Should I ditch Google? I'm starting to realize that having all my email, search queries, chats, contacts, mapping and directions, cell phone ecosystem, photos, cloud storage, music and entertainment, notes, and calendar all with one company is a bad idea. Am I wrong?

if you don't care being so monitored by not only Google, but lots of other companies too, stay as you're at the moment.
but... if you wanna get rid of the empire Google has built, you can easily do it, there lots of alternatives out there.

It is and it isn't. Its a bad idea because googles analytics allows them to take all that information and build a record of everything you've done every day to the point that if you ever break from routine or anticipated behavior they might tell the cops on you.
But for convenience its not technically bad but there are ways to get a similar level of convenience without the spying.

Free one has limit of 150 messages a day, which is imo more than enough. If you are receiving more than that, you are prob making a living out of sending emails and you can afford to pay monthly fee
Hardened firefox (follow one of the guides) with https everywhere, ublock origin, canvas blocker and privacy badger. If on macos, you can use ungoogled chromium (has pretty updated binaries), or gnu icecat on linux.
IMO, nextcloud/freeNAS with nextcloud extension has been the biggest freedom pill. It allows you to sync every single device you own and almost completely be independent.
