What do you mean? As far as I know, Gab isn't free software. You can't host your own Gab.

Correct, but they're apparently working to rebuild gab from the ground up to be open source and to work in a similar fashion to that of mastadon.

They are in the process of dropping all the proprietary shitware they used to develop (and in which they burnt through millions of investor money) to fork Pleroma (or was it Mastodon?)
They haven't said anything about keeping the ability to federate with other instances, but I doubt they will since that could expose their users to disapproved thought and combinations of 1's and 0's they dislike (and wrongly believe to be illegal) like cartoon depictions of female children commonly known as loli
