Do they just have a surplus of old screens or why do are they doing this?

The point of a laptop is to be portable. You know what really hampers portability? Having to tether yourself to an outlet because your battery life sucks. You know what the largest draw in a laptop is by far? The screen. Smaller screens mean instead of having to waste 80% of your battery on both a GPU rendering a large screen, and on the backlight powering a large screen you can save energy.

I honestly hope Lenovo makes a 7" laptop like the GPD Pocket 2. If I want a big screen I'll drop it in a dock at home. Honestly considering getting a nuc and hacking on a screen/battery/keyboard in a small formfactor.

Second-hand Thinkpads will most likely come with shit screen since people use them docked anyway. Then the market will be flooded with TN panel Thinkpads and it pisses people off.

Based Lenovo for giving you laptops you can use without scaling like some mouthbreathing zoomer with a 27" 4K monitor.

There are also Thinkpads with a 4K screen. I concede that that's overkill, but it's fair to say that 1366×768 is a very outdated resolution that restricts your productivity. 1920×1080 is just right for a modern notebook PC.

Even 1600×900 would be better and more practical than 768p.

I got a used T440p that had a 1600x900 TN panel that looked like crap, but it was otherwise perfect. One 1080p IPS panel from AliExpress later and it's the perfect laptop.

More importantly, the new ShitPads come with only a single ram slot and 8gb of soldered ram. Also, no more quick detach batteries.

My Macbook Pro endures 9 hours on battery and it has 500nit IPS 2560x1600 resolution.

My thinkpad has a 1080p screen and it lasts for 12 hours. You picked the wrong screen.

There's good TN and bad TN. Some 768p TN panels look just fine apart from the viewing angle and resolution. Others look like washed out low contrast messes.

It's over, I'm now buying a macbook instead.

This, though I generally get a 1080 just for the higher quality. I've seen some 768 screens a dog wouldn't take a shit on.
