So awesome for an early era speaker.

Small, cheap and 3-way never works out does it? Kiss: go with a fullranger and hope its half decent.
You'd think they'd be beamy with those huge domes but there's not enough highs there to notice. It rolls off pretty fast above 10-12kHz.
Overall tone is very sweet though and the bass is clean with the heavily stuffed port and cab.

It would be easy to swap a Bliesma T34 in as a tweeter replacement, but that seems like overkill.

I have a pair. The waveguide matching seems a little off, but I can't be bothered to try and get anything else.

>>when the entire outer casing is a monstrous heat sink
That's fairly common in this type of product. The distinction is how large the casing has to be.
I should throw my old AB amps and toroids for Class D and switch supplies. But my current gear still works, and I don't run them in very hard either.

FPBP, fuck off OP

Oddly enough, I really want that now.

Well, warranties, etc.

How do these sound?

animetard

I was expecting to do some work. Will be ordering the foam surround kit and some stands here soon. For the time being I'm standing them on a pair of shitty speakers and I've fashioned surrounds out of gaffer tape to do some listening to them. Current impressions? They sound phenomenal. The 8" woofer provides an ample amount of bass to enjoy, don't even touch the loudness switch on the amp. They'll sound much better when I fix the woofers

Why did you buy shit?
Onboard or a $100 soundcard is good enough for headphones unless you need extra power

i was using a handheld usb soundcard already and wanted something more "permanent" for my desk

i did a lot of research and schiit audio seemed really popular, and i bought the cheapest lineup from them because i dont buy into all that audiophile snakeoil bullshit

>because i dont buy into all that audiophile snakeoil bullshit
But you just did xD

a pair of JBL LSR305 MK1, theyre pretty fucking awesome

crack it open so we can see the crossover

4" 3way, WHYYYY xD

I like them. The dispersion from the linaeum tweeters is something special: you get very little bouncing off the floor/ceiling and horizontally its nigh perfect 180 degrees.
Kenwood doesn't seem to have a good name when it comes to speakers and the plastic front is kinda chintzy. But they're heavy (same weight as my "79 kef 101's) and peering inside I saw they have a real crossover on a separate board instead of just a cap soldered to the terminals as you often get with cheap rack stuff.

Attached: 1757620-electro-voice-patrician-iv-kd1.jpg (1100x825, 190K)

Those are outdoor speakers and have to "throw" a certain distance and be heard above wind and street noise, and still survive the elements. Essentially shitty PA speakers. Its probably biased in the human voice range and sounds like total garbage but if user got it for $3 its essentially like finding something workable in a dumpster.

Yeah, but 4" is so small that they can be crossed high without any problems. I would probably just opt for a bigger tweeter instead of going with a small midrange. It's not like the dispersion in the high-end matter much in a cheap outdoor speaker.

Been listening to these since I got them about a week ago, the sound quality is high af, I've had HD650's, DT990's and DT770's before and these are way better.

There has to be a cap for the tweeter even if its piezo, doesn't there?

Attached: MjkxODQ5MQ.jpg (940x705, 340K)

its just a direct wire lol - i feel like hooking it up to my 150 watt amp and blowing it apart

You could take out the "woofer" and put a birds nest in there and when the birds are inside, blast them with high frequency death metal or eagle sounds. Or put it next to a bird feeder where squirrels like to pillage and when the squirrels get right next to the feeder blast death metal.

Are you going to leave the dented tweet as is?

Attached: s-l1600.jpg (1600x1200, 150K)

I'm going to try taking the tweeter apart completely to push the grille back into place. While ugly, the dent on the diaphragm itself won't affect sound quality, so I'll leave it as is

I saw a complete ms dss 80 at the thrift for E12,50. It worked fine except for the passive radiator being stuck (it moved, but very not freely). This caused its suspension to flap about causing awful distortion.
I could not open the box because it has some crazy torx variant and my bitholder was too big for 4 screws in a very hard to reach spot.
Then I started pushing the passive radiator around, damaged the suspension and tossed everything in the trash.

This TDA1541A DAC chip is large, it gets hot, it is (was) expensive to build, it is 16 bit compatible and can be used with or without over sampling. Usually it is 4 or 8 times over sampled.

It was made by Philips after their first DAC ever - the TDA1540 - which was famous for being incompatible with the real CD format of 16 Bit word length by having only 14 bits. That didn't stop it (the 1540) from sounding very very good.

Philips produced the TDA1541A DAC for a couple of years, probably from 1985 (non-A version) and from 1989 - A version - slightly improved, and ceased it circa 1995. In these years the entire European and Japanese hifi industry (even Sony) produced millions of CD players with the TDA. At that time they were not considered that special, humanity was looking forward to having better and better chips every year.

Tadadada! Not true ! To some degree Burr Brown of Japan, later bought by Texas, succeeded in making very good chips. Probably the PCM63K being the closest. Crystal, NPC and Analog Devices are not bad too, and that's all. Oh I forgot - the MASH from National Matsushita

lol. Yeah and github was bought by 'Washington'.

what a waste of some good birds
if you're gonna do something as psychopathic as this why not just fuck them in their cloaca?

I don't really need it, but I use it at work. I can lend it to friends, or bring it back to my family.
I would sell it if I was desperate for money, which I'm not; Money-wise I'm thinking about early retirement, rather than survival.

Are there any really good multichannel sound cards that work on linux well?

Audigy2 ZS is the ultimate value card with perfect Linux compatibility. If you have more money, The Focusrite Scarlett line has good compatibility and good (third party) open source tools available. If money is literally no object, then RME is probably your best choice.

Who wants to buy these bad boys

Attached: 02.jpg (3024x4032, 560K)

Hmmm, I'd rather some Mission Argonauts.
For Klipsch, I want the Palladium bookshelves.

I have one of these Audigy2 ZS in a drawer, together with 2 xfi (one of them is the platinum audiophile one, which I got cheap on ebay!).
emu10k1 and emu10k2 have good support, including programming the dsp, but not much of an ecosystem around it. Windows support is unholy bad, but fortunately kxproject exists and they can be somewhat usable with it.
Based on my own experience, fuck all that shit. Topping DX3 all the way.

Forgot to mention, these cards do sound horrible with headphones, despite some of them advertising a "headphone amp".
