How is that even possible? You CPU playing a video (30-50% usage) uses about 25watts on desktop processors. The only way it can overheat is if you're not using a cooler.

How come nobody has mentioned h264ify yet? I guess because we all have newer CPUs. If your hardware doesn't support hardware acceleration of vp9 video youtube still pushes it anyway to save on royalty costs. If you use the h264ify extension it might help.

it manages most video just fine in mpv, but chokes on absolutely every "web player" probably due to shitty js/canvas bull, or maybe vp9 like mentioned

4/gif/ works fine, but it might be due to only allowing vp8.
idk what is that webm site reddit embeds in the new design but that shit is literally unusable, fucking 10+ videos autoplaying at once.

mpv can even handle x265 if its 720p or less, but it chokes on 1080p anime, rapidly becoming juddery and irrecoverably out of sync.
av1 is completely impossible on it.
