I hate 16:9 so fucking much. Why are laptop sellers they forcing this shit upon us, even on business laptops?

At least it’s not as bad as the number pad they force on every laptop

The wide monitors aren't wide, they are fucking SHORT but the sheeple are stupid enough to eat that.

They are made from one long roll of fixed width and the shorter the cuts are the more of them you you get and the less likely they are to have detects.

The ultrawide monitors are just the shreds of 4k tvs that had a defective segment cut out.

I have no idea how panels are made, but this sounds super weird to me.

That’s retarded. What about when 4K TVs didn’t exist?

my palmtop has 16:10 aspect ratio

They were shorter cuts of 2k panels.

I thought this was common knowledge.

wouldnt that be 8:5

explain why you hate it dumbass....

also surfaces, macbooks, and matebooks come with 8:5 or 3:2 aspect ratios

>5:4
>4:3
>16:10
>16:9
>21:9
This shit makes no fucking sense. There's not a single consistent reference. Can we PLEASE adopt the cinematic system for aspect ratios? 1.25:1, 1.33:1, 1.6:1, 1.77:1, 2.33:1, it's so much better, you can actually visualize the difference.

Yes but it's called 16:10 because it's easier to understand that it's just a bit taller than 16:9

yes, as it can also be called as 1920:1200 but 16:10 seems to be widespread for reasons this user explained I guess

I don't want a wide or tall screen.

they gotta do something with all that extra space. Plus, it makes sense to have on a large laptop. When you get as big as these things are, it's essentially a desktop replacement and, as such, it should have a number pad.

Pic related my 11" notebook and my "desktop replacement" ProBook

>lob off top half and sell as bespoke product
It's like cpus really

the worst era of laptops

i miss 16:10 soo much, Jow Forums.

Because it's better than the alternatives.

Nah, you got it all wrong.
>make screen
>test screen

>sell it to Asus because they don't give a fuck

My Surface book has a 3:2 aspect ratio and I like it.

Movies & TV shows.

>Why are laptop sellers they forcing this shit upon us
Because that's basically the only size factories are producing.

ITT: brainlets complaining about 16:9 when even 1440p 16:9 has more vertical pixels than HD 16:10
what are you, poor? just buy a higher resolution display.

A 24" 16:9 screen has less vertical space than a 24" 16:10 screen. Increasing resolution relative to screen size just makes the image smaller.

a 17.78:10 screen has more horizontal space than a 16:10 screen

And that's fine for side-scrolling SHMUPs but some of us need to read shit

honest question, do you hate 21:9 as well?

Jesus fuck i had a w540 or something that had the keypad and offset trackpad. God I hated that piece of shit. Our company is switching to dells and for some reason dell is getting it right in business class laptops/workstations. They're slim but sturdy like the old macbook pros.

Are there 21:9 laptops?

16:9 because of muh tv

I miss 4:3

This is the most retarded thing i've read all day.

Yes and they're more horrifying than you can imagine.

Divide yourself, retard.

Terrible. What about a 9:21 laptop?

>2560x1440 has more vertical pixels than 1280x800
Well no shit; 2560x1440 is pixel-doubled HD. The proper comparison would be pixel doubled 1280x800, which is 2560x1600

You should try 18:9 smartphone. This is where the hell ride starts.

Yeah, but you forgot getting some of the best GPUs money can buy for them to support 1080p+ monitors.

mmmm yes

16:10 "wins" when the base horizontal resolution is the same
16:9 "wins" when the base vertical resolution is the same
given that most display segments are based on horizontal resolution, 16:10 "wins" most of the time
i am actually surprised that no one has brought up muh golden ratio ITT yet
