Been running it for five years. Bretty Gud/10

Install Gentoo

It's fine as long as your world file doesn't get too big. Eventually package dependencies diverge and then you get unsolvable conflicts and it can become a nightmare to just update.

I have spent hours and hours trying to resolve issues around python and perl versions and I'll never get those hours back.

It's fine as long as you keep a very lean and focused world file. Ironically it'd be a great choice as a server distribution.

Also never use keyword unlocking or **. It's always comes back to fuck you.

Oh boy, you don't know where you are, do you?

>tfw using it right now to get gcc 9.1.0
how fucked am I?

Selectively unlocking keywords is perfectly fine for packages where a stable version doesn't exist in the first place.
You shouldn't do it system-wide, though. Stable should be the default.

Also running with KDE and systemd.
kek

What do you do while compiling?

The stuff that I usually do. Browse the interwebs, listen to music, fap, sleep.

see It seems many people think that you're not able to use your computer while it is compiling and that you have to stare at the compiling.
Gentoo is pretty comfy desu.

Wtf

Just use Arch

Why?

compiling everything is a meme
you're not going to read millions of lines of code anyway

INSTALL IT ~ It is it's only purpose.

I think you actually need to go to distrowatch first, and then click the distro link to boost the page hit ranking, OP.
Nice effort tho. I shill token has been added to your gentoo-fanclub store account.

problably reflection

GIVE ME BUTTER FACE MOMMY MILKIES

The AUR still compiles stuff.

Photographer censoring his reflection.

I don't think much about distrowatch. Gentoo is okay.

Not fucked. Why would you be?

I also don't know how a photo with an image quality this bad was taken with a camera on a tripod.

>implying arch and gentoo are comparable

fucking skinwalkers getting more pussy than me, baka

sure but its much more easy(not to mention usually faster) to type
pacaur -S projname
...
y
done
than
git clone longassurl
cd projroot
make
sudo make install
...
...
done

i just realised that this post is a mess, im so fucking tired. doesnt matter, you fags get the idea

I wish I was the coke bottle

Gentoo is easy as well

What's up with that pic? The coke is real but only specific parts are painted in black

Looks like the counter js is actually loaded at OP's link.

ok ok il install gentoo after I wake up. i wanted to try it anyways, im planning keeping my blackarch setup on my t470s(no bully, I actually need it for my work) and using gentoo as my desktop distro. I also thought about trying guix but it sees like its way too early to actually try and use it in a semi-professional home setup.

You can use Guix next to your distros package manager if you want to play around/learn it.

better information hygiene than most people.

Cool

proof aliens exist?
wtf is that

you can't have a stable base with bleeding edge packages that way. In gentoo you can just get shit from git or the current branch

One day I will install gentoo. One day.
Also nice pic.

Not that hard to solve.

QUEM?

helemconeme

meme distro that for every single install it has to check dependencies using a single thread a shitty python code. fuck portage in the ass.

Is Gentoo's KDE good? I know it's hit or miss with some distros. Been working well for me on Debian Buster.

If you're gonna do gentoo and go full minimalist might as well just use a minimalust window manager such as dwm
using a DE on this type of distro is like taking performance enhancing drugs after shooting yourself in the foot, why?

With that said , KDE is the best maintained DE on gentoo,m. Thats what most folks that use a DE run

>distrowatch
distrowatch is a meme
i mean fuck look at #1 MX Linux
does anyone actually use that bullshit?

>Install Gentoo

>If you're gonna do gentoo and go full minimalist
Gentoo is by far the most bloated distribution in existence. People like you piss me off so much.

not him but I have just installed gentoo + gnome + firefox and its ~30gb. that seems massive to me but I have no idea if I've missed a step or there is some backlog of data that is just sitting there to be cleaned

Gentoo is just fucking massive.
Portage alone is huge, when you install something on Gentoo it installs the source code, headers, binaries, along with the source headers and binaries for literally every dependency. Blows shit that should be a few MB into literal gigabytes of shit.

Also just to clarify, I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that Gentoo is far more bloated than any other distribution due to the sheer amount of freedom it supplies. If you need to change some shit you can pretty easily with what you already have.

you realise its easy to delete the source files after install ?you have it dones automatically if you wish

At the end you're left with a binary with a lower size since you made it with only the things you need

I don't think I'm knowledgable enough in the slightest to utiilise it properly. I've used it for a week and I think I'll go back to Arch

>it installs the source code
No, unless you ask for it.

> headers
Yea, I guess. But that doesn't increase the size of everything all that much.

> Blows shit that should be a few MB into literal gigabytes of shit
It doesn't. If you're keeping a lot of the old sauce tarball archives around, that consumes some space, but you can also do that on any binary distro to basically the same effect.

Gentoo was fine 15 or so years ago when computers actually benefitted from compiler optimizations in a big way and also saving space by smart application of the USE flag was significant.
These days, with processors that don't really benefit from compiler optimizations and fuckhuge storage space, it's irrelevant.

If people actually use gentoo because of muh ricer flags then they are missing the whole point of gentoo

what's the point of gentoo if not optimisation?

lol what
USE flags and overall customisation are literally the main selling point of gentoo
I mean... that and being an elitist

It's really what arch tries to be, being able to have a distro built on the software that you want it to be built with

but user, the word for that is optimisation

No not really, and it's not muh minimalism too. Try and change the init system on any other distro. Or have a program use a different audio backend that it wants to use. Or install a program that isn't in your distro of choices repo. It's a pain in the ass and tends to break shit so why not do it properly?

who

It's great. Makes the arch weebs envious.
All the better, I say. They belong back on unixporn.

Attached: 1559102210028.png (370x320, 37K)

I use gentoo for the sole reason to not be associated with arch and void weebs, should I be ashamed?

No. Gentoo is the superior distro anyways.

>!beReT4rded can't into gentoo
I'm not surprised, you're fucking stupid. Recompiling such a huge desktop environment is a waste, in gentoo you are basically encouraged to use less software retard. Of course you have compilers and source code dumbfuck, that's literally the reason you use gentoo

that's not optimization.
with gentoo you can have old and newer software without breakages like debian.
that's the reason I use it, packaging for debian is shit, and mantaining tar balls manually is even worse.
It's basically a distro that goes at your own pace easily with less hassle.
It's really, really hard to match and mantain this things with a binary release.

>falling for this tripfags bait
