What programming language is truly worth learning when you take away the need of a job or some other typically financial interest? I'm a 21 year old neet that will never have to work and I have all the time in the world, so what languages are really worth my time?

python

well, what do you want to make?
or what are your reasons for wanting to learn a language?

It depends on what software you want to write, what your goals are and what platform(s) you're going to target.

To fill up my time. Being a neet is actually pretty boring without something to take up your time. So I've decided on programming.

this
there's literally no reason to learn a language unless you want to build something

if you really want to just learn a language for the fuck of it you could pick up a book on c#. that was my first language and I still use it today
once you've learned one language, most of what you learned transfers over to the rest of them
for general programming principles that apply everywhere a good workbook is the art of computer programming. that'll keep you occupied

s i c p

SmallTalk
LISP
Prolog
Forth
Haskell
Idris

LISP

Probably pythons since you'll be working alone and dont have to care about maintenance.

>To fill up my time. Being a neet is actually pretty boring without something to take up your time. So I've decided on programming.
yea cool man, we see these kinds of threads daily. READ THE FUCKING STICKY and just fucking google it you fucking moron. Programming is more problem solving than anything, give it a fuckin go you monkey

javascript
you can do almost everything you want in it (from frontend to backend to desktop and mobile apps) and it's super easy to pick up.
not saying it is fast. but it should be enough to get you started.

C or any other language that gives you an autistic level of control over performance.

>I have all the time in the world
Assembly

Python is good for finding work though

>I have all the time in the world
No you fucking don't retard. Honestly, don't bother learning a skill if you're not going to use it. Literally the only reason to learn any language is to *solve problems* with it. If you don't have a nail or a frame why buy a hammer?
No one will be impressed by how many languages you know, or by how many times you've installed arch on a VM, despite what neets on Jow Forums think. Whereas if you've built something useful, you just might reap one of the only benefits of writing code.

Clojure, obviously

>If you don't have a nail or a frame why buy a hammer
actually, lightly smacking downwards on your penis with a hammer feels nice.

I'd say Haskell. The language itself is small and nice, but also has a zillion extensions to play with. It's also an entry drug to category theory. Try doing some project Euler with it, have fun.

I'm confused what you're confused about.
