Windows 7 was the peak comfy desktop experience. >superior font rendering to 10 >no ads, no telemetry, no spyware preinstalled, no need to fight against the os >polished control panel and system utilities that look like they actually belong and aren’t just a huge clusterfuck >comfy looks, no flatshit, no dark as my soul by default
Why did it go so wrong? It’s true that you only truly appreciate things once they are gone. I haven’t been using Windows 7 for many years, but today I had to boot up a VM that was running Windows 7 and it hit me right in the feels.
effort is hard m8 effort to unfuck 10 years of bloat, to the point that your os has 7 different ui styles cramped together, is hard as hell every monopoly ever always comes to the point where effort is just too hard to keep up and whoever has said monopoly just stop giving any fucks and engage full greed mode the only one who could capitalize on m$ would be apple with their osx, but they too are plain out of fucks to give, since they have their own monopoly within their walled ecosystem linux is too full of autism and epeen contests to ever become truly retard friendly like osx and win10 aim to be (kind of, anyway)
Dominic Morales
>was
I am using it and will keep using it well into the 2030's at least when it actually starts becoming incompatible with commonly available hardware, which takes a long time
I have secured all the important updates + tools + configs aswell and have multiple copies of said OS Backups
Fuck m$. Also linux isn't an alternative
Bentley Gomez
I'm still using it and if I'll be forced to abandon it then I'll most likely switch to Loonix, fuck 10
Austin Davis
>well into the 2030's at least when it actually starts becoming incompatible with commonly available hardware, which takes a long time It won't take nearly that long.
Alexander Smith
>>superior font rendering to 10 source: my ass
Elijah Foster
Can you share a list of what you have? I'm planning to do the same too
Lucas Garcia
when support is dropped by ms give it a year or two till everyone else drops it and new hardware wont be supported sooner with ms pushing dch for drivers
I have to agree with you that Windows 7 was a great Operating-System. I use 10 and I prefer it much over 7 even though I do like 7 too.
But I think we have to move on from Aero-Glass, Gadgets and outdated Security. Windows 10 will be the last Version of Windows and it will be the last one we'll get. So deal with it or move onto MacOS, a Linux Distro or maybe a Flavour of BSD.
Jaxson Hill
>superior font rendering to 10 What are you guys smoking to "see" a difference?
Leo Sullivan
That's why I'm still using it. Maybe I'll have to abandon ship 5-6 years from now and use loonix, but we'll see what happens until then.
Isaac White
I honestly never cared for 7. For me peak comfy is XP with cleartype enabled.
William Rivera
>But I think we have to move fuck off with your shit opinion we don't need change for the sake of change
Thomas Rodriguez
I've never understood people obsessed with font rendering. I've used pretty much every OS under the sun, and I've never noticed any differences in font rendering. I'm not even sure what it means.
Carson Watson
7 is fine.Nearly perfect. All it needed was continued patching. Unfortunately Microsoft is a business with the NSA up it's ass and it wants those Zuck bucks for keeping tabs on you.
Bentley Myers
Woah, calm down. I'm just saying that since Windows 7 is about to have it's Life-Support cut-off, that we'll need to move onto a newer Version of Windows or move to some other OS(E.g. MacOS or a Linux Distro).
Now if you don't want to change and move on from Windows 7 then fine by me. Don't come crying when your PC get's attacked by a Virus.
>Windows 8.1 blocks the User's Path to Windows 10. >Orders Windows 10 CD from Amazon

>tfw 4 GB VRAM limit in dx9 applications
Luis Russell
From what I'm reading online, Windows 10 LTSB is basically Windows 10 but without the telemetry, ads, Windows Store, and Candy Crush. Is that? If so, what's the catch?
Basically w7 with a different look and better support.
Daniel Barnes
The catch is it's a bastard to activate
Camden Parker
Windows LTSB is a Version of Windows 10 that Microsoft aims to hand-out to Enterprise-Consumers. It only receives Security-Updates and no Feature-Updates. Each Version of LTSB is supported for only 10-Years.
MS themselves said that it's best for it to run on things like ATMs or POS(Point-Of-Sales) Machines.
With crackers or what? I'm 100% fine with buying a legit license.
Andrew Ross
10 years of support is standard for Windows
William Flores
>superior font rendering to 10 The fuck are you on about?
>no telemetry, no spyware preinstalled Delusional.
>comfy looks, no flatshit, no dark as my soul by default Literally moving away from this. They literally just made all the Office icons not flatshit and keep adding fuzzy transparency shit. youtube.com/watch?v=vcBGj4R7Fo0

Imagine being such a cuck that you don't know enough to use 8.1 with classic shell.
John Stewart
imagine advertising 8.1 forfree
Benjamin Brooks
I don't think you can buy it legally. If you're a student you may be to get it for free, I dunno.
Leo Collins
Imagine never paying for an OS for well over a decade. Including Windows.
Jack Howard
Yes, for Versions prior to 10. 5-Years for Mainstream-Support(Things like Feature-Updates, Improvements and Security-Fixes) and 5-Years of Extended-Support(This is when MS wants you to start Upgrading and will only provide Security Fixes for the OS that's on Extended-Support).
Isaac Sanders
>superior font rendering to 10 what's the difference?
Carter Rivera
Reminder that Windows 7 users are now like the new Windows XP old farts who refuse to move on. >but..but..things were better in the old days. Move on you fucks.
We'll move on once you're done beta testing updates that randomly delete your files
Gabriel Perez
That's what I'm trying to say. I'm saying that it's better for them to move on from Windows 7 as it's too out-dated now.
Hell, a lot of Schools still use the piece of crap.
Jaxson Moore
We're done with 1809 now. The problem's been fixed.
In fact, 1903 has been released and it introduces a few amount of good Features(E.g. Light-Theme and Improved-Search).
Michael Sullivan
>7 >as it's too out-dated now. The security updates are fine until January 2020. Stop talking out of your ass.
Austin Russell
Yes. My point was that it said only 10 years, but 10 years is quite a while, and as we both know the standard length of MS's support cycle.
If they're releasing a new version of 10 LTS ever couple of years, support wise that's really no different from when an entirely new version was released during roughly the same time frame.
They've said that 10 is the last version of Windows, but really it's more like the last version that actually bothered giving a separate identity, with each new version being a slight rehash of the old.
Aiden Smith
Well, if I have to be honest, I'd actually pay for an entirely new Windows(Windows 11?) rather than getting small improvements and Features every 6 Months.
Benjamin Peterson
I know it's fine just now but we're about 8 Months away until Support actually ends. It's best to use these 8 Months to actually think wether you want to move to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10. Maybe you even want to consider getting a Mac or replacing Windows with a Linux-Distro.
Asher Wood
>superior font rendering to 10 that's literally false
Nolan Parker
You use 8.1 with classic shell and avoid 10 in the meantime. When support for 8.1 ends in 2023 you settle on an obscure linux distro or commit sudoku.
Jaxson Smith
>boohoo xp is the best 7 is awful >everyone rightfully ignores 8 >10 released >boohoo 7 is the best 10 is awful Fucking children and their shit computers. It's the only reason you run ancient fucking OSes, because your mommy won't get you a new computer that runs a brand new OS.
Hunter Bell
>Fucking children and their shit computers. You know how i know you know fuck all?
Andrew Allen
Maybe a bunch of shitposters on old thinkpads were still using XP, but enthusiasts moved to 7 no problem when it came out, i was the same way, I had a Core 2 duo Macbook with xp, but when I got a real build, I installed windows 7 64-bit straight away because i got decent hardware and the os was good, Windows 10 literally sucks.
Camden Martin
I've noticed a difference. The font on Linux is more readable on some low-resolution displays I have than on Windows. But honestly nothing anyone would notice on modern hardware.
Jace White
>everyone rightfully ignores 8 What is so bad about Windows 8? I remember all the fuss when it was released, but I would have expected that to be gone by now. Why is that people are still stuck in 2012 with their attitude towards 8? It's not a bad OS at all. 8.1 is one of Microsoft's finest, with or without a replacement start menu.
No. Font rendering was better in 7 than in 10. 10 has superior cleartype though.
Ian Wood
it does. it is grey market, though.
Jayden Hernandez
For me, Windows 8.1 (Or to be more precise, Server 2012) is a good compromise. No ads, no telemetry .etc, but a cleaner presentation and more mature interface than Windows 7. Obviously you just ignore the metro shit, although I personally find the full screen start menu to be better than previous incarnations if only because it's visually uniform.
My company is upgrading this summer. I'm gonna miss it.
Jaxon Edwards
>boomer
Dominic Cook
Anyone still using it should continue using it. I still use Windows XP to this day, and have never had an issue with Viruses. Do you honestly think MS will cease pushing security updates for Windows 7 while its market share is so high? Hell, MS just pushed a security update for Windows XP service pack 3 a couple weeks ago. I'm willing to bet that it wont be the last, either.
Nolan Harris
>was implying I am not using it right now
Caleb Morris
I would love nothing more than to get my fonts back to being this sharp. XP was the last Windows OS where you could completely turn off AA for fonts.
I tried turning off AA in Win7 and it looks like ass. I hate AA fonts 'cause they all look blurry as shit compared to XP and 2000.
Elijah Turner
All of my DAW hardware runs best under XP. M-Audio Axiom 25 (v1) and a Tascam FW-1082 console/audio interface plus a Tascam US-224 (my portable rig)
Henry White
Good thing they are moving away from the control panel with each update then isn't it, nigger?
Michael Russell
Well any newer versions of win 10 and linux are probably gonna mitigate your shit so you're fucked if you or if you don't, Intel fucked everyone over, luckily I went budget FX build over used sandy build about 3 years ago, I still want a couple of T420 thinkpads, because sandy bridge is still good enough for my needs.
Cooper Moore
I have a Win10 machine, this one that runs 7, and my DAW which runs XP. Of all of them, my eyes feel the best on the XP box. I'll keep running an XP machine for as long as I can for this one reason alone.
Thomas Garcia
>tfw my 8350 mobo has full XP drivers for full native boot That's dope family, stay retro.
Jack Morales
The last time I payed for my OS (other than laptops that came with windows), it came with this
>point of pic related was controll panel this is your brain on microshit
Eli Stewart
>no telemetry >no spyware preinstalled I hope you don't believe this
Caleb Harris
Filthy casual here. Windows 10 made my eyes bleed. I literally cannot understand how badly you can screw it up when actual free software does it better than you do.
Evan Allen
Now they're calling it windows LTSC, but yes it's relatively debloated and less prone to update fuckups.
Austin Gutierrez
i mean i don't update windows regardless, microsoft's security patches are meaningless and all you gotta do is not be retarded enough to get one. this was literally never an issue for me when xp dropped support, i was still using it for ages and only stopped due to hardware/software lacking, viruses were the least of my concerns. my pc isn't being used in the military or some shit so i don't wanna hear like "oh but in really critical cases it's important your computer doesn't get aids" like nah vro it's fine
it's kinda like driving with expired tags, sure it might be an issue but very rarely is a cop ever gonna give a shit unless you get extremely unlucky
Aiden Campbell
moot?
David Watson
stfu zoomer
Dylan Rivera
I hope they get away from it. I hate myself for being so bothered by the flat design shit, but it really does just make me feel like I'm using something sad and lifeless. I want something to break up the sea of white (or whatever color the window is) where the ui elements and content are just smashed together. Possibly the worst "design" style ever since it clearly shits on the notion of using modern graphics to make the system more readable.
Blake Martinez
>Why did it go so wrong?

Henry Gomez
I hope that Windows 11 is better than 10 so I can finally move on from XP.
Leo Long
>was still is.
Josiah Hill
We need to hack it and make vga.sys UEFI class 3 compatible. This way we can use it 50 years down the line
Isaac Ross
It's still Windows 10, so some shit don't work or work badly. Any DX9 applications can crap out anytime
Cooper Rodriguez
Who?
Jason Phillips
I think it'd be easier to hoard a bunch of hardware that can run 7, like AM3+ or Z97/X99 mobos if you're a baller.
good stay there with your gaymes. linux got enough trannys and undesirables as it is
Aaron Ortiz
I know I have no argument besides bullshit feefees, but cinnamon always felt "off" to me and budgie filled its niche instead.
Jackson Hernandez
op is a shill! "no telemetry" "no spyware" my ass both are in windows since the xp days, perhaps even earlier. the search feature checks if you are online and informs micropajeet. the help system does that shit too. dr. watson, the registry, the recycle bin makes a ghost copy. the page is a poor excuse to have your encryption keys or other information on the hdd. default windows 7 takes up more than 1gb on idle, hmm wonder why? (see above) windows media player reveals "personal information" micropajeet os version 7 stores the thumbnail cache (can be disabled) wtf is even simple file sharing? some of the services are necessary for the os to function and oh boy you'd have a hell of a time documenting what those do.
what's next op? telling Jow Forums to buy intel? oh wait...
Joseph Wilson
>superior font rendering to 10 Is this bait? The font rendering is the same, except 10 has higher resolution fonts. Everything else is correct though. I hope zen2 supports it too, still comfy.
Jayden Peterson
I wish they ported mintmenu for mate to cinnamon. It's as comfy as win7, but for some reason they made this uncustomizable piece of crap in cinnamon.
Cameron Edwards
No. 8.1 is. You can easily make 8.1 look however "comfy" you want and it has better scaling, better multimonitor support, native USB 3.0 support and it's much easier to "unfuck" than even LTSC ever will.
Wyatt Richardson
It's a limit for shit taste, it's doing you a favor
