Reposting here for hopefully more advice, i have a thinkpad t510 with windows 10 ltsc (inb4 durr hurr linux, pls dont), yesterday it worked fine and dandy except that it updated twice in the same day (weird for LTSC but ok), today opened it up for the first time since the second update, every light that should light up lights up, but it doesnt show the usual bios screen, after like 30 seconds it shows the screen in white separated by 3 black bars, the white parts show sime kind of bios but no the usual one, then it goes black and then.the white screens show the windows loading screen, and the black bars start showing colors, then black, what happened and how do i fix it? Thanks for the attention

Im planning on possibly buying a modern Thinkpad. Are the new Ryzen ones any good?

The t60 is good enough for most things but not for virtualization.

>Thinkpad
>$899
yikes..

Looking at t440p listings. No one is mentioning whether the BIOS security is enabled or not. I've contacted sellers and shit. If the one I order comes and it has bios security how fucked am I for removing it?

you have to wait until 2020 to get a good ryzen thinkpad

Would it be possible to get a backlit keyboard for my W510 or E420?

Usually if they don't mention it, it's not on there. Buy from a reputable seller, and if you're that concerned, send them a message.

Stupid question: should I get a 3rd party AC adapter instead of lenovo for my x220?

Try connecting to an external display, if the same shows up, then it's probably the graphics chip/motherboard.
Otherwise, maybe the flex (those plastic ribbon like cables) is broken. You can get it replaced.
Another problem, if you let it fall down or something, the display itself could be broken.

Replying to this user from the last thread
How much are you selling it for?

T420, recommened mods for it?

screen upgrade

this
1366x768 is totally unacceptable

>tfw T495 has soldered RAM

What the fuck is wrong with chinknovo? Are they intentionally crippling the AMD line?

Attached: 3484697.jpg (500x279, 27K)

I am looking at getting a t440s
should i go for i5 or i7 version?

why isn't t480 in recommended models in the op? it's the guaranteed new classic as soon it gets cheaper

What's the trackpad and keyboard on the T450 like? Thinking of splashing out and upgrading my T410

Why are you guys so retarded about putting the title in the subject field?

Attached: macaco_pikachu.jpg (286x509, 12K)

>change t440p trackpad to t450 one
>nothing works, even the old trackpad
>try many cables and even new keyboard
>now when i boot with that trackpad plugged, i get 1-3-3-1 which means bad RAM or Board
WTF ? Why the fuck dont other trackpad do it then ? And why did randomly both the trackpad and trackpoint stop working

What's the oldest working thinkpad you guys have laying around?
Mine is this t23 which is still kicking

Attached: scrot.png (1024x768, 430K)

Thanks for the response, but i got news! I was in uni when that happened, when i got home i plugged it and it worked as if nothing had happened

>change t440s trackpad to t450 one
> Just install t450 driver from lenovo site and it just werks
Feels good man

are there models that are
>cheap-ish
>light-medium weight
>capable of doing some 3d work like light rendering in blender or some 3D cad?

or should I look at other kinds of used laptops?

I have an x230 is it possible to install a 1080p FHD?

With Pepe or chink mod yes.

check out the W line (W520, W530), been rocking a W520 for 3d modelling and architectural rendering work and it's holding up better than I expected.

Got it for about 300eur

Attached: crap.jpg (1570x1080, 1.03M)

explain? I saw one but needs to be soldered anything that doesnt require that?

>anything that doesnt require that?
No

E series, if you actually mean cheapish
You're not going to get the rendering power of the W series obviously, but you'll be able to do some standard modelling

Hello, i got my mom a T420 with 8GB ram i5 and stuff, should i install her ubuntu or keep w10? She mostly uses stuff as web browser, microsoft office and prints stuff, i may have seen her using skype too but aside from that nothing more.

Test

you are fucked if it's enabled

keep w10 put in an ssd if there's not one already

any games?

Replaced my broken T61P w a T540P i7.
Still waiting on a replacement Touchpad and a bigger battery.
Did any i7 come w a 1080p screen? I assume someone just replaced the CPU from an i5 model. Is it worth upgrading the screen? There's some light fading on some of the pixels but they're not dead.

I'm going to upgrade my x220's RAM to 8gb (4x2). Any recommendations on brand?

Are the t60 4:3 14" and 15" motherboards interchangable. Ive heard they are the same and can physically be swapped in either chassis.

ALSO if i soldered a nVidia fx570m 256mb in place of the nVidia fx570m 128mb on the t61 boards, would it work?

At least support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-62741 doesn't specify different motherboard for different screens.

anyone done the t61 quadcore mod successfully?

also, would a w530 cooler fit in a t60

same person but i theorize that its justsame gpu but more/larger ram chips soldered around it. Would anyone happen to have a picture of that mobo gpu.

tell me why I should get a 12 inch thicc pad

I never got the hate for the T420 screen since I own one, now I figure out they're 1366x768. I check my own and find it's 1600x900. No wonder I don't don't hate it.

Attached: imok-1.jpg (480x360, 15K)

Same boat here buddy
I will not be the first one to admit the colors are washed out and the viewing angles are atrocious

What laptop to buy for about 600 bucks that has an i7 and at least 4gb of vram?

Not for games but for video editing and shit
I used to have a W510 back in '15 and it was awesome, although very bulky

Attached: 1551188479958.jpg (1057x844, 103K)

any thoughts on dell latitude e6410?
Is it tweakable modular as thinkpads?

a w510 can be useful this days? for 1080 editing?

Where to buy japanesse keyboard for x230? Is there a one with backlight maybe?

is the t550 any good?

X395 ryzen meme reporting in. Blah blah not real thinkpad I know.

Get the t495 if you need ram upgradability.

This shit is still unironically better hardware than most manufacturers, what the fuck.

I just ripped a t495 apart and put it back together. There's still an empty ram slot that you can populate.

Main ram is soldered tho.

Yall need to read the goddamn OP

I am enjoying my T440p, but the cpu is throttled to 800mhz. Is there a way to change that?

Attached: IMG_20190613_191825_DRO.jpg (2560x1440, 2.61M)

watch yuru yuri

sounds like a plan lol

Mind posting that wallpaper?

My maxed out P1 just came today. Rate or hate my life choices

Is it safe for me to slam my t420 onto the table as hard as I can to greet myself? I've done it a few times and it's been fine but I have a feeling it'll break something soon.

Just bought a mint X230 for $140 usd, i5 3320M, 8GB RAM, and 128GB ssd. Did I fuck up?

Attached: 1535420673022.jpg (640x480, 55K)

IPS screen?
That's alright even without it since it's mint.

Doesn't say resolution or type of panel, but I imagine it's probably the base line panel since the ad says it was pulled from a corporate environment.

what the fuck? Why would you do this?

lol

so i bought a refurbished x230 and this shit is great. Unfortunately i am having a problem with the Sleep mode. Sometimes during sleep mode it wont turn on or respond. I have checked the thinkpad forums and they are still finding solutions for this. Maybe you guys have solved this?

>buy T420
>never use it because the screen is so fucking bad
i should have bought a t440p

Attached: 109120933.jpg (900x937, 76K)

compromise and get a T430

T430 or T440p?

Got a t440p bout 2 months ago. upgraded all ram cpu keyboard screen trackpad ssd whatever.
>upgraded to an i7 4710mq
>idles fine at 40c
>watching youtube temps get up to 85c
wtf did i fuck up thermal paste do i need to clean the fan and exhaust ports? do i need a new heatsink or is the 4710 just a hot cpu. i know haswell runs hot but still. I already disabled turbo boost which helped a little but do i need to undervolt?

that looks juicy. pity about the weight tho

T440p if you don't care about chicklet, want easier way to upgrade to FHD, possible to have GT730M, easy to access back panel, m2sata, and screwed in ultrabay.

T430 if you want the classic look, 1600x900, optimus with some nvidia gpus, quad core is at its best (4th gen is when diminishing returns kicks in), optional keyboard swap out for backlit or classic, thinklight, usb 3, compatible with all previous AC adaptors

I have the 4810QM in mine and its at 55C idol. I think I need to put more thermal paste in it.

the 4810 has a higher tdp and runs extremely hot that one of the reasons i went for the 4710. I heard that the heatsinks for the models with gpus can bring thermals down like 5c but not sure if its worth

Is it advisable to buy at t430 with an Intel core i5, 320gb Hard drive, 4gb ram ddr3 per 116 dollars?

Attached: D8uFjmmXYAE3BUZ.png (583x705, 539K)

T440p started blue screening (KMode exception not handled) whenever I physically move it, what's wrong with it?

Attached: 1560021801783.jpg (242x168, 4K)

i would open it up and first check your ram is all the way in then check basically all your other parts like if you have an m2 in there and make sure connections are secured.
a google search mentioned drivers, im guessing your on linux so a sudo pacman -syu may help

i just repasted my 4710 and made sure i didnt overtighten the heatsink ans well as tightened opposite corners. blew out some dust and ran stress and my temps dropped 6c. try repasting

X61s a cute

Attached: 20190614_005727_HDR.jpg (2560x1440, 1.17M)

I am going to try and sell my x200t. I got it and it was bios locked so I tried to install libre boot but it wouldn't work because of the RAM, so at this point I'm just going to say fuck it and sell it, it was just going to be a project anyways.

How much should I try to sell it for, its in good shape, has 8 gigs of RAM, but is hard bios locked.

Attached: logo.png (1024x768, 124K)

this

But X62 a cuter

Okay will try the simple stuff yeah. I'm a pleb and using LTSB.

t440p with i7-4700mq (47w tdp)
idle is 40c watching youtube I see maybe 10-15c increase
you need to repaste and clean

Yahoo auctions

bought a t430 that was listed as "light wear", it has all sorts of bright spots on the screen. doesn't really bother me much since I use an external monitor but goddamn. I was thinking of returning it but it just seems like a hassle. is replacing the screen hard to do on your own?

No not really, if you replace the entire screen construction its just a bunch of screws. If you want to replace just the panel, there are probably some snaps and maybe glue and tape? - never did that but its doable.

My T440p doesn't have this problem on Arch
