Best browswer for Linux?

I use Firefox currently but want something more focused on privacy.

Every browser besides plain stuff like Midori or Falkon is botnet, so your options are limited.

Chromium is your best bet if you're on Linux, at least until they actually apply manifest v3. Otherwise, your choices are:

>IceCat
Spyware free to an almost excessive extent, but if you care about webpages not breaking you will have to disable a number of pre-installed extensions.

>PaleMoon
Based on an old Firefox fork, now has its own layout engine. Good customizability and decent extension support.

Otherwise you may want to try less famous alternatives such as:

>OtterBrowser
Independent project that aims to recreate the old school, good, Opera. Not much extension support I'm afraid.

>Midori
Based on webkit, it's fully open source like all the other browser I mentioned. It's supposed to be privacy oriented but does not seem to have powerful privacy tools like the mainstream ones.

I also heard good things about Falkon, but I never ended it up actually trying it.

>Chromium
Ungoogled Chromium*

This, of course, thanks for pointing it out.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>decent extension support
Uhm, lol? Did you miss the drama when they started blocking extension they don't like? Palemoon is a cuck browser.

linux is a kernel

Nope, but you've still got uBlock, an uMatrix equivalent and Decentraleyes, and that's pretty much all you need after tinkering with the preferences. Of course, the developer is a furry and that alone says a lot about the project.

So Firefox then?

Elinks

Firefox with a custom user.js for privacy unless you want to use some shitty fork that lags behind on security updates and gives you a unique fingerprint.

Meh.

extensions.blocklist.enabled False

>Not using Lynx

qutebrowser

the best thing to do is keep several browsers installed

i use chromium for only google owned websites, google searches, gmail and youtube

i use firefox for most general purpose browsing,

i use icecat for risky web exploring porn and such

seamonkey for the built in email client

if you are using the linux kernel there is a good chance the rest of the OS is GNU/Linux too

not too many windows OSs booting with Linux kernels, (at least not yet)

>more focused on privacy
there you go, you passed the brainlet filter

The dev being a furry I actually see as a plus. It gives me more hope that he's working on the browser out of sheer autism rather than some shady botnet-affilated ulterior motives.

>but want something more focused on privacy.
or you could just stop watching porn so much, it's bad for your health
