It ruined the web, and now it's starting to ruin the desktop. Shitty web devs want to write everything in JS because that's the only language they know, and they pull megabytes of libraries in to use as a crutch (may I remind everyone that the one-liner "is-odd" library has millions of downloads?). The end result is the web having tons of this shitty, slow JavaScript code, and now that Electron is a thing, people think it's perfectly fine to use JavaScript to develop a desktop application (which launches a new instance of an entire web browser just for your shitty chat app that can be 1000% faster were it just made in C++ with Qt or GTK).

I think user asked why people like JS, not why people are butt hurt about JS.

Electron is a nice compromise between ease-of-use and performance because these days, no one wants to use fucking C++.

And what VSCode has showed us is that performance and memory use is an issue on the programmers end.
When you have something as accessible as JS, you will get a lot of trash but once in a while there will be that gem that wouldn't have existed otherwise.
It's the same story in gamedev with Unity and asset flips flooding the store.

Yes. They hire unqualified "programmers" that went to a koding boot camp for a summer. All in the name of "diversity". All of the actual good programmers that know their shit and don't sperg out when they see a pointer in C++ are white men.

I enjoyed writing desktop applications in C#, didn't with Java. I like Python, but only for quick and dirty scripts
