Trying to get into Linux again

So i want to give linux another chance.
Last time i used it was around 2013. Back then i tried Debian Testing, Ubuntu, Manjaro.
Ubuntu lagged like hell, Manjaro just crashed when i removed my video card(cuz it died), Debian was kinda okayish.
But games support was mediocre back then.
Nowadays i hear drivers and games are much better on linux, so i want to try it again now that Win7 is going to be depreciated soon and i don't want to get viruses because of future security vulnerabilities.

So, i have a questions about linux before i chose what and how do i install it:
1. Standard question - What distro to chose? I was thinking going again with Debian Testing, but I've heard that that there are better "stable" distros that have up to date packages.
Which distro has the biggest packages selection?
I would really like something that was polished, aimed for a professionals, like RHEL/Fedora/CentOs, I've heard that they are used in IT industry, which means that they are good, more stable and suitable for normal user too, right?
2. What DE? I liked old gnome, before it turned into gnome 3 or whatever was the name. I also liked KDE3 and 4, but 4 was a bit laggy.
3. What FS? I've heard about fast FS called ReiserFS/Reiser4. Is it any good? Or should i stick to ext4?

It's still a meme

you want conflicting ideas. Bleeding edge distros are not polished and aimed at "professionals". they have older packages where everything works together nicely and nothing breaks.

install Ubuntu Minimal, Debian Unstable, Arch or Gentoo. install both Gnome and KDE Plasma. play around with them. pick one you like.

>they have older packages
meant to say "professional and polished" distros have older packages, not the bleeding edge ones

sALSA?

Devuan, KDE, dolphin.

1. Latest Xubuntu LTS (highly recommend for the ease of use being Ubuntu and all) or Manjaro for a rolling release one
2. XFCE or KDE (I prefer XFCE but KDE is pretty good too)
3. Stick to ext4

Good luck

God I wish Miku would fuck me like that.

Any Ubuntu has graphics card drivers compiled for you, either the Canonical free ones, propietary or third party free ones. Pick Mint or Xubuntu, LTS. The first one uses a DE based on Gnome 2, the second one xfce which is the most stable DE atm.
I have mixed opinions about Debian, so can't really comment anout this.
Manjaro is fine and I've seen people run modern games on it, but there seem to be issues when you want to update distro versions. Either set your /home folder in another partition, don't update, or don't fuck up the update.
Finally, as for "emulation", wine has improved a lot. I use PlayOnLinux, a easy to use frontend, because of being lazy; there's also Proton on Steam which supposedly improves wine's current performance even more.

How many times do you have to get third-degree burns before you understand "don't touch the fucking stove"?

Your posts reek of falling for Jow Forums memes. Install the latest kubuntu or stock ubuntu, use the default settings, and then just install steam. Don't fuck with the settings if you don't know shit. Xfce is trash and I can't believe retards on this board still suggest it.

Don't, it's trash.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Underrated. Asked for sauce and stayed on topic. Amazing.

Unironically go Arch. Drivers and shit are evolving so rapidly that you want to stay on the bleeding edge. AUR also just great.
And a lightweight tiling meme WM. Desktop linux clicked for me only after I yeeted the DE bloat.
And just stick to ext4.

how many times do you have to shiver from dipping your toe in the swimming pool before you understand "you just have to jump in"?

1. Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Pop_OS! for more newb friendly distros. Fedora/Manjaro/Arch if you don't mind diving in a little deeper. Since you're gaming you're going to want up to date kernel+gpu drivers, which is a non-issue on Pop_OS!, Fedora, Manjaro and Arch. If you're on Ubuntu/Linux Mint, you can use Ukuu for the kernel and a PPA for the drivers. Unironically, there are good threads about this on r/linux_gaming.
2. If you liked gnome 2, you could use a fork of it called Mate. KDE 5 is fantastic and super polished. I'm told Gnome 3 is better now. XFCE is always comfy. Just install them all in a VM or something and see what you like best.
3. BTRFS or LVM with ext4.

How many times do you have to be told "shut up, you stupid fucking freetard" before you shut up, you stupid fucking freetard?

Same /v/tard. Kill yourself

Are your hardware specs shit?

video games are gay and so is ganoo leenucks

You know what they say about gentoo

nobody cares, FU

1. Ubuntu LTS.
2. Try GNOME since it's the officially supported DE now. If you don't like it, switch to Unity Desktop. (apt get ubuntu-unity-desktop)
3. Who cares? Ubuntu installs LVM by default so you get snapshots regardless. FS choice has close to zero impact on daily use.
