If you're on Windows 10 File Explorer does a good job. Otherwise go for Virtual Clone Drive, free and powerful:

This has worked since forever without the need for third party software and for any filesystem not just iso and not just read-only.

It stops working when you umount(eject for the winbabs) all the images for some reason. Just keep one always mounted and switch it.

Firstly, Windows since version 8 and Linux both support mounting ISOs natively. Secondly, every version of Windows since 3.1 supports the SUBST command in a command prompt to mount folders as drives.

Even DOS had the ability to mount directories as drives. People used to do that a lot to emulate floppy and optical drives.
