Redpill on STAX for newbies: STAX is an old Jap company with outdated tech that was considered good back in the 1970s but sounds like ass by today's standards, so they went nearly bankrupt.

They were purchased for less than $900K by a Chinese company Edifier (whose primary market is cheap Chinese speakers and headphones) who decided to market STAX to the audiophool "more expensive is better" demographic who buys those crappy $3000 vinyl players, they shill heavily on HeadFi and here on /hpg/. They also leveraged STAX's prior Japanese identity to market it to weebs, using Youtubers like Zeos.

>In December 2011, Chinese loudspeaker manufacturer Edifier announced the acquisition of 100% equity in Stax

Oratory has measured the highest end STAX, the SR-009S.

dropbox.com/s/dm0m6u3s3b4zqzl/Sennheiser HD600.pdf?dl=0

It's worse than the HD600. HD600 scored 92 and SR-009S scored 76.

Recently Rtings rated STAX across various dimension, it's worse in terms of sound than mid-priced offerings from Hifiman and Audeze, and only got a 7.7 rating.

>The very highest end STAX ($4000 SR-009) was rated lower in blind tests than a $200 K701

To add insult to overpriced injury, they have shitty plastic build quality that you would expect on cheap chinkshit headphones:

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi. This is why they don't demo them in store, they rely on the internet to create a sense of mystique around STAX and shill it as the endgame because its expensive, Asian, rare and obscure. In reality its Made in China snakeoil for the audiophool.

First for SUMMIT FI

I can't understand how Sennheiser can still sell these at 500 dollars, considering all the other offerings you could get at that price range AND THAT THE FUCKING 6XX's EXIST GODDAMNIT

Yes.

That guy is basically why normies don't believe in sound quality at all and think audiophiles are basically astrologists.

audiophiles are retarded to be fair

The environment wasn't adequate for you to fully understand the power of stax. Just buy them and you won't be disappointed.

SHP9500

What's your budget and signal path?

Yes, just ignore him. He posts the same things every single thread. Don't respond to him, he just wants (You)s and keeps track of the exact number he's gotten over time. Half the time it's just him talking to himself.

Why?

Just curious.

Sennheiser owners are incels.

the Staxtard cries out in pain as he strikes you and makes poor financial decisions

Oh

Anyone who doesn't own SHP9500 is incel.

stax and sennheiser are both ripoffs, although they're not as bad as zmf

Fostex + Schiit truly endgame.

I just want to say you've helped me through so many hard times. Thanks for making this day just a little bit brighter. +Like (thumbs up)

I just spend $250 on a FiiO E10K USB DAC and BD DT770 Pro 80oHms headphones. I'm currently using skullcandy to give you reference of where I'm at. Did I done good?

I don't plan on owning one, at all. I just cant understand how dumbfucks buy them. It's literally retuned refurbished trash on a 3 decades old design. It's almost as if Toyota was still selling a 94 Corolla with new headlamps and asking full price.

HD6XX are truly just not good. Way too dark. I know the "audiophile" sound tends to be pretty warm, but they just sounded bad and were too uncomfortable.

and zmf is not as bad as bose

I prob would have gotten the 250 ohm DT770, but yea you'll be just fine. E10K is a decent little unit.

What about Audeze? Overpriced wouldn't even begin to describe it

fuck you, bose is a decent value. not great, but it's fine

Personally I’m enjoying SR-009 with the State of the Art SRM-D10

Yeah, I have several two channel setups around the house including a dedicated/treated listening room but this is headphone general :)

btw owned quad’s for awhile but never stax loudspeakers...was hesitant to buy the 007 and/or 009 given the cost and just getting quads again but glad I decided to pick them up...don’t exactly have the space for more speakers anytime soon.

audeze is like sennheiser in that they have one good product, the hd6** and the lcd2c, and then everything else is overpriced garbage

Whats the best speakers for my new pc build

Cute

I agree with you, but the LCD2 should be priced at 500 dollars tops in order to be competitive. Their "fazor" and "fluxor" tech isn't anything out of this world, nor is their planar magnetic drivers or construction so amazing in order to ask 1 thousand dollars for a set. Don't even get me started on LCD4's, as gimmicky and overpriced as Utopias, but at least those have the esoteric materials to back the price. An LCD4 would easily be mistaken by an 2 with a different wood.
Their pads are god tier tho, i'll give you that. Even then, paying north of a hundred for some foam and stitched leather? fuck off.

Attached: audiophile.jpg (1280x850, 129K)

Should I get new ear pads bros?

Attached: 20190623_152116.jpg (4032x3024, 3.39M)

Not those.

Thought that was a fedora from the thumbnail.

What are the best noise-cancelling headphones I can buy?

I want to see your speaker setup. Please?

That guy is definitely trying to hear the difference between 320kb/s MP3 and FLAC (he can't btw)

No, it's just my HD428.

Attached: 20190623_152126.jpg (4032x3024, 3.55M)

Not with your $10 apple earbuds you can't

whatever you say placebofag

Stop falling for placebo and do an ABX blind test.

Might as well get decent headphones while you're at it.

But I like how these sound.

doesnt the apple usb c dongle outperform this?

What bout SHURES? can you be sure about them?

>buy Nightowls
>get horrible headache after 10 minutes of use

Why is it so hard to find a pair of headphones that don't give me headaches?

E10K can't do more than 150 ohms

you can tell the difference between 320 and FLAC quite easily actually, but only if you're trained for what to look for and only if the track contains the right kind of sounds, specifically cymbals. there's a certain sound cymbals make in mp3 that's different than in FLAC. it doesn't sound better or worse it's just different and once you learn it you can spot 320 in some situations. but I would never, ever, say FLAC is worth it or better. you can't tell the difference at all with almost all music, and being able to spot the difference is mostly a gimmick. 320 is more than enough.

no, but here’s a pic of the motor for my VPI TNT mkV turntable

Attached: 59BB46CB-5312-45FD-852D-0D65AFBD057F.jpg (4032x3024, 1.69M)

DT770 250ohm aren't that hard to drive.

MP3 was actually designed to be used as a vairable bitrate. LAME V0 is fantastic and saves space and literally can't tell the difference from 320 CBR. The creater of the MP3 is baffled why 320 kb/s CBR became the standard.

How about getting open backs without nigger bass for once.

Hey user, whatre you listening this afternoon, some DJ Quik and AMG over here.

Attached: 8A1DBFAA-D95F-45D8-ADE9-7C6D4F9C5967.jpg (3845x2132, 1.66M)

For some reason heavy headphones give me headaches. And they aren't bassy at all.

You need SHP9500s.

yea back when I was big into what I only encoded v0. but if I say that people don't know what I'm talking about these days. I don't know how it's not the standard.

Should I buy Topping D30 or Sanskrit 10th? Curious about the AK4490 chip. Thanks.

Attached: 10194405.jpg (2000x1333, 393K)

You sure its not just the clamping force? Shame you wont be able to enjoy planars. Get some senn hd6 series then, they're super light weight.

Oh yea, I need optical input and the unit to be powered separately from PC.

Comfy stuff
