I have the Quest, and I've also previous had every Oculus other since the DK1. Being portable and wireless is really nice, and the screen is great too. But it does have problems. Many apps cannot be run or is very gimped in graphics, because the hardware is too weak. And the inside-out tracking is glitchy sometimes, and the controllers lose tracking quite often. Beat saber is fun but frustrating to play on a high level because you randomly miss notes because the controllers lose tracking.

Overall the Quest isn't better than existing tethered solutions like the Rift or Vive, it's just different. It's an ok choice if you don't like hassle. But I'm getting a Valve Index when it is available in my country.

VR in general though, is definitely "good enough", and it has been for years. It's probably the most interesting and fun thing to happen to consumer tech in a decade. If you have the money for it you should definitely buy a headset, be it a Quest or otherwise.

i wouldn't buy it because i have a pcvr and i'm very much into it. i'm not their target though, i imagine people who want to start doing vr would absolutely love the quest

This. I've got into motion controller vr pretty late (used to have DK2 for racing vidya only), holy shit is this stuff fun. People don't get it before they try it, ripping off ordinary counter strike into pavlov changes the way you experience the game entirely. And that's just the beginning, games are slowly beginning to adapt full body tracking, index is here, boneworks soon, doing VR right now is absolutely wonderful. I can't remember the last time i've played a flatscreen game.

It's unironically the revolution on the scale similar to the beginning of 3D era. New possibilities, new approach to vidya making, players start wanting different things, what a time to be alive
