We're running out of options for decent browsers

If firefox doesn't stop this bullshit I'm going to be forced to move to another browser...their ads for a firefox account contained the most cringey sentences I've seen in the english language by far, and now they are pushing this garbage. Nobody gives a fuck about your worthless politically charged podcast Mozilla, you should focus on JUST MAINTAINING YOUR FUCKING BROWSER. But what other options are there, really? To avoid standing out you need to use a mainstream browser, but chrome is botnet and IE/Edge is shit/botnet as well, so wat do??

"gnu's not unix" project very own firefox fork, gnu slash ice cat

>I'm going to be forced to move to another browser
Go ahead, nobody will miss you nor even notice your absence.

If you don't like it, fork it.
Criticizing free software should be a capital offense.

Ass hurt shill trannies.

I honestly have no idea how you guys get shit like this to pop up. I'm not signed into a Firefox account maybe that's why?

If a company with a budget of $500 million can't make a decent browser, how is one single NEET supposed to do it?

Brave uses a Google Chrome user-agent, it's ungoogled and every Chrome extension works on it.

Nobody is shilling you anything, is free software, you're free to not use it.

Yeah that's the entire fucking point of this thread, not using Firefox and picking another browser...now go bitch about your principles somewhere else, autist

Yeah then don't start a thread with >We're
There is no we on imageboards unless you mean "we Jow Forumsfags", better yet don't start a new thread at all and use the

fuck off

You're the one who doesn't belong m8.

Non-trivial. No one has time to literally fix the world themselves.

Chrome is the best. Just werks.

If you weren't a fucking ADHD kid you'd know that those ads could be disabled.
grow a brain.

install pale moon

tu quoque

I've got a speed dial addon to great me every time, so beats me.

outdated as fuck though

Install Vivaldi.

Raising awareness around ad targeting and misinformation campaigns is arguably more relevant to Mozilla's mission statement than whatever Trump expels into the shitter at 3am.

and this is why free software will always fail
proprietary software must listen to its users or lose money
freetard shit will tell you to make your own version and then cry when they rot in obscurity

You shouldn't have been using Firefox if you care about these kind of things in the first place. A better fork, your own build, ungoogled chromium/iridium, etc. would have been a better choice. Firefox is just lefties lying and deception about what it is, the ends justify the means meme.

Dilate.

I use Icecat, tranny faggot.

install ungoogled Chromium

Just use Chrome you autists. Why the fuck wouldn't you use a browser made by the BEST PROGRAMMERS in the world? It's even better if you have the enterprise version.

Which is better, ungoogled Chromium or Icecat?

Block mozilla domains in hosts?

0.0.0.0 *.mozilla.org

That’s a fucking meme. I spent over 90 minutes today running shit to install it into my machine. The program eventually gave up. Why the fuck is this not available through pacman? Fucking RMS...

yay -S icecat-bin

Just compile from source

yay -S icecat

>Why the fuck is this not available through pacman
Why the fuck are you using a shitty meme distro?

Well what should I use then

Is there noscript, adblock and downthemall for pale moon?

This isn’t me but I would like to ask the same question

>noscript
there's umatrix, not sure about noscript itself
>adblock
there's ublock origin
>downthemall
not sure what this is for

const whitelistHosts = ['connect.facebook.net', 'connect.facebook.com', 'staticxx.facebook.com', 'www.facebook.com', 'scontent.xx.fbcdn.net', 'pbs.twimg.com', 'scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net', 'platform.twitter.com', 'syndication.twitter.com', 'cdn.syndication.twimg.com']

Use ungoogled chromium

We are already out of options. Mozilla/Firefox was always run by SJWs, but at least they actually did respect standards and privacy. Google managed to accomplish what Microsoft couldn't, which is creating a browser that is superior enough for the user that privacy and web-standards can be ignored.

The other issue is the direction the web has gone, a browser is no longer just a way to view HTML over http, but has became an entire virtual machine that runs arbitrary code off the internet. For a while we could just turn off JavaScript and plugins but now nearly no website works without some sort of "active" content. This means that old engines/browsers like elinks, dillo, etc are ruled out since they can only access a small subset of the internet.

These days there are basically 2.5 options for web browser engines: Mozilla's Gecko, Google's Blink and the similar Webkit or WebEngine components. Microsoft officially gave up on browser competition and I believe decided to use webkit. Opera after being bought out by Chinese became a privacy nightmare, and they dropped their own engine long (in tech years) before Microsoft.

Browsers that rip code from Firefox or Chromium aren't sufficient, there will always be major problems with such an approach. IceCat, Brave, Tor Browser, etc, will always be vulnerable to a problems (kinda like ubuntu-based distros, or arch-based distros, but I digress)

We need to create a new web engine, or more likely, rewrite an existing web engine so that it can be a solid base for a new type of "FLOSS" browsers. We can't be held captive by the engines that Mozilla and Google made. We very well might like to steal ideas from the new developments like Blink and Servo, but probably avoid direct use of their code. Probably we'll need to start on Webkit since it was based on KHTML which fit the bill for the time it was made in.

A replacement project needs to start simply.

>WE FORKED IT
>rich trannies vs. angry normans trying to maintain a decent fork
>people give up and use the proprietary one

What's up with Jow Forums being owned by goolag shills?
Are you really that retarded?

no matter what you do the moment you are connected to the internet your data is being collected so whats the point?

fuck off goolag shill

>a browser that is superior enough for the user that privacy and web-standards can be ignored
You my friend, watch way too much cuck porn.

I agree, now go ahead and make it.

Any replacement browser must begin simply. No plugins, no extensions, no tabs, hell not even bookmark support, that stuff all gets in the way of the primary problems. If we design it correctly, we could even make it so other software could handle a lot of the end-user features. Random people on the internet can't compete with the development power of corporations, so we need to lower our expectations of features in proportion to raising our standards. When we think of a browser we must return to the simplest viable form of what can be used as a browser, then work up from there.

Alternatively, or alongside writing a new browser, there needs to be a movement to eliminate JS, WebASM, and CSS from the web as necessary components. When I learned to build websites we had this concept that things should degrade nicely, meaning that if someone uses a browser with no JS or CSS they need to have all the same functionality and the website must still be readable. At some point, that all got thrown out the window, in large part due to management not understanding technical problems and preferring short development time and flashy features over such abstract issues as compatibility, ethical coding, and correctness.

I believe that it makes no sense to even use a web browser when every website is an "app." We could have had the same shit back in the days of OpenStep and Java apps. An "app" should not run inside a browser, it's idiotic and was pushed forward by Google to have their own platform to push software without reliance on any other OS, library or toolkit which they hadn't taken over. What we have now on the web is really Java 2.0 "Only this time it's shittier(TM)"

HTTP stands for hypertext transfer protocol. Not "web application protocol." It's abuse is the real stem of all these problems. Because, no matter how many browser exts you have and firewall rules you add, they'll find ways to track and sell info, as long as the browser's a VM

1. install unGoogled Chromium
2. have sex

> t. Google shill
Chrome is shit but I've asked plenty of people about their choices and usually the reason for chrome is "it works with this website and other browsers dont," "it's faster," "it has better dev tools" etc. It's the same kinda shit Microsoft tried and failed at with Internet Explorer. Microsoft was also playing the friend-of-alphabet-agencies game before Google even existed, and people knew that but didn't care because they needed windows for the same reasons people now need chrome.

Based and redpilled, problem is getting people to organize around building a legit browser from scratch instead of pretty much forking other browsers.

Are you a b*t?
What’s white chocolate + dark chocolate?
Google is a bad company.

where are you seeing this message?

I don't understand how anyone could shill Brave with a straight-face...they are the most dishonest, privacy-tool abusing browser devs I've ever seen.

kek

ungoogled chromium is the only option right now.

Trannyfox has always been SJW, they just push it to the limits of what is acceptable and because the left is pushing the limit so far, mozcucks is going full LGBTQA+

trips of truth

because most of the people aren't retarded and are aware how completely impossible and fruitless is what you're suggesting.
build a new browser engine... my god the Jow Forums these days.

>I don't understand how anyone could shill Brave with a straight-face...they are the most dishonest, privacy-tool abusing browser devs I've ever seen.
Yet they bent over backwards for that dumbfuck who started a Twitter rant after not knowing what the fuck BAT was and how it functioned. Tried to block scripts not even UBlock Origin does, that broke functionality of Twitter and Facebook - and consequently that got reverted. These are the two main "Issues" always brought up.

They didn't fail at all...Chrome still doesn't have the desktop penetration numbers that IE had at it's peak. The only thing that stopped MS EU laws and it's own hubris...and this will be the only thing that stops Chrome (on the desktop at least, there's no stopping them in the mobile-sector).
