I used to think those old unix fucks were insane for having chosen those as the primary symbols to structure C programs in considering how cumbersome to reach they are until I realized how fast to type they are - on QWERTY.
Some programs, like VIM, aren't even properly usable on a QWERTZ because the modifier keys you need to type certain special characters also modify the keybinding itself.
If only it wasn't so cumbersome to Type äÄöÖüÜßẞ on QWERTY and if only not every computer I don't own but am sometimes forced to use used QWERTZ, I'd switch immediately.
It's honestly not that bad if you don't program in languages which need third-layer symbols such as braces and brackets (and tilde). Which only leaves PL/SQL at my current job.

German here. I hate QWERTZ with a passion. Same goes for QWERTY, of course. I'm very happy using my own layout. It doesn't make me type faster but it just feels so right. Oh, and all kinds of parens, braces, etc. are very easy to reach. Also, _ without modifiers. Can recommend. All in all great for programming and typing text (German/English) alike.
