>removes the only thing that made Ubuntu different from the 300+ distros (unity) >dropped support for proprietary AMD drivers so older cards run like shit >will drop support for 32bit so you can't even run steam or play any games >amazon botnet
This is why I didn't even consider Ubuntu for a first distro and would never recommend it
Jonathan Ramirez
Yes. Installed opensuse leap and its amazing
Christopher Scott
Its not like you can't run 32bit programs, it just doesn't support 32bit computers
Levi Foster
False. They are eliminating compat32 in entirety.
Thomas Ward
Debianfag here can you not still just: dpkg --add-architecture i386 as long as your hardware supports the instruction set still?
Nicholas Torres
This, except the complete opposite
Aaron Carter
>removes the only thing that made Ubuntu different from the 300+ distros (unity) you mean integrated amazon desktop, everyone dropped ubuntu to mint because of this idiot. nobody outside of Jow Forums likes unity, you're a subhuman contrarian
Jace Cox
GNOME is 50x worse than unity
Ryder Garcia
Has Pajeet$hit$oft got their shit stained hand into Canonical... this seems the only explanation. >Embrace, extend and extinguish...
Connor Robinson
>he doesn't know
Benjamin Carter
>Caring about DEs Are you college freshman? People who work don't care about DEs.
Thomas Johnson
Nope
Lucas Thomas
this. a DE's job is to not get between me and my application.
Kayden Hernandez
People who work use Windows
Jeremiah Rogers
this, but even normal people got pissed at the amazon bullshit that time. I don't care about window manager gimmicks like these wannabe hacker newfags but that shit was funny
Jonathan Powell
Ubuntu isn't for desktop. Mint will always be better.
Liam Butler
They realized that there's no money in the desktop market and are going balls deep into servers. Don't blame them, either way it's better for the whole community if we ditch Ubuntu
Liam Morales
More redhate lies.
Jonathan Gutierrez
>either way it's better for the whole community if we ditch Ubuntu no it's not? how is it bad to have a beginner friendly distro with widespread support?
Angel Allen
No heard the same thing someone posted it in the forums. Apparently they just froze i386 packages to 18.04lts
Ethan Garcia
but why when centos is already a thing?
we don't need two server distros and nobody in their right fucking mind would ever deploy ubuntu over centos for server work
Nathaniel Reyes
Which is still extremely bad for Steam games which need latest 32-bit mesa
Isaac Harris
You've just described Mint
Carson Garcia
which is based on Ubuntu...
Matthew King
There might be a possibility but not exactly. Older games dont require new mesa and newer indie games always come with both a 32 and 64 bit binary. But that had started phasing out too - there may be an issue there. AAA is of course 64 bit only But a real issue is that ubuntu wont be able to get new versions of proton for 32 bit applications, nor any updates to wine.
Colton Wilson
Mint sucks donkey ass, it has no purpose over any flavor of Ubuntu which is infinitely better maintained
Ethan Miller
Use Pop!_OS my friend.
Parker Adams
I think the Debian Foundation should get their heads of their arse and start a desktop version based on testing. We never needed ubuntu to begin with.
Jacob Edwards
yes
Ethan Young
PureOS
Anthony King
Tell that to Xubuntu. Mint is years ahead of it in terms of usability. Ubuntu GNOME has absurd lag issues. Ubuntu MATE would freeze the entire OS when opening download folders through firefox. Ubuntu is a fucking joke and Mint has to fix Ubuntu issues constantly.
Jason Gutierrez
Will PureOS let me add the contrib repos? They're FSF sponsored, after all, so I wouldn't believe it to be a possibility.
Noah Williams
Honestly if the Mint team makes LMDE their main distro it would fill this gap, and i'd definitely use it.
Thomas Garcia
It's still Debian, it will let you if you edit the sources.
Colton Barnes
I thought about it too, but I'm not sure they would be keen to abandon Ubuntu that easily. Even right now LMDE is more of an experiment than anything else.
>Ubuntu MATE would freeze the entire OS when opening download folders through firefox.
damn I thought it was just me
Sebastian Myers
>Ultimately though they will be pushing for packages like Wine to make use of Snaps or other containers for running 32-bit software in the future. >they're still trying to dictate what users and upstream devs will do It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
Andrew King
Frankly Red Hat does it all the time, first with pulseaudio and then to a much larger extent with systemd. They know how to do it well though, to the point they got even the Debian foundation to swear by an init system that is linux centric.
William Rodriguez
It's not just them. Anyone else notice that software companies have become very arrogrant and dumb. Tumblr deleted all it's porn. Firefox got rid of it's got addons and continues to fuck up the browsers more each update
Nicholas James
>I think the Debian Foundation should get their heads of their arse It's you who should take their head out of their ass. You don't dictate the Debian project, and they operate the way they want to.
Ian Murphy
>we don’t care about users >omg why isn’t anyone using gnu/linux on the desktop >omg why are there a million exploits in the kernel now for servers >we are not the problem if they want another option they’ll use it >omg why are ms and google monopolies
Justin Wright
>t. ECDL Exprert and LVL7 MS Support Engineer.
Benjamin Baker
ms doesn't care about its users, that's why they shove every shit they have down your throat. debian tries to be as neutral as they can while having support for everything included in their stable release. debian is not opensuse to make deals with ms debian is not canonical to sell your queries to amazon debian is not redhat to have you as beta tester for rhel debian is not your basement dweller amateur arch distro that being said, amazon is an orginization, not a corporation that will try to lure users. If you are stupid enough to install debian, fine, use ubuntu. Debian made such a huge impact on linux that despite having rpm as the official linux package or other similar shit, they remain loyal to their goals and roadmap that have gained a lot of momentum and funds for doing so.
This. They already officially sponsor DebianEdu/Skolelinux as a side project. They should do the same for a for a home edition version instead of letting beginners distrohop and settle on some bloated crap like Mint.
