Media Player

I did a clean format-reinstall of Windows 10. I have not followed the media player shitposting war since MPC-HC+madVR was the hot shit.
What's good now? MPC-HC is dead but there's a fork that updates the LAV filters once in a while, then there's the other MPC (BE?). Do I still need madVR for hardware options if I go with the MPC route?
Then there's MPV, is it really good or is it shilled here only because muh command line and linux versions?

MPC-HC with MadVR still hot shit but with the new MPV.NET on windows its kinds of better

MPV basically allows you to have all the "other stuff" that used to have to come with MPC-HC/BE etc... (ie madVR+LAVFilters+AssFilterMod etc) built in.

It is actually really good. You can either use it in its native form with the minimal UI (with a .conf file for setting things up. There are lots to be copy and pasted for max image quality etc), but there are also more conventional MPC-HC / VLC like players with a UI, yet have MPV as their engine so all the benefits are right there.

SMPlayer for instance is a good example - you just make one dropdown change in options and use mpv!

Never believe mpv.net posters.

Besides SMPlayer, Media Player Classic Qute Theater (MPC-QT) is a good idea, as is the really full featured Kawaii Player (it even has media server shit in it if you want or torrent streaming etc)

MPC-HC does not need more updates
if you need newer filters just download them separately
my setup is simply MPC-HC + madVR + XySubFilter

>tfw2lazy
I just get SVP, ready made settings for madVR and comes with a Youtube-DL plugin and other stuff.

mpv is the best option. Just associate the media files correctly, and edit the config once and you're good to go.

>MPC-HC is dead

funny, it still works on my machine. you must be retarded.

Updated madVR setup for MPCHC and MPCBE.
Never trust MPV autists

smplayer with mpv is the answer

>Then there's MPV, is it really good or is it shilled here only because muh command line and linux versions?
It's good.

Slap profile=gpu-hq in your mpv.conf. Bam, done, that's really all you need to do if you're lazy. If your PC is good enough (referring primarily to the scaling options, everything else is fine and you should use them regardless), copy the configuration under "General settings" from the Arch wiki. The keybindings are easy and take all of 2 minutes to learn, but if you want, there are some frontends with nicer graphical interfaces than the default one MPV uses. Naturally, if you're very autistic, there are an endless number of options you can configure if you really want, or you can just copy some nerd's .conf from the mpv threads.

Does MPV have good tone mapping for HDR video?

why are linux config file autists so mad about mpv.net? looks solid to me.

It lacks features that regular mpv has still and the .net shills keep posting how its better than regular mpv. So obviously .net shills will get called out.

and what good are lots of features when you have to spend an hour in a config file every time you want to change or use said features?

it's the video player equivalent of the linux shell inside of windows thing

>when you have to spend an hour in a config file every time you want to change or use said features?
Nice projection. Some people aren't tech illiterate.

There are options for it, so I'd guess. Never fucked with that myself.
Less features and more buggy for added features that are pointless.

I want to be able to write a script that strings together subclips of videos and plays them in a loop or side by side at times without reloading when the clips change video source. Is this doable?

mpv.net makes it even more clear how superior MPC-HC is, and always will be

What anime is that at the bottom (and I guess the second from the top)?

>No bug fixes
lmao

when is it going to compare to 2015 madvr?

whats madvr have to do with a gui for mpv?

Yes.

mpv is out of question since it can’t output native HDR.
MPC-HC + madVR is the only solution to play HDR properly.

How do you even know he has an HDR capable display faggot?

>MPC-HC is dead
it's finished software, it doesn't need to be in development for eternity

MPC-HC + madVR + emby
this is current highest quality ultimate solution!

and don’t forget to install BT.2020 icc profile

>Random ass profile for a specific reference monitor
That's not how colour profiles work, don't just use that one.

>technology never progresses
mpv with vulkan and FSRCNNX gives me the best performance and quality.

artoriuz.github.io/mpv_upscaling.html

Honest question here. In this thread we had a number of good answers and ALL suggestions here are factually better than VLC. Then why is VLC so damn popular?

It just werks. MPC needs codec packs, mpv doesn't have an installer, and I'm sure the others have small issues like that as well. People don't care about autistic quality, they just want to install something and play media.

>mpv doesn't have an installer

github.com/rossy/mpv-install/blob/master/README.md

>.bat
And you expect people to think that that's as good as an .exe that installs?

Better use dx11 then vulkan since its buggy piece of shit and u still cannot screenshot in vulkan

Yes you can.

Since when? like 4 builds ago u still couldn't screenshot on vulkan

I know this is bait but last time I used madvr I installed it with a .bat

werks on my machine

>specific reference monitor
what kind of bull shit is this?
modern TV’s can be set for almost any color space
bt.2020 , adobe rgb , dci , sRGB/BT.709 etc...

No idea, it's been a while.
It's not bait. I don't think it's that hard to believe that normies that use VLC wouldn't want to install something with a seperate .bat instead of just having an executable do all the work.

MPC doesn’t need codec packs

You have no idea what an icc profile is.

who even needs a standalone media player program in the year 2018

I understand your point about it not being retard friendly. But you said it didn't have an installer. I'm just showing you it does.

Guess I'm wrong then. It does hold a reputation of needing extra shit though.

People who want a better bitrate than a goddamn stream in a web browser.

shinchiros build comes with an installer literally called 'installer'. I think normies would understand.

I think you overestimate normies, besides, they'd have to find that correct download.

Sorry, why do we not like VLC here?

Good thing mpv.net has an actual installer for normies.

Attached: mpvnet.png (256x256, 7K)

But that installs a buggy and less featurful piece of shit.

Be mpv.net
>have more features and an installer
Meanwhile vanilla mpv be like.
>677 issues

The problem is that nobody contributes to that piece of shit, so the bugs aren't logged. They're definitely there though, as are the missing features.

cope harder

Enjoy your buggy piece of shit I guess.
