Alienware 13r3
i7 6700hq
GTX 1060 6gb mobile
16GB RAM
500GB SSD

Was being thrown out because the battery was bad. Bought a new battery and graphic amp for ~$200. Also had a 1080ti sitting in a drawer waiting for something that could run it.

Not bad for $200...

Acer predators are pretty cheap and perform well, year ago getting a vr ready under 1k was the only option, not sure about this year, but no problems so far

Decided to hold off on upgrading to the 9700K or the RTX 2080.

Though the 9700K doesn't seem like an upgrade, I might pick up a 9900K on ebay if I see one cheap enough. I'll wait until the RTX "Super" series comes out to assess doing a GPU upgrade.

wtf I thought that heat thing was just a meme

can I sue dell?

all you can do is use liquid metal on it

Asus gl702zc

I don't know shit about specs, is this good? I want to play medium quality with decent fps at least

that's $1006.29

Nice larping. Most your G5.

>atrocious design
>same build quality as $200 netbooks, except you pay $1000
>guaranteed thermal issues unless you buy some gargantuan $3000 model
Why do gamer laptops exist?

Triton 500 is really good but terrible light bleed

1050ti is still okay for gaming, as long as you do not expect anything much out of it. It used to be a standard for mid tier gaming but it is on its' way out. I think 1660 ti is taking its' place.

I see 898 euro shekels as it's price and this one for like 20 more in the same website
pccomponentes.com/asus-tuf-gaming-fx504gm-en480-intel-core-i7-8750h8gb128gb-ssd-1tbgtx-1060156-reacondicionado

It has less ram and a smaller SSD but if you are gaming then it will perform much better, if you need more ram then you can get a cheap stick later on but you can't replace the GPU.

it's refurbished tho, does that matter?
and it's a bit more expensive, 898 eurobucks is way more than i had planned but i would buy it if it was really worth it

what about this one?, is it decent enough?
pccomponentes.com/medion-erazer-p6705-intel-core-i5-8300h-8gb-1tb-256gb-ssd-gtx1050ti-156?utm_campaign=afiliados&utm_source=effi-1395050051

i just want to play on medium settings after all

probably, the safest way is to look on youtube for videos of the games that you want to play using that GPU, just don't forget to look for "1050 ti laptop" since the laptop version of the GPU is weaker than the desktop version.

something like that

pccomponentes.com/lenovo-ideapad-330-intel-core-i7-8750h-8gb-1tb-gtx-1050-156

I got the version with the 16GB optane drive and just swapped it out with a 256gb nvme.
I’d recommend downloading throttlestop to undervolt the cpu and afterburner for the gpu. You can also get it to run at turbo boost on all cores for long periods and adjust the frequencies.

I can run all 12 threads at 3.6ghz for long periods with no throttling. I can get it to 3.9 if I use my laptop cooling pad.

Am I about to make a bad decision buying the Razer Blade 15?

>RTX 2070 Max Q

Would have bought it if had the money to waste.
Probably the best gaymen laptop if you have the bux. Also surprisingly for a rayzor product, it doesn't look like gaymen trash and has a nice aluminum finish.

Boys I need a laptop that can actually compute. Considering a max spec Xeon p72 but gayming laptops are much better bang for the buck. Might get a blade 17 2080 64Gb. wat do. Maybe I should wait until second gen RTX tho.

I have a G5 as well and don't have this problem. It runs quite cool, especially the GPU.

They supposedly have bad coil whine but if you're old enough you're not hearing it any more.

This looks like the y40. It lasted me around 5 years, and now I own the y740. "Gamer" laptops offer nice specs, don't be jelly.

Attached: desktop.png (1920x1080, 1.33M)

Unless you have a lot of money, and you really need to "play on the go", don't buy a gaming laptop.

16gb (instead of 8) or a bigger ssd? which is better and which one will be more necessary in the future?

>Triton 500 is really good but terrible light bleed
You have one? How bad is it?
Was looking to get one, just wish it had an option of coming with two 2TB SSDs.

This doesn't make sense anymore.
For the price of these laptops now it's actually cheaper to buy one instead of building your gaming rig at home, and then also buying a thin and light to travel with.

Does linux run well on the 20X0 equipped laptops?
Want to get one, but need to at least be able to dual boot into a linux distro, or straight up install it over windows.

i'm looking for a 15 inch under $1000.

anything worth it out there?

Check newegg. I think the 1070 equipped laptops are close to that price range now.

I wish I could find a Ryzen machine that supports Windows 7.

i have seen this one on sale for less than $1000
amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-R7-3750H-GeForce-TUF505DU-EB74/dp/B07QQB6DC1/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=1660 ti laptop&qid=1560725633&s=gateway&sr=8-3

SSD prices are still crashing so i would get more ram because laptop ram is more expensive where i live.

That's what I'm doing on the rtx 2080, I'm the user who posted the y740 post.

Dual booting? Notice a difference in performance between the two versions of the drivers?
Steam works well in Ubuntu? I've not gamed on Linux outside of using emulators.
Really interested in your experience, I'm this close to pulling the trigger on a laptop.

That's more than I paid for a laptop with a 1070 18 months ago.

Yeah but don't go thin, the heat still needs to be dealt with regardless. Also learned that you can't really game without it being plugged in. I got benchmarks about a third of what I normally get due to throttling. That said I bought mine during the crypto craze and it only cost a couple hundred more than the gpu alone

Yeah, need to be plugged in for gaming. One thing I do like about some of them, like the Triton 500, is you can turn the GPU off in the Bios, and use the iGPU instead, which allows hours of use on just the battery, making for a great dual purpose machine.

ALL OF YOU ARE SHITHEAD MANCHILDREN GROW TF UP NIGGER, buy a t440p and actually use your money on something smart.

Seriously go back to the /v/irgins overr there

Yikes the state of summerfags
Also ITODDLERS BTF EVEN BY THIS SHIT

>buy a t440p
Old shit, heavy and slow compared to new sleek, powerful machines with better IO and 2.5GB/s RJ45 ports. Faster IO is important, because the new machines use NVMe SSDs in Raid0.
>actually use your money on something smart.
Meh, a gaming laptop is like a week's worth of pay, and I can write it off as a work expense at the end of the year, lowering my AGI.
You can go back to watching Boku no Pico and playing with your dragon dildos now.

Save up your money user. Why would you need such an expensive machine? A shitty refurbished thinkpad will last 10 years, and you can edit text files and browse the web on them with no issues.

Alienware 15r4
I7-8750H, 16G ddr4, 128G ssd, 1TB hdd, 512G nvme, gtx1060 6G.
I'll buy the graphics amp and throw a gtx20-something next year. Still have 1 more m2 slot. Love how many m2's I can fit in this bish.

$1300. bretty gud laptop, remains cool under full load (80-90C) and haven't seen any thermal throttling in games, only synthetic benchmarks

Blease resbond

Yes dual-boot. You have to update drivers or else the brightness button won't work, no other problem I've encountered though. I don't run Steam on Linux, since it's dual boot. It works fine on Windows though, and I haven't seen any decrease in performance on my initial testing. I haven't really used Windows in years, but for some reason I have it just in case. I wrote a small guide that might come up on Google, dual-booting on the y740, you might need to search a little for it. The gestalt is that you will need to switch from RAID to AHCI on storage or else your bootloader won't be exposed, requiring you to need a new EFI partition, which isn't fun to work with GRUB.

>The gestalt is that you will need to switch from RAID to AHCI on storage or else your bootloader won't be exposed, requiring you to need a new EFI partition, which isn't fun to work with GRUB.
What is the disk setup on the y740? All of the laptops I'm looking at are Raid0, so I assume you had to install each OS on a different drive?
Think I'll bite the bullet and just straight up install Linux. Don't need Windows for anything, and none of my drives are formated NTFS, so I wouldn't be able to access anything with it anyway.

Theres several options for disk storage, raid0 included. I resized my HD(500gb of 1tb) for the new partition, I've got the SSD for Windows and the bootloader. I might have done things incorrectly, but things are working.

Yeah, but you said you disabled Raid... I don't need windows, and when there is a time I do need it for something, I just spin up a VM.

Gotcha. Well I was initially set up for RAID, but again, GRUB wasnt cooperating with me so I switched to AHCI.

I have the intel 8750 but it has the 1060 graphics card.
Your option would have the 1050.

Both are comparable. Honestly I like the Intel processor I have with the graphics, BUT asus has a VERY good cooling system in its lappy. So I'm not sure how the heat dispensation would be on the Medion

The Asus I know is a good brand, I just don't have experience with the AMD mobile processor

Whats the entry level used gaming laptop to buy

Whats this in zionist warmonger usd

about 940 USD

Anything with a 1050/1050Ti I guess

A used lap would be something with a 1060

I hear you. Is 2070 really that shitty?

Would 2080 be any better?

The full one is alright I guess. It's the max-q being more or less the same performance of the old laptop 1070.

Want a Predator 21 X to be honest. What's the next best thing? G703GX any good?

I never really found it bothersome, if I am going to game I sure as hell won't do it with a touchpad so will need to find somewhere to set myself up. It's not like I'm going to game in the middle of a parc

Isn't it possible to change the max-q settings with msi afterburner?

I hate touchpads in general. Either clit or mouse. But yeah, I travel a lot, and having a dual purpose laptop that can last hours with the GPU off and running on the iGPU when in the office or on site, and then turning it back on at the hotel playing a game is perfect.

Yeah, they just have a thermal throttle built in. From what I've seen, the 2080 max-q is similar to a 2070 or 1080, so it's not that much of a downgrade considering the amount of performance in such a small package.

Do you live in 2005, user?

Do the 1660s perform well?
All the early 2060 reviews make them out to be the best bang for the buck as far as performance improvement. If I were on a budget I'd be looking for those.

almost bought one @ EOFY sale

1050ti just enough for casual gamuring and not red and childish aesthetic. don't even like laptops but I will fall into the "travel for work" segment soon.

>>alienware
I wanted the graphics amp that had a dedicated port straight to the mobo. None of this bus sharing BS that is thunderbolt. Only alienware offered that.

is 220W adapter enough for i5 8400 + 1660ti?

>Too dumb to realise ThinkPad is made by Lenovo

what are your thoughts on Lenovo Legion Y540?

I usually see 180W adapters paired with i7-9750H + 1660 Ti so probably.
