To take notes in school, both handwritten with the stylus and with a keyboard. I don't do anything when I'm not at home that requires a desktop OS, and tablets are also much better than laptops for reading PDFs and things like that.

no, because I'm not gay

They're very good for reading books.

I owned a lagPad once. Never again.

to read exhentai in bed

Perfect for emulation, especially for ds games

A 2-in-1. Because it's just like a netbook with a bonus drawing tablet.

Got an iPad for reading books and watching videos mainly. I occasionally shitpost on it too. I just wish Apple would release an iPad with the OLED screen so I can finally upgrade my old iPad.

Nexus 7 2013, because it was cheap and the 2012 model is total dog shit. Really only used for shitposting, porn, and movies on flights.

I've got a 13" one for textbooks and notetaking. I've been meaning to get another Windows tablet but don't want 10. Are there any that still come with 8.1? Preferably one that dual-boots with Android

Lurking while I'm comfortably laying down in bed.

>Are there any that still come with 8.1?
Check refurb centres for HP Streams. They originally shipped with 8, so that would be my recommendation.

I bought an iPad 3 when it came out. I liked it but hardly used it because it didn't offer many advantages over my phone.

I'm considering getting an iPad Pro because the features have come a long way and I can use it as a graphics tablet.

i have 3 tablets, 1 android and 2 windows.
got them to draw porn, the android one is used as a video player and is docked 24/7, one of the windows is a chinese piece of shit that only use it for social media/messaging sites, and the second windows one is for drawing loli porn.

Owned two. Used both for bed browsing and watching videos when trying to sleep.

>bought a second gen iPad mini shortly after release in 2012(?)
>stopped using it for years so I recently updated it and gave it to my parents
>recent iOS update actually un-lagged it which surprised the fuck out of me since I stopped using it years ago because it started getting laggy

>last week bought a fourth gen iPad with a cracked screen/broken digitizer and a replacement screen/digitizer combo
>$50 for the iPad and $10 for the screen
>Works surprisingly well for being from 2012(2014?)

I got a chinese crappy tablet for free like 5 years ago, use it to read books, pdfs and chinese comics, its starting to show its age, I'm gonna buy a samsung s5e soon, they are handy for what I just said.

I OWN A THINKPAD.

I got an iPad Air 2 as a gift from my rich uncle, idk I don't use it for much other than reading technical books and datasheets in PDF. The screen is nice, I guess.

same as this user with a 1st gen ipad mini. Got it cheap second hand but with plenty of battery. Helps me get some sleep

Redpill me on the ipad pro + pencil.
I'd use it for manga, internet, and drawing.
1k is bit steep though.

I just sold my 12.9” iPad Pro.
I thought I’d take notes with it
I thought it’d be great for consuming content
I thought it’d be great for quick documentation

I continued to use pen/paper in meetings, continued to use my laptop for technical documentation and it was just too big to lay around and browse on.

I also have two kids, I was constantly worried they were going to find it in a drawer and drop it.

Get the bottom model. No difference in pen performance. Still working on 2500x2500 canvases with 30-60 layers on CLIP Studio.

I upgraded briefly to the 11" and returned back to the iPad non-pro model.

To read pirated e-books and occasionally fap to doujins. Bought a Kindle Fire for like $40 on sale 3 christmases ago and removed the ads, and pseudo-jailbroke it so I didn't have to deal with Amazon's retarded UI + Amazon's proprietary app repo.

Main complaints I have is the bezel and that it has almost no RAM and a shitty wifi chip. Battery life is decent and it can take microSD cards though

good and decent enough if youre starting and are interested in investing on the drawing apps for it. But dont fucking buy it new.
Hell, just get the cheaper ipad that supports the pencil. Dont need the pro model if youre just going to IRL shitpost on it

Attached: 1560599866149.jpg (350x443, 52K)

Oh man, that's ridiculous. I'd expect that kind of shit from a 486.

Which windows tablet would you recommend for drawing

Got a galaxy tab s2 8 inch version. Nice amoled screen, perfect screen ratio and size for porn, manga and comfy browsing at bed. Will use it until it breaks. Too bad the new version are all too big.

Wanted a media device for travel because in-flight entertainment and hotel tv is fucking shit and I'd rather bring my own stuff to watch and sometimes I take 3day work trips that don't require me to bring a laptop.

Cheapest one that wasn't total shit was the mi pad 4, which has godtier battery. It's fine for watching video, reading pdfs (or chinese cartoons if that's what you want) and shitposting on here whilst on the shitter. It's tedious to bring this, an ebook reader and a phone though.
I still prefer to read shit on an e-ink display but you can't watch video on e-ink.

Get anything with wacom digitizer, i use a Galaxy book 10.6 and works pretty well, but the 12" inch may better with its specs (not the latest edition that its Arm based)

Used Thinkpads have shitty batteries. Laptops with good batteries are expensive af. Is an iPad a sufficient mobile replacement for a laptop if you have a desktop at home?

I got a SP4 as a present last year. It's pretty neat, but I don't draw and I'm not in school, so I don't find much use for the pen. Nice being able to do anything a desktop can do on a tablet, so I mainly just use it for playing music and watching videos.

>Used Thinkpads have shitty batteries.
So track down a new battery, they're replaceable for a reason

Look for any laptop with a Celeron or Pentium. Those fuckers sip power, you can get a 10+ hour laptop for under $200.

I picked up a referb iPad Pro 10.5 last April for mobile music production and midi sequencing. It's fucking great.

Come back when you get TempleOS working on bare metal tablet hardware.

Yes, let's buy a $100 battery for my $90 Thinkpad.
Don't forget another $50 for an SSD and RAM to catch up to modern standards. Even then the CPU/GPU speeds are complete garbage.

The used Thinkpad ship has sailed years ago.

I've got a $90 battery coming in for a $30 Latitude right now. Worth every penny.

>Buying a battery for a laptop
>Leaves the laptop plugged in on the desk for the rest of its service life

Yeah but everything else about those laptops is gonna be shit
do newer Thinkpads (T450 upwards) still have replacable batteries? hot swap I mean

>why?
At home I rather use a laptop or desktop and outside I rather have something small like a phone. Tablet fits no purpose.

I used to have one. Used it for video, ebooks, and in bed shitposting.

Now my phone is big enough to suffice for shit posting. I got a laptop that's light enough to whatcha video in bed and carry around the house. And I got a Kobo for ebooks.

The tablet is a jack of few trades, master of none. I am interested in phones that fold out to a tablet, though. Just for video/porn.

Well, at least you aren't a mindless thinkdrone. Dell casings age a lot better than stinkpads

If that was the use case I'd have no reason to buy a battery at all.

>Yeah but everything else about those laptops is gonna be shit
Not really, even cheap laptops these days have at least decent build quality, and since they have no moving parts, there's nothing to break in a drop.

These cheap laptops are thicker so they have better keyboards, 15" ones have DVD and HDD slots for massive storage expansion and ethernet ports, not even Thinkpads have these, except the keyboard.
Precision trackpads are so good that I never feel the need to use a trackpoint ever again.

>Kobo
is that better if I just want to read pdfs, ebooks and manga?

>there's nothing to break in a drop
Maybe not a hard drive, but screen and hinges are still damn fragile.

Have a Kindle Paperwhite. Had a couple iPads in the past, sold them both. Just not something I use enough to justify buying, but I still irrationally want a current gen iPad Mini.

Screens are a lot lighter and plastics are a lot stronger these days. The Acer I have bends all the way back like 250 degrees (beyond flat). It will max out in regular usage, which is the main cause of hinges failing on laptops.

Drop hinges on the X240/T440 and newer are pretty fucking shit too.

yes

this

I have a current-gen base iPad for reading in bed, on the shitter, etc.

Netflix in bed.

>even cheap laptops these days have at least decent build quality
They look and feel like literal toys, that is not decent build quality. Not to mention the flex on almost all of them, it might not break but it doesn't mean it's quality. A cheap tablet like the Tab S5e or base iPad have a much higher build quality.

have sex

dilate

>Use papers and pencils for note taking.
>Buy a cheap printer for PDFs. Print Double sided. Sort and store your printed PDFs which you will need further. Recycle the papers you won't.
You don't need a tablet to do well in college, my user.
But with that new gayOS coming this autumn, things may change a little bit.

Yeah, I have a Surface Pro 6. It was a good choice for a portable device for me. I need a proper computer for the occasional (business) trip I go on, but if I bought an actual laptop it would never really be used otherwise. The SP6 actually gets fairly regular use for shit like reading news and browsing, but also for manga and occasionally to play old games.

ipad pro. It's basically a steam link machine so I can use my desktop in bed

More portable than a laptop. Instant-on. Convenient and sufficient for most things.

>exchange tablets with mom

>folders get destroyed if I alphabetize the apps
>Files app just copies the file from one sandbox to another
>no webm
Jesus fucking Christ, how does anybody finish any work here?

>webm
>work

>doesn't shitpost in work

>sufficient for most things
If you are a worthless

have sex

I use an iPad because I need to for foreflight
It's a laggy piece of trash but it doesn't need to be responsive when I'm just reading an approach plate

No, get a eink reader

>PDFs and manga
No, real tablet is better for that.

No, a large ereader is better for that

Yeah, for watching videos and playing chrono trigger mostly.

What do you fly? I'm starting my training in earnest this fall, took a few lessons years ago but gonna try and take it all the way to a career this time around.

Call me when 15" eink is affordable

You have a 15" tablet? My 13" eInk ereader works wonderfully

For me works also yt, and comfy in bed browsing.

You do have a job dont you user

Do you use a smartphone at home? Yeah, that's what I use my tablet for. I rarely take it outside of the house.
I use it to read things in bed. It holds the names and phone numbers of 50+ prostitutes (something I would never keep on my phone).

Post it

Shitposting in bed, reading, streaming music while I work, web browsing when I need quick info.

reading PDFs mostly

Based

I am thinking of upgrading to an iPad Pro 2017. They are like 480 for 64 gigs refurbished models.

Why not sell them and combine them.......? Seems like a waste.

ipad 12.9 for drawing, reading comics, note taking and also use it as a second screen when on my laptop and writing code for websites at work since I have like 7 hours downtime I started up my own business

I have a Surface pro 2 with a shit battery. It's for shitposting and other shit related tasks that I wouldn't with my main machine.

Yes I bought it mainly to read books and such.

More comfy to use in bed than laptop.

I basically have a wacom enabled windows 10 2in1, which has replaced my netbook, it's more powerful, it's 10.1", it has a much longer battery life, and when I need the keyboard, I dock it, but the fucking keyboard weights almost twice as much as the tablet.

I mainly use it when I'm out and about and have to have access to a windows pc to do diagnostics n shit my 6.44" phone can't do.
At home I got 3 screens and a desktop.

Yes
Because I fly a lot for work and the tablet is great for a carry on to watch/read stuff so I can leave my stupid big heavy battery sucking laptop in my checked bag
If I didn't fly so much I probably wouldn't want one.

Nah. Tablets were always a gimmick for normies at best. Literally smart speaker-tier bullshit.

7" (16:9) is perfect for reading books and magazines while still fitting in one hand. Useful for watching videos too so my phone doesn't get drained.
It also doubles as a backup phone. Small Android tablets are pretty much just large phones since they're meant to be used in portrait mode and tend to have a simard slot and an earpiece.

Working as a construction manager for GC corporation and I own a iPad, company supplied.

Snugged it in a rugged case and I do most of my work on site without returning to site office.

>taking construction photograph
>making inspection
>reading diagram
>taking note with iPencil
>use as a alternative measurement tool
>reading mail
>cloud meeting while on-site.

I have 8", Samsung tab S2. Pretty comfy for reading books. Very light too, only 256 grams.

Terrible idea. This messes up your sleep. You should use an e-reader.

they are too slow and shitty

wow turning pages requires so much CPu

I bought an ipad because I thought I would use it but in reality it just sits there doing nothing.

I have some shitty acer android tablet, its ass and slow as fuck but its good enough to watch videos/youtube/movies/etc and read comics/manga on bed.

Eink reader are only good for compressed html files.

tablets are only good for cum tributes lol

This thing replaces my laptop. I use it for remote working, shitpost, drawing, and medieval 2.
