Wow I feel old now as you wrote this.

I wish I could be nostalgic for slot processors and wacky multiple card graphics, but it was never part of my life.

This.

Not just SLI, but passthrough with a dedicated 2D card as well.

Got one of those for 50 cents the other day.
I can't for the life of me get it to respond to AT commands. Maybe it's my serial adapter.

No lie I used to browse this 99 cent store down here in the south and when I was younger they had floppy discs in plastic bags with titles and I bought so many of them.

It's fascinating thinking about how the owner even got his hands on home brew 90s shareware floppies.

Played on and it was a turn based rpg like civilization but instead it was fast food places. Probably will never see that again.

Ya big meme bro. You can't even get sli/crossfire working today without waiting on drivers and praying.

Make a feedback loop and see if you get anything

My cable is good, as I'm getting echo from the thing. I also made sure it's not a null modem cable. It's most likely my USB to serial adapter, which lacks DTR/DCD. I'll have to try it on a real computer.

I literally used to fap to this and I resent that SJWs killed it off.

this shit would always erase my bookmarks when it was open and the pc crashed, and i'd have to start bookmarking websites all over again

And just look at how far you've come

Eh, they kinda died out with the internet going mainstream. Why wait for some lewd mag when you can download lewds.

This. The Voodoo/Voodoo2 couldn't do 2D. They were 3D accelerators only, so you needed another 2D card attached so it could switch between them.

I had to get one because linux never supported winmodems
>inb4 winmodems

>windows95

mexifag?
spainfag?

>Why wait for some lewd mag when you can download lewds.
because back then lewds were rare, hence they grew into you and you kinda treasure them. Now there're so many lewds you can literally print roll after roll of tp just to wipe you ass and it'll be a fraction of what's available.

Could be worse. At least the bios in your pic lets you choose more than two options. Might still force IRQ sharing in certain slots though.

tfw some lewd fanarts from aol keyword sites are lost forever.

Tempted to sell my old VLB cards after seeing they go for hundreds now.

But can it run Doom 3?

Yes it can.

youtube.com/watch?v=KQSIT18bOvg

contrary to popular belief Compaq didn't buy it just to shitcan it for Itanium... they did that later when they realized it was hopeless, 1999-2000 Alphas were limp as shit and rapidly losing their advantage over commodity systems with none of the entrenched software base to make up for it like other weenie RISCs like MIPS and PowerPC had

Itanic was fine for high-end enterprise shit anyway, it only failed with consumers who were told for years that it was going to breach the fucking singularity.

>>then connect that pair of gpus with a completely different manufacturer to switch between
you make this was hard lmao, all the drivers had to do was switch the source from VGA passthrough to the 3dfx chipset when something that supported glide was run

Had similar issues, no real solution. Thinking about buying an expensive serial cable, but can't be assed.

My neighbors when I was a kid went all in on Rambus stock before it split and made an absolute shit fuck ton of money. Bought two brand new cars cash, paid off their house, huge retirement fund. They were set for life, don't know what happened to them after they moved

Where da retro themes at?

So voodoo + matrox was the go to in the 90's?
Thanks this is good to know for my win98 retro build.

TNT2 Ultra and Voodoo2 qty 2 SLI master race

I never understood how the daisy chaining of vga outputs for early 3D accelerators work. Can anyone enlighten me? I assume the output of the 3d accelerator contained transparency coding and is then blended with the output of the 2D graphics adapter before sending the result to the monitor.

It's literally in the name of the cards dummy! VOODOO!
(magic)

>tfw running a V2 on an SGI Visual Workstation
If only it was possible to dual-boot 98 on it alongside NT4/2K, I'd be in autistic nirvana. I'm still going to SLI it anyway.

Attached: 1545319576855.jpg (334x334, 34K)

There was no blending between the video outputs. The Voodoo straight-up took over the output whenever it was active. 2D effects like a HUD in games were accomplished with textures. It only passed through the 2D signal when 3D accel was inactive.
One side effect of this is that if the 3D crashed for whatever reason you could pull the monitor cable and plug it back into the 2D card in order to see your desktop again. Normally when the 3D crashes your game would still be running down on the task bar and have input focus even though you can't see it running on the 2D output, but from there you could at least tab out of it and task kill it.

Thanks for the explanation. I assumed layering 2 outputs because that's a very retro thing to do.

That's what Sega's 32X did but I assume potential incompatibility issues between all the different makes and models of hardware and software made it unviable on a platform like PCs.

I've watched people scream and tear their hair out over porn games not getting released on Steam instead of just finding some free porn and jacking off. Waiting for a magazine would seem pretty reasonable.

>you make this was hard lmao
You can't even run two different GPUs today.
Old mobos allowed cards to freely switch what was running regardless of pci/agp. This was done in real time. So for glide you can run two voodoo 2s or you could use two voodoo 2s and a voodoo 3 to switch around or a completely different card for non glide games.

youtube.com/watch?v=slTHHXWNG4Y

realplayer and quicktime were the fucking worst.

we never needed more than this

fuck this world

ive got pc mags from the mid 2000's

its fun going back in time and looking at the prices / latest tech

wat, yeah you can, asymmetric GPU setups are possible on pretty much any PCI/PCIe machine, there's just no special snowflake passthrough shit anymore because that was basically just a hack so 3dfx didn't have to glue 2D cores to their cards, it wasn't anywhere near as advanced as you seem to think it is. the V1/V2 basically just passively forwarded the primary GPU output until the system until a piece of glide software was run after which it would just take over the output itself.

I raise you a box of modems, 2 still sealed

fapped many times to that slut and her friend Halee back in the early-mid 00s. Good times.

I love me some Voodoo 2 SLI

Attached: file.png (1000x750, 1.35M)

Do they actually? Check sold listings, not listings that are active. Even the best VLB graphics cards and I/O controllers go for mere couple dozen bucks max in reality.

>love me
Stop lying to yourself

Yep, one Voodoo 2 card output the odd lines and other card output the even lines.

exactly at least they actually thought about what they were doing and built systems that weren't absolute fat fuck schizos by design

>da retro themes at?

I remember being like 14 and my mate made some Windows desktop theme and uploaded screencaps to some site somewhere. But he had netscape open at thehun.net in the screencaps and his parents saw them. Fun times.
