They are still around. Awhile back I found huge channels with tons of gbit+ ovh boxes and such. I don't make a habit of using xdcc channels anymore but it's still a viable way to pirate. I'd say the bots and channels are even better than the ones that were around before torrent existed. Check out the Abjects network, do a /list.

Waiting in long queues for fserves to send you shit was true misery. But back in the day it was the best way to get old rare content. XDCC channels all had hacked iroffer bots on university connections and such. They were prone to disappearing once they got discovered but they usually maxed out my 1.5mbit connection. I could grab a 1.6GB movie from a hacked bot just as fast as I could grab a couple of Pokemon episodes from some random dude's fserve. Home connections all had really shitty upload back then.

Most the series I want there's an option between scene rips and user made handbrake encodes on BTN. It's a pick your poison type situation. The scene rips have a lower res and don't look nearly as good. Most of the user made shit has a higher res but is improperly deinterlaced. Sometimes it feels like I'd be better off acquiring the DVD9s via request or some other means and just watching those instead.

If these shows were on BTN at all I wouldn't be asking. I don't think there are any P2P releases at all but I was able to find scene releases on predb.
In your request you might want to state that you will take the scene release by grp name, any p2p release that may exist, or a user upload of the untouched DVD. That way you're not limiting yourself to just one possible thing.
