Why is Linux so fucking hard for non-programmers to use?

I feel dumb trying to learn Linux. I'm not a programmer, just a home user. Sure, you can do a lot in the GUI but Linux is way more dependent on command line than Windows or macOS. If you really want to learn Linux, learning the command line is a big part of that, otherwise you are just learning how to use a basic computer.

People who don't use Linux for programming/developing, what do you use it for?

>what do you use it for?
shitpostan, routing packets, watching videos, etc

the whole "linux can't into desktop" is bullshit, I've been using it for years without issue

I don't use Windows, not even in VMs anymore.

Honestly installing and using Ubuntu and getting programs from the software center don't require any terminal usage and it's more than enough for the casual users.

Just regular shitposting, music, porn, videos, web browsing, and word processing. I use the command line heavily still since I don't trust GUIs worth a shit.

Just think of it as being a different workflow.

>what do you use it for?
Everything.
It's really not very difficult.Anyone can master and survive on the most basic Linux commands. Can't remember shit? Man pages and history are always there, and many command line tools have a -h help option.Don't be scared.

If you learn what the 10 most used commands do and you have covered 90% of what a regular person does with Linux.

ls, cd, man, cat, nano, grep, htop, mount, rm, apt/dnf/pacman, etc.

Think about it, you only need to have a vague knowledge about what these comands do. Now think how many dialogs of options of windows have you memorized, how many settings windows, the whole control panel, the device manager to make partitions, the task manager, msconfig, etc.

you dont really need to be a programer to get along bash for home using, though knowing the basic structures helps to get you into the logic, try this book

still being a expert programer doesnt save you from the all endless shitty smal details you have to learn to "know linux"

once you get the grip and an stable setup, it stays comfy as fuck if you dot mess around, at least ubuntu, unlike W10 nuking itself with every small update

>Linux
GNU/Linux
>hard
Misperception. I bet Windows was also hard for you the first few months of use. If Windows were to be taken from you unconditionally and you were in need of an OS, you'd learn GNU/Linux quickly. The problem is most users who were conditioned to use Windows over the years have no motivation to learn a new operating system, especially if it demands doing some reading on the side (and learning a lot about computers in the process). That learning isn't hard by any means, and there's infinity of resources to help anyone with it, but people wanna be comfy.

Using the command line isn't programming.

And you can just google the shit you don't know how to do, you would've done the same in windows, but instead of clicking buttons to fix something you're typing letters in a little window and pressing enter.

Because people in FOSS DE development believe in "wrap" rather than "fix", and as a result, mountains of GUI software are built off of absurdly shaky foundations.

Use Windows or macOS. Linux is a geek shit made by geeks.

>GNU/Linux
Linux

You have to loot [Programmer's Long Socks]

Install Gentoo!

something like changing your DNS on windows is vastly easier than on linux. Right click the adapter go settings, fill in the DNS, boom you are done. On modern linux its no long simply edit resolv.conf its now a symlink to a symlink and you reboot the machine and some also program decides to change the file.

what is Network Manager

then don't use linux retard

Meanwhile iToddlers are fully accommodated in fixing fagOS through command line. If even normiest normie is capable of that, then sure they can just use Linux.

you picked the wrong distro.
or you trying to use your programs in wine where you require a lot of debuggin instead of using the native alternatives
manjaro close to windows in functionality.
it only lack the 3th party software support

It's not difficult, it's just different.
Migrated to Linux after win10 proved itself unstable, slow and full of various faggotry.

Stop recommending that shitty repackage. Go *buntu or go Mint.

>I'm not a programmer, just a home user
-Here so, by means of simple tools it is possible to transform a loaf of white or black bread into a trolley bus. But what for?

Linux at home
But what for?

I have only written useful tools in Javascript and can easily use Linux. It takes some time to learn, it is NOT like Windows and never will be.

I heavily use the terminal, I guess it is because it is faster and in older days it was required. These days you can go without it for all casual usage, even those who play games can avoid it.

Want to add a ppa in Ubuntu? Use synaptic
Install a driver? Use the GUI tool provided

To answer your question, I use Linix because it isnt cancerous spyware trash being forced on me, it is free and open source which allows me to trust the software more. It is faster and less intrusive and I only use it for games and general browsing at this point but I could edit videos and write code if I wanted to.

normies complete tasks on a computer by rote and procedure, so if they deviate even slightly from what they're trying to do, they become helplessly lost vs. people who can creatively problem solve while doing stuff on a computer.

my dad is great with cars and can identify an issue it's having by sound and subtle details but is helpless with computers. they just have an opposite set of skills.

Linux is for IT nerds

Am I hired, not ken blocked, if I told you that its about Pluggin in the Cables, that Freddys Microsoft doesnt offer? Have you noticed that mine offers Plug In Play, it's quite alien I just featured, my championships to use for Moo-Gi's.
Linux is literally Alchemy.
Plug it in and figure out the Rams code, whos RAMS whos.. rams, Did I get a secret Job??

>hood and hatch are preinstalled
bloatware

Just did it on Ubuntu with two clicks

tfw I don't even know python and my friends think of me as a master of linux because I've used it for 6 years and have a custom spin of debian with sysvinit (started b4 devuan was a thing).

I don't even know how to program I just like computers, using Linux isn't that difficult.

>friends
>linux fag

If printing off a sheet of paper with basic commands on it and using CLI is too much for you, go back to mac.

CLI isn't programming, it's literally typing commands.

do on thing1 thing2

dont ruin their dreams

one could probably argue the majority of linux users either are programmers or can manage themselves with shell/python/web scripts. otherwise there's no real reason to use gnu/linux over wangblows. no one would ever use ubuntu for fun.

nu/g/ everybody
