Solus is a bit slower than it used to be, and it doesn't work ootb with rtx gpu's (desktop has one), and i've been meaning to try Pop!_OS for awhile and a bud of mine convinced me to try it and it's really nice. It's just a more polished Ubuntu focused more for desktop use.

probably not, I've just followed some readme instructions that said to install it and then run in the folder. changing wm/bar/few apps

KDE, Budgie, Pantheon, and Cinnamon look great ootb. XCFE4 looks pretty good too, but slap a new theme and icon pack on it and it can look sick, same with any of the other DE's.

I think i3blocks has the best and simplest syntax, enable awesomefonts, learn some awk and bash to output the data you want and you're good to go.
