My T60 motherboard burnt so is it worth upgrading it to a T601? what are the risks?

I keep reading people saying that you can fit a secondary 2242 m.2 SSD in the t450s, which would be sweet; but why do they keep it at 8-16-32gb?
Can't you use a bigger size for programs/storage, or even a separate os? Is it just for cache?

Well I ordered the t480s, $973 after tax

Anyone used an SD card in lieu of an external hard drive? Can pick up one of the high capacity Samsung EVOs for pretty cheap now. Wondering if it'd be good for fairly permanent storage

They don't have a great read/write cycle lifespan. Maybe alright for document storage or media storage, but if you're constantly modifying things or changing the data somehow, you run a big risk of data loss.

is the coil whine in the t450s THAT bad?

I'd store things like movies/shows/visual novels

Got an extremely cheap thinkpad x1 carbon 2nd gen
I know it's got a shitty design but any chance I can replace the trackpad to the two button one?

Soft dome, have that on my x201.
Like it.

X220 cutest macboom

I've only tried the soft dome, how do I find the other types I had trouble finding them on eBay
Why not just buy one on Amazon and return it if it doesn't work
SD cards are awful I'd say they're last resort as a storage medium, I only use them if there's no other option

macbook*

has anyone done the x330 mod?
is it DIY or would i need to send my x230 to chyna?
where to buy it? somewhere in taobao? i can't read chink
is it worth it?

Attached: IMG_4728.jpg (1900x1425, 714K)

i diyed it myself and the soldering part is really easy, the tough part is fitting the 13.3 screen in the lid. its more difficult than it seems, and it result in a less rugged laptop at the end.

also, yes buy on taobao trough a proxy, i used superbuy, for me its 100% worth it.
read about the various fhd boards, screens and bezel/lid mods needed on thinkpadforum before buying anything.

Hnnng I need to purchase a ThinkPad

It's a fucking trap, I have 6 now and only ever use one

Which 4:3 Thinkpad is the best model you can get your hands on nowadays that's readily available? T61?

My old desktop PC died and my notebook is slowly suffering so I need at least two replacements now.

Is the T450s the best model you can get if your budget is $500 even if it only goes for about $300? I would prefer a bigger screen but it seems like the 15 inch models are harder to find with IPS screens, unless I'm looking at the wrong models.

Is the battery on the x220 meant to be terrible?

what is the cheapest thinkpad I could get my hands on ? I want to learn how to dismantle it and rebuild it again before getting an actual one

>I want to learn how to dismantle it and rebuild it again before getting an actual one
Why?

If you follow the hardware manual the process is primarily tedious screw-counting.

What nu-Thinkpad should I upgrade to from my T420

T440p

That's a downgrade

I can guarantee it is not

I want to get a thinkpad but I don't know every single one and their pros and cons. I just want something with okay battery life and that I'm able to upgrade the RAM and storage.

just buy a brand new one straight from lenovo, bruh

>I just want something with okay battery life and that I'm able to upgrade the RAM and storage
That's 95% of all ThinkPads

x230

Not the ok battery part

just get a T470p i7, 16gb

I'm looking to purchase an X250; what are some sites for good deals, and how do I know what a good price is for a ThinkPad?

Picked this up in 2017 for $800, not picture is a 512gb ssd a 1tb sshd and a quadro k5100.
I've been wanting to install some linux distro on it cause I have a 64gb msata drive laying around. and this support booting to it.

Attached: Capture.png (763x540, 27K)

It's an upgrade and the build quality is surprisingly just as good with one caveat, it does not support expresscard external gpus

thats why I got the one with the nvidia gpu, which is a fucking mess to configure with the proprietary drivers in GNU/Linux.

Is it possible to replace the wifi card in the t420 with one that doesn't require non-free firmware? If not, what firmware are you using? Preferably available in buster.

who's getting one?

Attached: shinobi.jpg (2048x1365, 590K)

I recently purchased an x230 for a good price the other day and I'm planning on installing some linux distro on it since it doesn't have an OS. I've got pretty good experience with Linux via Ubuntu and Mint, so I'm wondering, would I be able to handle installing Arch on the x230? I know the wiki should make it easy to do but I'm not entirely sure since Arch is supposedly the big boys distro. Any Arch problems on the x230?

dafuq is that layout

looks pretty cool, I don't like the keycaps though
I'm sure that isn't a problem though

how is the screen on a T440? is the viewing angle shit, or is it going to be easy to be heavily mobile and read the screen

It depends on what screen it has. The FHD IPS one is quite good but the lower res TN panels are not.

What thinkpad would be cool for learning to code and running autocad?

P1/P52

Soft rim (job)

I want to max out the ram on my X220, and my T520 but I got that vibe from them that its not on the up and up. is there a prefered seller for used cheap RAM?

>T520
What is the specs and how its feeling man, my is coming in Wednesday

real shit? I love this motherfucker. it's the best laptop I've ever owned.

i5 2.5ghz
8gb RAM
I put in the ultrabay caddy for an extra HDD
speakers are crappy, but I wasnt expecting a $500k custom designed home listening experience. I need to replace the thermal paste and clean it again.

TPFancontrol is a must. I thought I didnt have bluetooth on mine, even with the little symbol on the info panel, since it never showed up in windows. or oddly enough in linux. then when I installed TPF I could flip the light on, and turn BT on and off.

the "o" key is fucky sometimes too, but for the $140 I paid for it in 2017, I'm more than happy with it.

Do the ThinkPad sd card readers even support sdxc?

Computers noob here
Are there any instances where ssd + hdd is slower than just hdd?
For example if you have your os and all your programs on your ssd, but youre listening to music files that are on the hdd, the fact that the computer has to split processing power between two drives simultaneously instead of simply just one results in it being slower than if it was just hdd or something

Nah

Thx

Something else im wondering tho, would having a dual drive as opposed to single mean that i should upgrade any other specs too, to manage the extra load?
Right now im looking at getting a thinkpad e495
Ryzen 5 3500u
8gb dual channel ddr4
1tb hdd, 256gb ssd m.2

>thinkpad e--
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
