-c (for codec
-c:x replace x with type video, audio
-c:a for audio
-c:v for video
-c:s for subs
same applies for bitrate
-b for bitrate
-b:a for audio
-b:v for video

ffmpeg -i filename -c:v libx264 -c:a mp3 output

Make a script that automatically runs if you're too stupid to remember what to do, it'll run the same shit over & over. GUI doesn't do that. you have to select settings every time.

scripting is literally quicker and more convenient than a GUI for any task of any complexity, or a task that you want to automate so that you can perform over and over again. video encoding is both of these things.

...unless you want to do anything more than a conversion for someone who doesn't use it constantly. Using portions for example is in no way straight forward, and there is multiple ways to do it. I do it enough that I know it now, but thinking people should just know how ss and t work isn't really reasonable, let alone remembering every name for every codec, which aren't even standardized is moronic.

This is why things like avidemux exist. I don't use it because it's easier for me to use the options I want that I don't even think are exposed as such in the program, but for someone who isn't constantly using it, it should be obvious which is easier if you aren't on the spectrum.

unless you have attention span of a dead fish remembering those parameters isn't difficult. i had no experience using that thing and i pretty much mastered it in 30 minutes. worst case scenario look them up on stackoverflow and create a .bat script so you can drag 'n drop files on it.

GUI exists because accessibility and learning a fuck ton of commands (some which you may never use) has a rather lengthy learning curve.
Commands, scripts, and macros come into play when you know what you're doing and do it often.
Most productive shit today is made easier through GUI, and calling people retarded for preferring it is only pushing them away from moving into it.
