all my data, should i convert to a normie?

1.3tb I lost all my movies vhs, dv recordings personal files everything in hdd fail,,, no chance of recovery. Im heartbroken. it was a new seagate barracuda 2tb i thought it was a meme them being so shit. had for 3 months and dead already.

Im in 2 private trackers and used to hoard movies in blue ray and they looked amazing everyone thinks im weird because i still download movies when i say. since ive lost the drive, should i just NOT buy another... because i was planning to buy another drive maybe a 2tb ssd and torrent to that instead (ive had 3 hdd failures in 6 years cannnot take it anymore). but im also trying to become more normie since ive been an autist my entire life. should i not get another drive and get used to shit quality streams? my internet is shit also so cant always stream hd. what u guys think

best thread today

Who the fuck cares if you lose movies, you can always re-download them

> seagate
more like suck it

HAH GOTTEM BOOOYYYY

did u use qbittorrent?

First off, always have a backup, not a fucking RAID, I mean an actual backup.
Second...
> 3 hdd failures in 6 years
The fuck? I've got WD drives in my backup server that have been running 24/7 for six years.
Also, if you monitor the SMART status of your disks, you won't be blindsided by shit like this.
Third,
1.3tb ain't shit. Start again, this time with a good backup strategy.

deluge
muh tracker ratio, cant get them all back
most importantly i lost my family dv recordings i had t do myself which took months, each tape real time
quantity is a lot for me bc a lot were family recordings gone, id have to spend months rerecording from tapes again to get them back.

i know i will backup now.

idk why im so unlucky with hdds, first one died over time started clicking then died, second in powersurge, since then use laptop and this just died for no reason.....

cant tell if ur laughing at me or its a good question,,

can someone give advice about if torrenting is normie and whatnot bc soon i will be going uni i dont want to look autist but i do rly love my hq mkv encodes

Should have bought an iron wolf.

>lose data to a hard drive failure due to not having a backup
It sounds like you already are a normie.

>can someone give advice about if torrenting is normie and whatnot bc soon i will be going uni i dont want to look autist but i do rly love my hq mkv encodes

Start over. It feels bad at first, but you eventually get your collection back and even better.
I lost all my music once. It was around 1.5TB of flacs. Now I have ~ 1TB without the music I would have honestly never listened to again.
Don't despair, friend.

are they good? its still seagate tho...
honestly thats really nice to hear
im serious, not bait... i used to be mega autist now im trying to live a normal life, i just slid that joke in there. nothing beats torrenting movies from private trackers but it isnt normie so is it worth to keep doing or should i do somemthing else like stream.... my laptop now is half empty and its basically no different to a chromebook now with a tiny ssd and shit specs. i could go all out normie and get a chromebook but i dont think i could stand it.
rn im thinking about getting a new ssd or hdd whichever is best value and starting again but this time it'll probs be 1tb not 2 and i will try to not get so attached to them and allow myself to delete them when im done.

fuk tho all those family recordings are GONe this is rly upsetting for me

its true about half of it i wouldnt watch again, but i rly loved my collection of indie movies from my favourite directors and whatevs, if u use a 7mm drive which one is it? i want something reliable for ext4.

i cant exactly start over bc ill never get the family tapes back but i guess i will get back the movies i didnt get round to and continue i guess? i want to do this the most normie way possible.

again not bait thread im serious.

>ive had 3 hdd failures in 6 years cannnot take it anymore

Do you not know that you can learn from the past and take steps to prevent previously observed undesirable states?

I have some seagate and they've been working none stop 4+ years no problem. I've got a 3TB western digital it works but recently showed signs of reallocated sectors, lost 1 file in that corrupted sector but it sorted itself out.

>ive had 3 hdd failures in 6 years
And STILL no backup regime? Why the fuck are you even on this board you retarded faggot?

i bet you ran the torrent client off of the hdd you where intent on storing them on.

read and seed files from something that's NOT your 4tb drive.

what recovery methods have you tried?

Normies don't understand the concept of torrents.

Why would you not make a backup of those DV tapes IMMEDIATELY after you captured them you fool

Not a bad attempt to induce rage by trolling.

>"all muh stuff" is 1.3tb

user, you already were a normie

>are they good? its still seagate tho...
They are all shit. Backup your stuff retard.

Where the fuck were you when we've been talking about backups?

>only 1 tb
>a seagate hdd
>a 2 tb hdd
>no raid or backups
you've been a normie all along, don't worry.

why are seagate still in business? the only hdd:s ive had breaking were by them. samsung, toshiba, wd all worked perfectly but both of my seagates failed.

> i thought it was a meme them being so shit
It may be a meme and yet "have a backup+RAID, HDDs fail" isn't a meme.

> should i convert to a normie
No, you should set up decent storage now and going forward.

Because small sample size. And maybe a worse than average series of HDD, but it's not actually that easy to tell.

idk what u mean exactly, i have deluge installed on my os ssd, and i torrent directly to my hdd. was private trackers so only occasional traffic.
badblocks, fsck, e2fsck that shit, but the main thing to me to know its dead is that gparted and gnome disks cant mount it, or check filesystem, repair filesystem or even format it. its just "unknown media"
ive given up but if im being dumb lemmi know and ill try it.
lol my cousin shes 28 used to torrent like 10 years ago shes a mega normie but it wasnt the same back then, when i showed her what im doing she called me a nerd. most western normies under 30 know about it i think but only spergs use it. i dont want to be a sperg anymore
i know... im stupid, this was the biggest loss. maybe i will just do again?? or idk desu...... to get it done in a shop is too expensive. because of all this too im thinking selling this laptop, more on that at the end of this comment.
i wish i was trolling, i guess im kinda normie, i cba to carry backups.. but this wasnt worth it.
i promise u this isnt a troll
thank u :,)
im considering getting an ultrabook with no option to hoard data, this is true normie way. but i love my thinkpad. i love sony shit too so might get an oldish vaio that isnt autistic
given the amount of memes here i thought that was one too, its happened twice to me before but only after years of use, this happened 3 months in. i didnt have time. but yea its still my fault i was stupid.
:) thanks rly makes me feel good..... fr tho i thought i was autist, how much do u have and everyone else?
ive had 3 drives die on me in 6 years, one hitachi (i think), one WD and then this seagate.
but raid is autism, im trying to be normie. is cloud my only option?
>No, you should set up decent storage now and going forward.
i might sell x230t for an ultrabook, i want normie life. not hav to wory about these tings anymore

> im trying to be normie. is cloud my only option?
Probably the main option, yes - it's how larger data providers arrange their "RAID" nowadays. Just be sure you carefully read what you're renting.

It usually gets expensive for larger volumes of data though. It's likely not going to be as cheap and easy as throwing $300 (+$10 or something yearly for 24/7 drive power consumption) at the problem if you want another 16-20TB of storage in your array.

>i want normie life. not hav to wory about these tings anymore
If you want normie life, you post all your photos on fucking instagram and facebook, watch youtube telemarketers all day long to figure out what nail gloss you need to buy this week. Your phone also has some data, but that's lost when you change or destroy the phone. And that's basically it. Enjoy your normie life.

Of course if you ask me *that* isn't a compromise worth doing vs just setting up a storage box. But you do what you prefer.

Don't be a fucking normalfag, idiot. Start again and make sensible backups. Autistic spaz, embrace it. Idiot. Carry on.

>what is a backup
I unironically don't feel bad for you. It's like someone crying of getting hurt after crashing their car while not wearing a seatbelt.

Use testdisk and photorec on a standard kali bootable to recover, duh
