And then some faggot shouted “INSTALL GENTOO!”

What am i looking at?

if I remember correctly it was a pnp transistor right?
read the filename

Geee I wonder

Guitar players and audiophools will always keep them around.
Tubes are pretty based, but some people are just plain delusional about their "benefits".

>their

What the fuck I'm I looking at

Stolen German invention.

How many of these would you need to play Crysis?

The state of Jow Forums.

At __CURRENTYEAR__ standards of performance? Few hundred billion. That's discounting lightspeed lag of course.

Yeah they make good distortion effect because these pieces of shit are highly non-linear. Of course if you use them to implement digital logic then you don't give a shit about linearity, because you don't have any voltages in between of Vss and Vdd. BJTs have a small region of linear mode operation so if you keep the signal within this range then you get pretty much linear output, that's why virtually all audio manufactures immediately switched to those as soon as they became cheap enough. Modern FETs have perfectly linear mode across most of its operational range, that's why power FETs are driven full tilt - you need to transition from fully closed to fully open as fast as possible, because in half-open linear state they dissipate a fuckton of energy as per Ohm's law.

They are making something of a comeback. Vacuum channels are the new thing.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanoscale_vacuum-channel_transistor

Yeah that shit can switch ridiculously fast, and since it has nothing in it that generates electric heating, heat and power consumption are very low. And you don't even need a real vacuum in it, although I suppose not having any oxygen or water in there would be beneficial, so it could have nitrogen or argon atmosphere. Too bad nobody picks it up yet. I mean yeah it basically runs at 10x the voltage of modern CPUs but it's not like 12 volts, PSUs main power rail is 12 volt anyway.

>it's not like 12 volts is a big deal anyway

i guess

yes.
>this. this gentlemen. this is the beginning of a whole new era of porn.
>we'll see people making up fetishes to cater to appetites that don't even exist yet.
>my god. people will be able to quickly share celebrity nudes and gossip at the speed of propagating electrical signals.
>what a brave new world

>can switch rediculously fast
>giant ass capacitances
what?

>giant ass capacitance
U wot m9? Sharpened wire is the type of conductor geometry with smallest possible capacitance.

Can someone supply a video on how transistors work/what they do? All I can find on youtube are sóy overload channels and really complex engineering explanations

Attached: image.jpg (551x363, 40K)

>can you imagine the smell

Transistors are electronic switches.

why was it so big?

Because literal boomertech.

cute snek!

you can turn off and on a current with another current

it's like an electrically-controlled switch
>that doesn't sound impressive
individually, they sound pretty boring, but they're much faster than mechanical switches, and much more power-efficient than vacuum tubes
their simple design also makes them easy to miniaturize

-- and if you're wondering "wait, can i then make a computer out of fucking relays?"
yes.
yes you can.

I still dont understand how those work. It's space magic to me.
At least I'm honest.

the six hundreth post about the apple pro stand will push this thread about actual technology into the archive

tube guitar amps are pretty cool though

First Intel processor. It was used to crack Russian nuclear codes during first world war.

It's ironic that by complaining about Apple Jow Forums accidentally shills for them.

>Phone poster
>Xiaomi

fuck off man

They had tubes doing the same thing before, they probably didn't care that much, certainly didn't envision what it would eventually lead to.

How tf does this turn into a computer? Like I get that on = 1 and off = 0, but how do we get from that to user- customized VR porn games?

How about not having YouTube teach you and try reading instead

Try doing nand2tetris and you'll have an idea of how by the end of it.

underrated

I've seen better looking school projects.

sewing machine

Probably not very. In science/math, the hardest part isn’t getting something to work, it’s convincing others that you’ve got something worthwhile.

is this the new Mac Pro?

turn on and off a bigger current with a smaller current

this thread is full of bait

Is that the new Apple monitor stand?

>Xiaomi
based

>accidentally

this thread is full of down syndrome

but relays (aka chad transistors) where already a thing
If they're good enough for the Z3 they're good enough for gnu+linux

valve amps are so 2018. everybody's using these now.

but also Jow Forumsonsumerism :d :d :d

>Guitar players and audiophools will always keep them around.
tubes are still common in high-power radio amplifiers too

4D printer

Do each of the relays in that video have 3 states?
