I loved PA and Cyanogenmod but even though I tinker I still use Oxygen OS beta as my daily driver, essentially a stock OP ROM but the beta branch. Whilst the functionality of root with Magisk, etc., are nice I don't feel the need to use a custom ROM. Say that, if I had some bloated shit OS on another phone if go with LOS.

No sadly but I'm keeping my eyes open. Running the one by some XDA dev with an anime photo for his avatar. Pick a stable one because each update requires a full wipe for some retarded reason (although mine is pretty stable so I don't see that happening in my case). I tried Bootleggers ROM originally but it came with Google Keyboard installed by default, so I ditched it for Lineage.

i experimented with cyanogen mod with a spare samsung galaxy S4 i had and when i leant it to a roomate all the speaker and mic levels were far quieter i had to tweak in an obscure config file and not having the google package and appstore broke everything... that was a few years back and really wondering how its all going these days ...

You can get google services and the play store on LineageOS if you want. Or use microg to replace google services and use F-Droid as an app store.
