You're not a storagelet, are you?

Attached: .png (527x93, 17K)

Oooh so terrafying we have a hoarder over here. In any case, I'd only need about 3-4TB to last another 2 years. After that I'll look into more storage, and by then SSDs will probably be far cheaper than they are now.

Wish i had a computer that could run Windows..

Attached: file.png (746x213, 20K)

THATS A LOT OF SHITTING DICKNIPPLES

The real question is how you organize 22TB of anything. How?

No way. Having little storage is like eating just a bite of pizza instead of the whole slice.

Might be large virtual machine fixed size disks

that's a big array

Attached: ztank.png (1626x250, 10K)

How do you use more than 1-2 TB of space on a personal machine? How much of it do you store but never open?

(1) HD video
(2) More than I care to admit

Anime.

hd porn

Blu ray rips of movies, TV shows, lossless music, etc.

Computers have a nifty little thing called "folders", they can even have names that you choose yourself.

>folders
they're called directories

My porn pictures take up 4tb alone
Game library backups take up another few tb
If I got into video porn, it would be way, way larger.
I haven't even backed up my bluray collection, but that would be another 8-10tb
Books also take up a lot of space when you have a lot of them.

I have 1TB of game footage that I may or may not compress and archive. It's useless, but I don't want to throw it away.

for you

imagine the smell

How do you only use up 1tb?

>uses an OS that uses like 60gb of storage
I only have 13TB

Considering throwing 100 dollars at Samsung for a 500GB SSD.
What do I do folks? I want to dualboot Linux and Windows, but the bundle for building the Node.JS, React and such in the project I work on go over 30GB+

Attached: windows.png (261x109, 4K)

>go over 30GB+
h-h-how?

Are you using RAID 0?

Get on my level.

One day I will turn into one of those mad preppers, and then I'll spend $10,000 buying sony optical archival discs and backing up all of libgen, sci-hub and wikipedia onto them with a duplicate in another location, to try to help preserve a portion of the knowledge of humanity in at least some form.

I'm not upgrading my 8TB NAS until I can afford to go to all flash.

IO speed > capacity

500/2 = 250, 250 - 30 = 220??!
what's the problem exactly?

I'm not a degenerate either.

I have more storage than that in my PC
IO speed of SSDs over RAID10 doesn't matter in the slightest for 99% of home mass storage applications.

Sure, also network at 1Gbps, but i still want big dick IO numbers

>nas
The bottleneck is your shitty gigabit ethernet, user. Throwing down all your welfare checks for the next five years on an SSD array will do exactly what your brain does: nothing.

Attached: 1274716772505.gif .gif (208x156, 1.23M)

The human mind can't remember more than 1TB anyway

>Network locations
I don't need my porn on my network, thank you very much.

Lol this.

???
SMB://nas

It's local.

I used to be impressed with large capacities but then I realized 90% of the people with 20TB+ hoard stupid shit like 4k TV shows/movies.

10gbps to my vsan lab and 1gbps to my home network yes. wifi bridge to the rest of my home lol. welfare checks didn't pay for my lab environment.

you're not a networklet to your file server, are you?

Attached: Screenshot_20190605_031113.jpg (538x455, 41K)

>4TB porn pictures
How fat and ugly are you, really ?

And the other 10% are using dynamic VHDs to fake you out. (H/T )

Attached: 1559690204479.jpg (174x303, 34K)

How are you saturating 100gbit.

Attached: gfx_03121.jpg (235x195, 15K)

i'm not lol. I can get about 60gigabit running iperf (just got the card today, spent 0 time tuning it), but real world file transfers over nfs from ram to ram top out at about 2GB/s. Hopefully I can optimize it

Why do people always think of someone collecting porn as being stereotypically fat/smelly, yet someone collecting any other form of media isn't? The people who have that much porn aren't spending all their free time jerking off to it. They probably collect it to share it en mass.

Plenty, doesn't stop me from getting action though. So what's your excuse?

>They probably collect it to share it en mass.
HAHAHA
no

I can't bother to buy a huge hard drive.
Maybe some day I'll buy like 50TB or some shit and hook it up on a RPi as a NAS

Attached: snip3.png (457x82, 8K)

I used to post the storage from my workplace and pretended it was mine. I can't imagine any consumer having 50TB of raw storage

I have about 8TB usable. I'd like to consolidate my SSDs for a single NVME 1TB.

Attached: file.png (522x212, 9K)

For your consideration:

Attached: nas.png (666x143, 32K)

I am, but I'm getting there
% df -h --total | sed -n '1p;$p'
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
total 14T 8.9T 4.5T 67% -

fun fact: my android phone has more local storage space than my desktop pc

forgot pic

I live alone.

yes I am. I use private torrent trackers and usenet as my huge exabyte storage ... for free

Attached: 1559218204736.jpg (234x250, 6K)

Yeah, and when trackers go down, seeders go away, and the usenet dies you're fucked. They're great sources for content, but can't be considered a forever resource.

BD remuxes, hentai, anime, FLAC rips, complete no-intro and redump rom sets, comics, books, lossless VHS avi rips, etc.

someday you zoomers are gonna thank us when digital archeologists sift through our hard drives

It's not that hard, apart from files and folders there is a lot of software that can handle various ways to access data.

E.g. Hydrus if you have a pile of images from the internet, or your RAW editor if the images are from your camera.

Wow, I think samba might do better than that.

You are already using the latest NFS, right?

put shit in folders?

I have several 500gb drives I'm selling on craigslist for $1 ea
buy them

samba is much slower than stock NFS usually

There's also software to put shit in folders for you. One popular thing that comes to mind is Radarr.

No, I think Samba had the lead for a while and is still quite competitive.

Did you try it in your situation? It might run faster than the obviously currently somehow impaired NFS.

SMB really, really sucks compared to NFS. I only have an SMB-based NAS (//datastore) because those useless fucks at WD stopped supporting NFS a year or two ago. The others are all Synology.

>sift through our hard drives

Attached: look.jpg (657x540, 49K)

I'm and no NFS has always been much faster. Samba is faster than windows shitt implementation of their own technology, and it is quite good, but it is still not that good.
samba uses a lot more CPU, both probably don't matter if the CPU isn't your limiting factor, but it usually is on low tier systems. network is easier to come by

>at WD
western digital? or what
do you not just implement your own server services?

Yeah, Western Digital. I had a couple of their 4-drive NAS systems for a while, and after a firmware update they stopped supporting NFS. The drive spec I posted was the one that I still have, used WOL to fire it up and mount it. I don't want to fuck around with my own (NAS) servers when I can buy something that works very well (Synology). time == money

remember that guy with the dual epyc 7601 and the 768tb of space?

oh I see
I use the odroid HC2 with our company and syncthing with a cloned sd card to all of them
I can set them up in different homes / states / countries for the company and the closest one is used for people who connect to vpn or whatever
takes like 15 mins to set one up

Mine live on my home LAN and I mount them on different machines depending what I'm working on or what media I'm torrenting. I come in via VNC when I'm working away from home and it's not bad. (600mb symmetrical fiber)...

their shitt boxes have VNC or your workstation?
you should use spice or xrdp instead of VNC, vnc is dead and garbage lmao.
>sending jpegs instead of screen updates

VNC is installed and configured on the individual machines and part of our standard software suite (I'm a developer), so I use it to maintain compatibility with the fielded software.

Sounds like an overall bad setup you have

Works well for me as long as I have this job. When I move on, it'll be time to reconfigure everythng, but that's not an option ATM (time...)

Laptop running a 1TB HDD
Building a gaming rig with a 128GB SSD for boot drive and regularly updated games, going to add 7 SSHD drives for mass storage

No Windows or MacOS running, BTW

ya latest nfs, but nfs is basically an ancient piece of shit and untuneable on modern kernels. i think it's single threaded which is a big issue

samba/cifs is actually lightyears ahead of nfs in terms of tech implementation and design

lmao

> You're not a storagelet, are you?
I'm not, but not in a usual way.
About a year ago I've lucked out and bought an LTO5 tape drive for about $100. Since then I've also bought 15 LTO5 tapes and 5 LTO4 tapes, making it about 28 TB of space in total. And that's not counting my HDDs and SSDs.

Attached: XoiiZdmGf3oy.jpg (3968x2912, 2.04M)

> No NFS has always been much faster.
No, I remember some time around 4.x samba got good. Often it was actually better than NFS in my tests. You probably should try it.

> if the CPU isn't your limiting factor
That's the cheapest thing to get right, a decent enough CPU is usually cheaper than a single drive.

Nope

Attached: unknown-2.png (1001x848, 79K)

>plex
So it's just garbage storage. 10~20GB movies & tv series that any normal person would be watching on netflix.

A sizable portion is media (and automated acquisition stack) but it also hosts all my isos and local backups.
Also not featured in that rack is a game server and my pihole dns server

Attached: JPEG_20190510_232916.jpg (4608x3456, 2.92M)

>lossless VHS avi rips
that's just waste of space, user

My old 1TB HDD died.

Attached: image.png (254x61, 4K)

You need everything, even the node package to check for odd numbers, thats why.

I also want my own files, so 500GB with 250GB, maybe less for Linux since Windows just hogs for OS will be prety comfy compared to this cramped shit.

I would rather use SSD though, not slow crap. I have 2.5" HDDs but Id not put them in my laptop.

trees

Well, yeah I am, I have a 2 terabyte hard drive and a 128GB m.2 nvme ssd. Im planning on making a NAS though for downloading shows and stuff.

Since I stopped downloading porn I have literally no need for hard drive space. I have a 2TB HDD and it never gets full.

ITT: cloudlets, connectionlets

It's porn isn't it?

>Windows
big oof

I only have 10-15tb of storage at best. Almost half of it is for backup purposes and aren't currently plugged in.

I've got a 21TB RAID on my home server, it's serving my needs fine enough for now. I'll expand it when I need more space.

Actually not much porn, it's mostly movies, tv shows, and anime. Imagine if instead of Netflix, you downloaded everything you watched, and then imagine you never deleted any of it. Do that for a couple years and it builds up.

Shucking easystores has ruined me
