do the stax posters realize the $20 ksc75s have far better soundstage and bass?
not to mention the comfort, how easily they're driven, and how much less stupid they look

Redpill on STAX for newbies: STAX is an old Jap company with outdated tech that was considered good back in the 1970s but sounds like ass by today's standards, so they went nearly bankrupt.

They were purchased for less than $900K by a Chinese company Edifier (whose primary market is cheap Chinese speakers and headphones) who decided to market STAX to the audiophool "more expensive is better" demographic who buys those crappy $3000 vinyl players, they shill heavily on HeadFi and here on /hpg/. They also leveraged STAX's prior Japanese identity to market it to weebs, using Youtubers like Zeos.

>In December 2011, Chinese loudspeaker manufacturer Edifier announced the acquisition of 100% equity in Stax

Oratory has measured the highest end STAX, the SR-009S.

dropbox.com/s/61srehjyaltd7w0/Stax SR-009S.pdf?dl=0

dropbox.com/s/dm0m6u3s3b4zqzl/Sennheiser HD600.pdf?dl=0

It's worse than the HD600. HD600 scored 92 and SR-009S scored 76.

Recently Rtings rated STAX across various dimension, it's worse in terms of sound than mid-priced offerings from Hifiman and Audeze, and only got a 7.7 rating.

To add insult to overpriced injury, they have shitty plastic build quality that you would expect on cheap chinkshit headphones:

i.imgur.com/Dru4gzZ.png

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi. This is why they don't demo them in store, they rely on the internet to create a sense of mystique around STAX and shill it as the endgame because its expensive, Asian, rare and obscure. In reality its Made in China snakeoil for the audiophool.

S.O.S. Anons! I know this is headphone general, but don't think this deserves it's own thread.

My Logitech Z 2300 PC speakers, which served me faithfully for ~15 years have finally shit the bed. They were quite excellent with 200 watts of power, an 8 inch 120 watt subwoofer and two 40 watt satellite speakers.

I definitely don't want to downgrade, but I really don't have the space to buy a separate amp, two bookshelf speakers, and a sub. Can anyone recommend a 2.1 setup under $350ish? Short list is mostly the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system as the usual suspect. I mostly listen to classical, opera, rock, and movies.

buy stax

I just bought a pair of 250 Ohm beyerdynamic DT 880. Should I buy an AMP to go with them. I currently use my LG v35 ThinQ and my PC with a A40 Walkman as a DAC to drive them.

What benefits would the AMP provide? Any recommended models?

Why do you guys meme on stax so much? Not defending stax, just wondering why stax specifically, since there are plenty of meme brands for people with more money than sense.

Is the DT1990 a worthy upgrade from the HD58X or should I just save more for Elex?

Depends on your needs. But the DT1999 is considered end-game for many. Since anything more expensive is diminishing returns. Best is to get Headphones in the price range of HD6xx and DT1990 and do sidegrades, instead on wasting your money on one pair, since you have more versatility this way. The one expensive pair is maybe 5-10% better in some categories, but it never is as versatile as a couple of mid-fi offerings.
You may want to look into the SendyAudio Aiva they are apparently one of the best build headphones ever and sound really good, for just 600. And in my opinion they are the best looking pair, period.
I may get them as my last upgrade, after i finished sidegrading for all my use cases.

Why is metal571 such a shithead? He acts like he can hear every tiny bump and drop he sees in graphs and then goes like "well this destroys the headphone better get a HD600". He acts like only perfectly neutral headphones are good. What a fucking snakeoil faggot.

Good headphone amp to go with a FiiO D3 and Sennheiser HD 449? Getting interference from my GPU with onboard audio and FiiO doesn't have a volume knob so it's a bit quiet even with OS volume up to max. Under $60 USD

Nobsound NS-08E on amazon. Exactly $50.

Should've said I'm new to this, setup is optical to FiiO D3 to 3.5mm headphones. I'd need a preamp and an amp for this?

I don't know about those two devices, but if the sound quality is really great (often devices like this have pretty shitty/noisy DACs) then the question is: Is the volume too low for you? If so, go get an amplifier. If the sound quality isn't so great: Can you handle the noise being aplified?

>Line out 3.5mm from Fiio D3 to Line In on Nobsound NS-08E
>Line out 3.5mm from Nobsound to headphones
>Turn on Nobsound and give it at the very least 30 seconds to warm up
>Listen to music

The nobsound is an amp but it can operate in pre amp mode. You don't need anything else for this to operate, though buying new, quality tubes for the Nobsound down the line will only increase the quality.

The tubes don't do anything on that cheap piece of shit lol are you kidding me

Nothing actually does anything. Let him enjoy the placebo and go back to sleep

Thanks user, if the tubes break or get damaged somehow I can put any tubes on as long as they're the same size?

Attached: haam.png (500x450, 136K)

No. They provide a list of tube types that will work with it. Get something that is listed in the compatible section.

Thanks a lot, good night user.

I have money to burn. Are 660s better in any objective ways to 58X?

People constantly saying "for the price" and "easy to drive, don't need an amp" suggests to me they're not as good.

>Why is metal571 such a shithead?
I don't know, the faggots obsessing over a random low end, nobass/notreble, technically outdated mudcannon and praising it as the best thing ever are beyond any human understanding.
It's also well known that this "neutrality" concept is complete bullshit and there's no actual definition for it. And even by the retarded standards that some try to push, hd600 will never be anywhere close to flat, nor reference.
Basically, I'm at a loss with this guys.

grado

Depends who you ask.
Zeos thinks they almost sound identical and people saying they sound distinctly different are coping hard (bought HD660S which are like 3x times the price for almost not discernable difference even when comparing next to each other).
Others (mainly reddit users and other random audiophiles on the internet) claim that they are pretty different sounding.

In the end it's like the HD600 and HD650. They sound pretty much the same (especially when you can't test them next to each other) and some people say they sound to similar to give a fuck and others say they sound completely different.

I wouldn't give to much of a shit and get the cheaper one.

Buy Stax instead

I feel you. I really don't understand why this retard always tries to eq all the headphones to "neutral levels like the HD600". Like what the actual fuck.
Doesn't he understand that not all headphones are supposed to sound "neutral"? Fucking companies and their technicians are long enough in the game to know what the fuck they are doing and then comes a cunt like him and is like "well I EQ'd it so it sounds less shitty".
It's like saying tube amps are shit cause they colour the sound. Yeah no shit sherlock, they are supposed to do exactly that. Fuckhead571

Thinking about getting the HD6XX.
Would a FiiO E10K be enough to drive them properly?

Attached: 1-1.jpg (750x425, 331K)

58X and no amp.

I already have that fiio amp, so I might as well go all out with the 6xx. Just asking whether it'd be enough for 300ohm headphones.

it is because people forgot what good sound is and think muddy basscannons are now "neutral" and dickride tyll who crys about any treble in a can at all which in turned spawned a generation of fanboys that use him as a reference point, dont listen to gatekeepers and buy what you like in sound.

Hardly, you won't get full potential out off them. Just get a Atom with a Topping DAC of your choice (D10/D30 best price/perf) and be done with Amp/Dac for at least 10 years.

haven't seen in ear headphones thread for a while. what are the best cheap chinese in ears at the moment? i know Tin T2s are popular, but i hear they are very lacking in low end.

Bought one of these used and it's fantastic. Probably the best timbre of any headphone, super comfy, linear bass all the way down, the mids have great weight and the treble is as detailed as anything Stax can bring in. Also great soundstage imaging, love these for gaming.

Still $1600 brand new is a lot of money, shows just how much headphone prices have inflated. Get these used if they come up, they're rarely being sold second hand.
