As someone using a (borrowed) 1366x768 laptop right now I really want to get a higher res laptop even if that means downgrading to CPU with half the power, this screen is awful, I can't stand it.

My consumer HP was a 15.6” 4GB of RAM, 500GB 5400RPM HDD and a 1366x768 TN screen which I got in 2009. Fast forward a decade later to 2019 and I still see them making new laptops with those exact same specifications. Why is this allowed? This was barely acceptable a decade ago and now this is just sad.

Because the poverty spec panels are really cheap and saving $50 per machine in a thousand computer batch is a really attractive proposition for bean counters. Fortunately that practice is dying down rapidly as they realize how much the screen affects usability.
