You're welcome.
Why though?
What are the things you need from macOS's strengths? Specially with a non-optimal use case like a "hackintosh".
I just wanted to try it
Thought I'd be able to use Safari but in the went with Firefox anyway
Also rec me some softwares
you are out of luck. mac has less apps than linux
I don't need much anyway.
For now I need a music player that will play off SMB shares.
why not just use linux
amarok/clementine/banshee for music if you really want but itunes does everything otherwise. I personally use a homebrew spotify.
if you torrent, look for TNT-made apps, otherwise cmacapps is great for direct downloads. Idk what you code in, but brackets is fantastic for web dev, sublime is great for everything else. MAMP/XAMP for your stacks, cmd+shift+. to see hidden files, dive into system prefs for your keyboard shortcuts, disable siri, get vlc for media, iterm2 is nice if you're a typical consolefag but stock terminal does the basics. Rearrange icons in your top bar by holding cmd+drag icons. Enjoy an OS that has the best of proprietory and gnu philosophies
use safari, its the only decent browser available. firefox is bloated garbage, doesnt do basic shit like render colours accurately. At least chrome if you don't care about google crawling your files.
itunes doesn't read flacs which is why I'm looking for a replacement.
Can't find a proper ad blocker for safari, and I'm already using firefox on everything else with ff sync.
OSX can just mount SMB shares. Just open Finder and hit Cmd-K. You can play music from one with basically any music player. Clementine is a decent choice if you're not picky about it.
terminal - iterm2
media palyer - iina
archive manager - keka
desktop custimization - geektool
booru browser - booru chan
I'd also recommend isntalling magnet it gives you window snapping like in win10 files.catbox.moe
any reason you went with high sierra over mojave?
I did the same on a laptop but I'm going to reinstall Ubuntu LTS in a day or two. There's literally nothing you can do with it that you can't do on Linux. And no, Adobe shit, Micropenis Office, and obscure CAD software don't count. Nobody here uses these anyways, and if they did it would be on a Windows machine provided by their employer. On top of being 100x easier to install and update, Linux offers better file systems like XFS, more up to date GNU utilities and compilers, and better drivers that cover a wider range of hardware. Linux also works flawlessly with nvidia cards now, and the graphical settings program can export an xorg configuration file that you copy and paste. Best part about Linux is that 99% of the software you'll ever need is already in the repos, so there's no hunting for installers on the internet like on Windows and OS X.
Kill yourself, pedo.
github.com
Firefox is fine though. If you're using a desktop the extra power drain doesn't really matter, and since you don't have a 4K display the slower rendering shouldn't be noticeable.
>any reason you went with high sierra over mojave?
nvidia card
It's a dead project though. Issue section showed that problems started cropping up since it was abandoned.
Fuck hotkeys not working like I expected is really fucking me up
MacOS is like the poor man's GNU+Linux. It tries to act the same way but keeps your hands tied so you wouldn't crash it immediately. Install the real deal if no one is forcing you to stay.
>wasting a 1060 on gayOS
fucking hell
I'm still using it and it works fine. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to make it work with newer Safari versions.
I'm planning to sell that and waste a Vega 56 on it instead.
And maybe a 4K monitor too whenever I can afford one. MacOS looks like ass on low dpi displays.
It's a really shitty card, basically useless even.
1030 for office and normal usage.
1050 Ti for multimedia.
1080 for gaming.
Apply same for 2000 series. Anything else is a retarded purchase and useless, just made to rake in money from retards or poorfags.
>duocore with a 1060
did you manage do play any games with this?
>ubuntu
HAHAHAHA may as well end it now
It just works.
For whom? IBM?
Good to see you're running a good OS, but:
>Firefox
It's garbage, I tried it recently. Chrome is vastly better.
Mac user here, it's a UNIX OS, good for web development, but can run stuff like Photoshop etc. And it's got nice features like inertial scrolling, spotlight search, things like that. Also my 2015 MBP actually has ports (HDMI, USB-A, MagSafe), and it was before they introduced the flawed keyboard and display cable. Modern MBPs I would be more wary about, and I'd look at Windows laptops too.
Safari gives you the best battery life but you're on a desktop so I guess that won't matter. Chrome has the highest standards compliance, more than Safari or Firefox.
Homebrew is a package manager made for macOS if you're not aware of it. It works well and lots of people use it. Good for development, or even just for pissing around: brew.sh
Also, if you're interested in emulators, OpenEmu for the Mac is great - it bundles loads of emulators into a nice and very useful UI.
>Chrome has the highest standards compliance
Chrome break standards in their own way then force websites to follow because fuck you market share.
The compliance is an illusion.
autism
Beware of mactoddlers they are the worst.
Autists have the urge to make everybody think and act like them. It literally poses a problem in their minds when you don't use what they use, look it up. Most think we're joking, but we're not. This OS is ridden with actual retards and birds of the same feather flock together.
Proceed using what you use, OP.
>Chrome has the highest standards compliance
Chrome fails to play back opus stream from VLC continously.
You can't hear everybody, chrome user.
Fuck both audio and USB is fucked up right now.
At least audio is only somewhat fucked up, but I've given up on USB.
>>/v/
I did. Not the latest fancy games though.
Hopefully I can upgrade to a 6 or 8 core.
I'm on a 27" late 2013 iMac and use parralels desktop with WinXP Pro32Bit installed for programs like Winamp that won't work or do not exist for mac.
The "Coherence mode" makes the programs appear as if they would natively run under macOS Mojave.
Works flawlessly for me.
Anything onboard is a meme with a hack. Fly like a butterfly using nothing but USB ootb supported OS X compatible shit.
Except USB doesn't work
I'd like to install it on a new laptop when my 2012 starts being too shit but almost everything I've seen has major problems like no wifi or discrete graphics not working
Only broadkek wifi works and nvidia isn't supported anymore
freenode
what
Welcome to the master race.
Got zero issues with uBlock on Safari. What are the problems?
Yeah I know. I just don't get why nobody builds some laptops that are fully compatible. I bet people would buy them
linux has shitty font rendering
Hop on freenode and fix it
There is/was a company that sells pre-hacked HP laptops.
No idea how that went.
mac looks just as bad if not worse than my linux install
Based Cute and funny poster
Bullshit!!!
nVidia GPU's are still supported and their drivers are implemented. I have an invida graphics built in and it works perfectly fine and does even run faster than under Bootcamp with Windows.
When i have two external thunderbolt displays connected, under Windows, i can't watch a 1018p video without it lagging a little. But under macOS, the same config does not lack the slightest.
Three times 2560 X 1440 with a nVidia m755 GPU in 60Hz.
Beat that. This GPU is pretty old but still wins the cake.
NV under Mojave? Nigga, what?
700 series and older are still supported
see, you have no idea what you talk about
Font rendering comparison
Top is manjaro, bottom is macos
Chrome gets a higher score on html5test.com than Safari or Firefox by quite a margin. And that site is testing against the official HTML 5 spec.
Use what you want I guess, I just prefer Chrome - historically it has been the best browser ever since it was introduced. And like I say, it fulfils more of the HTML 5 spec than the alternatives. Firefox has weird bugs and quirks in my experience.
>It literally poses a problem in their minds when you don't use what they use
Says the guy sperging out because I'm not using the OS that he uses. Fucking idiot.
I don't know what that is, never come across it. But Chrome gets a higher score on html5test.com than Firefox, and Firefox has weird bugs and quirks like rendering the mobile layout before it then renders the desktop layout (it must start rendering, and then come across the media queries, and then change the layout). I just prefer Chrome.
Interesting. Yeah I know of Parallels' existence but I've not used it personally. I just use iTunes for music. Also I think you can get foobar2000 on Mac these days, haven't used it though.
There was a company that sold hackintoshes, Pegasus or something? And they got sued by Apple for trademark infringement.
And even if a company didn't install macOS, but just advertised their computer as macOS compatible, I think that would probably be infringing copyrights too. Not sure though.
So a company would have to be hush hush about their support for macOS, at which point they can't use it as a selling point, so there probably just isn't any financial incentive there.
Ah it was Psystar that was the name of the hackintosh company, not Pegasus.
>GT 775M
Apple removed support for everything manufactured in the past half-decade.
You must be confusing me with somebody, I did not sperg out. Firefox is the fastest browser in OS X in a non notebook setup. Firefox is the only browser that scrolls smoothly with a $10 regular scroll wheel wal mart logitech mouse. So let him be.
The company is called PsyStar, btw.
>So a company would have to be hush hush about their support for macOS, at which point they can't use it as a selling point, so there probably just isn't any financial incentive there.
They could always advertise it in forums. And a laptop with a broadcom wifi, intel cpu and amd graphics could still be a decent laptop in and of itself.
Tbf, these guys are retards they should have just shipped it with Ubuntu or something
Oh and another thing, before another mactoddler with a wimpy Intel GPU comes along to sperg about Firefox performance: Hackintoshers have beefy GPUs. Firefox renders on those beefy GPUs. Our beefy foxes are faster than your limp dicked iGPU foxes. And the faster the GPU is, the larger the gap between blink and gecko becomes.
But of course you know all that, as you compared benchmark charts and artificial benchmark sites and all that and are also up to date!
You're welcome user.
Hope you enjoy your bloated botnet.
>Interesting. Yeah I know of Parallels' existence but I've not used it personally. I just use iTunes for music. Also I think you can get foobar2000 on Mac these days, haven't used it though.
I never liked the Foobar2000 player and iTunes is just horrible for the way i'm using a music player.
Also, the form factor (windowed player) does not pelase me the slightest.
I like having a player that works, acts, looks like Winamp does. Only AIMP follwos this very concept as well, but is like Winamp, not available for Mac natively.
And i do also use some old programs related to mp3 creating, editing and tagging, that i prefer under Windows.
So the coherence mode is an exellent functionality to use them under macOS.
I'm waiting for the VLC 4 redesign, but my expectations are very low.
The drivers are still implemented. and everything works perfectly.
As said, it's working way better than under Windows
No mate, I didn't confuse you with anybody. You're sperging out that some people use an OS you don't use, then you're accusing OTHERS of having a problem when people don't use the software they use.
>Firefox is the fastest browser in OS X in a non notebook setup
I've not seen evidence of that personally. I know Firefox has gotten faster recently, and maybe it pips Chrome in some benchmarks, but I'm still not convinced to switch, when Chrome is usually the fastest, and is definitely the most standards compliant as seen on html5test.com, and has probably the largest extension ecosystem (I'm guessing there, but since Chrome is the most widely used, it would make sense that it would attract more developers). Also I've noticed weird quirks in Firefox - it seems to render the mobile layout of a page before the desktop layout (it must start rendering, then see the media queries, then adjust), which is jarring. And on select boxes, it uses a UI widget that looks like it's straight out of Windows 95. Combined with its lower score of standards compliance, I'm not convinced.
I used to use Firefox on Windows back in the IE days (early to mid 200s) because it was vastly superior to IE. But Chrome has pretty consistently been the best browser since it was released. So I use that.
Advertise it for who? There aren't enough hobbyists who are too lazy to make their own to make it a viable business. Poorfag corporations wouldn't want to rely on a legally uncertain and unsupported OS either.
I used to love Winamp but iTunes grew on me. Did you play around with the options to adjust it more?
For editing and tagging it feels faster too, at least for smaller scale like an album or two. Wouldn't want to tag complete works of some classical composer with it.
Well then have fun, nigger!
1060 6gb is best value imo
I went back from VLC version 3.0.7 to the most actual 2.XX version, because of a weird stereo imbalance that all 3.XX versions suffer from
A video played in VLC then makes all voices appear more right channel orientated, which is very annoying since they are not standing right in the picture.
Even actors standing left in the picture appear louder on the right channel.
I even went back to 3.0.1 and it was all the same. both under Windows 7 and macOS on my imac, as well as on my wifes Samsung Laptop with totally different hardware. Even friends have reported to to me this being an issue, no matter of hardware and OS.
But the web is literally empty of this issue. You can't even find a hint that this is a problem.
I first thought my headphones went nirvana.
How to into Hackintosh?
So who the fuck cares about the fastest browser???
Seriously, if a website loads in 0.2 seconds or 0.1 second does not even make a fucking difference.
I use Firefox on all my OS's and machines and it never let me down, and also never crashed.
I literally give a fuck about the 0.1 second that my firefox may be slower than other browsers.
You are wasting way more time on other things that no one believes being a problem.
>I used to love Winamp but iTunes grew on me. Did you play around with the options to adjust it more?
The very concept of iTunes is in my eyes a pain in the ass. I never like the classical Windowed player layup as a whole, not to talk about the entirety of it's GUI.
On Winamp, i can just make the playlist as wide, long, short and thin as i want and then stick with it.
A big plus is that i can change the looks with gazillions of skins and color settings.
All options i need are under the surface in the options menu and don't bother me when i don't need to reach them.
If i really need a database, then i can enable the "media library" and sort by all kinds of cathegories my mp3's are tagged with. Just like iTunes does, but in my opinion a more pleasant way.
I tried iTunes and used it for years and i always hated it.
Could never get warm with it and i'm super happy to have Parralels 14 now with coherence mode, that brings me back Winamp.
The Nvidia Web Drivers do not work on Mojave. You need the Web Drivers for Maxwell and Pascal cards, which are what most people have in . The GTX 1060, for instance, is a Pascal card.
So what?
My 755 chip is supported and works perfect.
where is your problem?
Probably the fact that most people have sliiiiightly newer cards than a 755.
Apple supports the GPU's they built into their computers.
why should they implement drivers for GPU's they don't even have in their lineup?
You are complaining about a nonissue here.
read
Not everyone is a worthless NEET with enough free time to install Gentoo and/or Arch on their only computer, faggot.
wtf nigger, just use mpv
>Advertise it for who?
Anyone who wants a Mac laptop but doesn't want to cough up the money and deal with the shitty hardware.
Maybe I'm just ignorant about how laptop manufacturers decide which parts they want to use for their models. It seems to me that there isn't a whole lot of difference between the parts that are supported and those that aren't. Whatever their vision for a laptop is, I doubt it couldn't be achieved with parts that are also macOS compatible. It just feels like the choice to use Qualcomm over Broadcom, Nvidia over AMD, or AMD over Intel is mostly arbitrary. But I have no idea what I'm talking about to be fair.
Either way, there definitely is a demand for it (many people install macOS on their laptops despite all the problems) but nobody is providing to it.
cmd+shift+3 screenshot of entire screen
cmd+shift+4 select area yourself or press [space] to select only a window
You can also set it up to save in a format you wish and in a folder you wish. No other OS that I know of is screenshotting so easy and good as on MacOS.
>You are wasting way more time on other things that no one believes being a problem.
It's knowledge and you should go fuck yourself, advertisementcuck.
I use Winamp for music and VLC for video files. No reason to change that. Certainly not if the player recommended to me doesn't even have a settings menu. The autistic way of settung mpv up is a big no go for me.
But thanks for the suggestion.
Post the wallpaper
MacOS: UNIX and POSIX
Linux: Not UNIX nor POSIX
>It's knowledge and you should go fuck yourself, advertisementcuck.
You can put your atuistic knowledge sperging about a non issue up your ass.
What fucking issue?
Didn't they promise external GPUs? Why not at least provide some basic ass drivers for these?
If you say that firefox is shit because muuuuuhhh 0.1 seconds slower then it's poretty much a nnon issue. And then you ask me what fucking issue you have?
Seriously?
But you said firefox is 0.1 seconds slower yourself, that wasn't me
>Didn't they promise external GPUs? Why not at least provide some basic ass drivers for these?
Sure, i provide spare parts for a car that i have yet not built.
Makes totally sense.
and i said it's a non issue, because you waste hours or even years on shit that makes no sense to me.
Where is your point?
Where did I waste hours or years on shit to find that out? Are you retarded? You notice it within seconds, maybe minutes.
What the fuck dude.
Beware of mactoddlers, they're just the worst.
>1080 for gaming
Yeah gl running ray tracing onto that
Hardware anywhere near a Macbook would run you into 1k bucks (and keep in mind that large manufacturers can save a lot due scaling), so the 200-400 bucks saved would be at the price of size/weight and OS. There would be more savings due it potentially being easier to upgrade but at the cost of having software that kinda runs for now.
Of course there is a demand for it but it doesn't sound massive enough to invest money into building that sort of company, even if you can avoid the legal side.
>It just feels like the choice to use Qualcomm over Broadcom, Nvidia over AMD, or AMD over Intel is mostly arbitrary
They tend to have certain goals in mind and they just get the cheapest stuff to accomplish the goal. AMD over Nvidia is given as the latter is expensive as fuck. Intel over AMD is given too, since AMD mobile chips don't do low power. Modems depend on what kind of extra shit you want to accomplish.
>ind that out?
Never said that.
Read my comments you fucking idiot. I said you probably waste years on shit that makes no sense to ME.
Reading comprehension isn't your strongest side huh?
Just switched from VoodooHDA to AppleALC
Now audio is completely broken.
Fuck
>running a hackintosh which doesn't even support nvidia GPUs and won't have working audio, or wifi, and any number of additional problems
Yeah enjoy your shit box, idiot.
>loses the argument
Pottery. Fucking idiot.
Yeah very true, screenshotting is much easier on macOS than on Windows.
And if OP is interested, here's what you put into Terminal to change the file format of screenshots:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type JPG
Or replace JPG with PNG to change it back to PNG. I often switch between them for different screenshots - obviously photos will require JPG since PNG will be too large (especially with a retina display), while plain text or simple logos should use PNG.
Also you could just make an alias for this command, or even an Automator app, but I just use Terminal (well, iTerm to be precise) because it's usually in my recent commands (and I just open different tabs in Terminal for different tasks so that it doesn't overwrite that history).
>Infecting your PC with gay aids

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING
Actually funny anti Applel post.
I already have the gays anyway
