Nice!

Would DragonflyBSD be a good choice for a NAS/fileserver?

Yes, if you can/want to utilize the HAMMER filesystem.

Are there any advantages to using HAMMER instead of ext4?

Plenty. HAMMER2's competitor is ZFS, not ext4.

The reason dragonfly exists is because of the improved filesystem. That's at its very core. You should read up on it, maybe give it a go if you'd like.

For those of you that have used, DragonFly BSD:
1) How good is it for desktop use?
2) How good is HAMMER2?

trim support?

Yes, for one week now

is dragon fly the only useable micro kernel

Yep

Minix was usable, and so is Inferno. Both Inferno and Dragonfly are hybrid though

ZFS uses a ton of RAM, is hammer advantageous here.

What would tempt one to move to DFBSD for the hammer file system, i mean, what features does it have? Anything you would consider a killer app.

I'm using it, but not on a desktop. As a server, it's as good as it gets. But you have to be prepared to leave your Linux comfort zone a little

micro kernel is superior. theres no reason drivers should be in a kernel. just look at how bloated linux is getting. eventually linux will implode because it wont fit into ram anymore and once that happens it will be unusable.

>still no support for Intel 8250 or what's it called
Yeah, maybe in another couple of years.

What's the status on Ravenports?

how stupid would it be to try running MC-server with this?
I'm thinking of second gen i5 + 8gb DDR3 (1 for os, 4 for MC and rest for ramdisk that holds the world.)
