Which Laptop to buy

Hey guys!

Which one should i buy?

Looking for:
- music production
- programming
- experimentation with Linux
- good SSD
- tiny tiny bit of gaming

These are my final five choices. Don't want to spend on a macbook pro. cause Im not a drone.

what's wrong with that? It's an investment

You can get a perfectly good laptop for

it's not an investment lol

are u serious?!

"A laptop is not only hefty investment, it's also a visual extension of your personality. You may carry it around with you all day, or even all over the country." - Steve Jobs

>product that immediately loses value is an investment
retard

Yes. Second-hand.

What is your budget?

Ofcourse Steve will tell you to buy a new laptop.

Deselect the RAM and SSDs and buy them separately. It's much cheaper, and no more difficult than putting batteries in a remote control.

The X and T series Thinkpads have ridiculously good processors and are very customizable. But if screens are important to you, don't go there.

Hmm, I don't know the precise vocabulary in English, but you're purchasing a tool that will (ideally) improve your productivity by greater margin than the cost you spent to acquire it.
So it's not "investing" in the "stock market" sense, it's more of "tooling up".

Take a look on ebay and see if you can find a model from this year. Hundreds of dollars are knocked off the price instantly, just by having been owned.

except some of the machines in OP's selection don't have modular RAM

The X1 Carbon is so sexy omg

I have been searching for a laptop that can play games while on night shift so I've got my eyes on the lenovo y530, yay or nay? Budget is around 900/1k eurocoins

X1 - you don't need a dedicated GPU for music or for programming outside of certain things which is serviced best by a desktop instead.

You could wait for the new editions of the XPS 15 too with better gPU for more gaymen
But what games?

I would say $1750

no true m8, many metal cases are non-user serviceable, mostly because they soldered in the ram and M2s. besides, they tend to bundle the higher end CPu/GPU options with the bigger hard drives anyway. Normies just want a big hard drive so they will click that option.

what should i buy then?

>lenovo y530
why not go for a thinkpad?

when does that version come out?

dont have the $$ m8?

Not that user but thinkpads aren't for games since they lack decent GPUS, a 1050 is not a decent GPU

I think this month or end of July, depends on where you live. It's going to be US first then eu

what games and what performance are you looking for. A 2060 would be gould enough for 60fps and mid settings or high on some

look at laptops from like 2017 new in box from the factory. they will be harder to find, but the differences will be very minimal. Refurbished is an option, but over all, laptop cases will break before the actual computer parts get old enough to justify replacement. and when things do brake, the whole thing gets fucked.

they are consumer goods m8. your desktop should be where your good parts live for your taks that need them. laptops are for things you actually need to do in the field or whatever. I do alot of CAD work and my laptop needs to be atleast mostly good enough for that kind of work, but jobsites will murder your laptop so quick my company has finally agreed to fund my home desktop and just send me cheapo $400 refurbished HPs.

Why the Dell Xps 13 is not available anymore?

What country?

I don't have high demands, i'd mostly be playing shit in the range of xcom 2 or Civ 6. Maybe the odd big game here and there every once in a while. I'm not really looking for exceptional performance. I was halfway through buying the Acer nitro 5 but then I saw the build quality and the thermal solution which is subpar at best

notebookcheck.net
anything a 1050, 1060 or a 2060 will ve fine.
1050 might struggle a bit getting anything about low on games like Xcom2 that aren't optimized
Said website has a list of computers and their thermals/build quiality
also two things: get a usb hub and a cooling pad. Usb hub is so you don't break the usb ports on the mobo and a cooling pad is to keep it cool

MacBook Air.

Will check out the link and inform myself, also aren't those cooling pads lous as hell? I'm preoccupied with the sound since I work in a hotel at night.

>Intel
I guess if you're not doing any online banking or using any sensitive information like email password, etc, it's fine.

No, not really. I've used a Targus one and never had issues with it at work

$100 chromebook, hack it to install linux

Go for the Dell XPS

The Dell xps has only an oled screen for the 15" version tho.

What about the Huwai matebook 13 ? It has a 4k screen.

>4k screen
Useless shit and they still suck on windows

and this is why companies get away with selling laptops at these prices.

A dictionary, so you can find out what a word means before you use it.

What kind of laptop do you use for cad?

buy second hand Lenovo Thinkpad P50/P51/P52

Won't be very portable, but it will be perfect workstation

All shit.

1) get t series thinkpad
2) buy it used
3) install gentoo on it

The new ones actually have decent screens available.

P50 series.

these fucking $1000 shittops with windows are probably only fast as my $350 acer with a SSD and linux knowing how badly they're made
