Unless you're running Intel or proprietary Nvidia, heavy DEs shouldn't be tearing anymore. Xfce will also follow suite in 4.14. As for comfiness, that's up to you. I generally prefer a desktop that just doesn't microstutter and unfortunately most GTK desktops excluding Budgie do this due to Mutter, but at least all don't tear.

Cinnamon is trash. It locks you into its own set of programs that you can't uninstall. Someone asked the devs why Cinnamon depends on Nemo, since they wanted to use something else, and their answer was "lol we made nemo for cinnamon so fuck you"

Debian just whatever fucking comes in the box. Fragmentation and confusion is one major thing halting the adaptation of free software in PCs I think. I just use it in the same way I would install it on some normie computer and you should be doing the same for the best of yourself and free software as a whole.
