Hot Gentoo Potato

When I emerge stuff, my CPU shoots up to 90C, and that's with a laptop cooler. If I move my laptop elsewhere, it automatically shuts down once it hits 100C. How do I limit the CPU temp to not pass 80C?

I have a ThinkPad T420, thinkpad_acpi is enabled in the kernel, thinkfan is installed. Actually, the problem started around that time.

isn't that model like 10 years old now? replace the thermal paste and make sure the fan still runs correctly.

Use less threads

post more chinks, I might masturbate if the pics get kinky enough

Undervolt, lower CPU clockspeed, change power plan, etc.

you're gonna start a housefire

anyone likes yellow fever but mutes porn because don't like the way they moan?

I changed the CPU and thermal paste a few weeks ago, the CPU is a bit younger than the laptop itself. The fan spins and stuff, but ever since I changed something in the kernel/got thinkfan and thinkpad_acpi, it just got worse.
I don't think I can do any of that on a corebooted t420 running gentoo

Why not?

have you ever seen one of these things without makeup on? literally horrifying insectoid

Well my gf doesn't wear makeup and she looks fine, and she's Chinese. What you're thinking about is probably Koreans -- most of them are born ugly, so surgery is very popular there. The only thing other Asians really suffer from is uneven eyelids -- sometimes my gf has one eyelid folding 3 times, and the other eyelid folding one or two times. It's pretty interesting, I don't mind it, but it drives her crazy. Fun fact, Jackie Chan had eyelid surgery so that his eyelids don't have uneven folds (or bad eyelid day)
My only option in BIOS is which drive to boot from. GNU/Linux doesn't have power plans, but Gentoo's kernel configurator lets me change the CPU behavior -- maybe I should try adjusting that for now.

So there's no tools like Throttlestop for Linux?

keep posting im almost cumming

>I changed the CPU and thermal paste a few weeks ago

you fucked it up. it shouldn't get that hot even if you max out every core for hours. re-apply the thermal paste, and do it right this time.

The T420 is an old laptop. Wouldn't surprise me if the fan was going bad.

>keep posting im almost cumming
Now post that terry's vid.

Interesting, I looked it up and I see there might be something like that. Although it'd be my last resort. I have to see if reverting any kernel changes will do anything.
Keep me replying then
that's definately not it. I've had others look at it, they said it's fine. Also it was staying under 80C until like two days ago.
>old

I opened the laptop not too long ago and the fan is fine. I've had older laptops that work fine too. It's not that.

I've got a T400 and it's an old piece of shit.
>It's not that.
You sure? Those temperatures aren't normal, the bearing might be fucked.

damn she cute

>she

that's because the t400 really is an old piece of shit. But when you buy old shit, make sure it's "Grade A" refurbished, as those laptops are so clean, that you can lick them. The bearing couldn't have gotten fucked all of a sudden, especially since the fan still works and everything, and was working fine just the other day. It's a kernel problem most likely.
Stop putting doubts in people, these are all girls, I guarantee you

Lol laptop.
Definitely sounds like a fan issue. Did you try booting up with the cpu fan out, or test it independently with a 4-pin connection-just hook it up, see if it spins-? Could also be the cpu_fan header, or cpu itself due to age.
Well, if you know you did some shady shit to kernel, there you go.

So did I, but I didn’t.

What!? The way they moan is one of the best parts.

the eyes are contacts m8ty
look up "big eye" contacts for azns
and then look at the same girl without them

Sauce?

i want to nakadashi liyu

Install sys-power/cpupower and then run cpupower frequency-set -g governor where "governor" is something like conservative or powersave. It's typical on ondemand by default.

Anyways emerge cooks it to 90C, GCC keeps it at 65C. I wonder why.
Bingo, I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't know how to explain it. However, I'm doing this in the kernel config.

When I updated my kernel, it turned on "performance" and "ondemand" governor, while "userspace" was already on by default. Right now I'm recompiling my kernel without those two. Might fix it. If not, then I'll try your solution.

Also I'm gonna start harassing the porn degenerates now

WTF kys retard

So when does the octopus die? I doubt even the acid in her stomach will kill it immediately.

Take a closer look at her mouth while she's chewing it. Notice how the tentacles are drooping the longer she chews? Or the blood on her left cheek? Basically she's already killing it by chewing it, the octupus is dying right there in the video.
welcome to Jow Forums

the tentacles move independent of the body for quite a while even if you cut them off

>the octupus is dying right there in the video
Rude as hell. She could have at least let the poor guy experience her cute stomach.
