I've actually seen several women who use ubuntu, there was a period it seemed like it was the new hipster os. I really don't know why they do because functionally the way they use it is identical to how they would use windows or mac

Ubuntu just werks, my gf uses it on the T400 that I gave her. She just needs a web browser and Microsoft Office (Libre office sometimes is not compatible with Microsoft Office files), the 2010 version runs fine on wine

I met a girl who used Linux once. was so cute. She didn't know fuck all but she looked great using GNOME, she could navigate around that at least.

It didn't last with her and she went back to fucking Windows while I stayed Linux, but it is better to have loved and lost then never loved at all.

Because it wasn't preinstalled when they bought their computer. If it were then most people wouldn't teach themselves how to install Windows instead. It doesn't matter if your OS makes you edit a config text file or tweak the registry, people don't dig that far anyway. They change the default browser and install Steam and change the wallpaper and that's it. Since most of the things happen through browser it doesn't limit you much no matter which OS you have.

And the best thing is that the OS won't start getting slow over time. My grandmother got her Windows XP so badly jammed that it pretty much wasn't even fixable anymore, any mouse click took literal minutes even right after reboot. She went and bought a new one later and I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on it and put in an SSD. Now it's going to stay blazing fast forever. I also offered to be her tech support if she has any issues, but she doesn't. Her computer usage is so minimal that she can't get it jammed with normal use. I think people who love their grandmothers should install a Linux distro and an SSD for them.

My girlfriend is almost always running Debian now. She doesn't know her way around a terminal, or much about computers at all, but uses a desktop environment with as much ease as when a windows machine. She switched from Windows because she values the speed gnu/Linux offers when you have no bloat. She uses it for photography (mostly on digikam), video editing (kdenlive), watching TV shows and general web browsing. She occasionally reboots into her windows partition to play The Sims.

You've been able to repair your install reliably since at least Vista, and I would count earlier versions if you knew what you where doing.
Today it's only simpler with `Repair-WindowsImage`, or the UI's "Refresh" features if you're tablet baby mode. It all just werkz.
