You shouldn't, we're full.
Fuck off back to Windows.

you were recently made unemployed

I use both OSes. WSL is pure garbage.

what's WSL?

if you want real answers ask a better question

Why should somebody who is not interested in using his high-end PC as a server install Linux.

self respect

Not him, but Linux is very easy for programming, *nix doesn't get in your way and lets you be productive with the shell no problem.

I would prefer MacOS but their hardware is overpriced and I don't want to fight my OS to run on my hardware

it's a really good os that does a ton of things better than windows and very few things worse. it gives you a completely different relationship with your computer and is much more powerful. you can customize it however you like and it's much faster.
I tried it because I thought it was cool and now I couldn't imagine going back to windows. I am annoyed at having to boot into windows for games but most of the games I play now work on linux so it doesn't matter.
I think you should try installing it and see if it's for you. if you're interested in computers at all you owe it to yourself to figure out why a certain kind of person is so passionate about linux.

See the previous replies

If you're gonna use a botnet, you might as well install Deepin since it's as ridiculously easy to use as any Windows release, the only thing that changes is lesser compatibility with games and instead of the NSA watching your every move, it's Chinese intelligence.

what about WSL 2?
can it be installed on ltsc?

works on my machine

stopped reading right there. Until you give concrete examples, that sentence is just your opinion with no basis in reality.

No ads
No viruses
Having a package manager means easier to program with ( installing libs, compilers)
Sane, human understandable filesystem layout
No integrated ads
No one spying on you
Stable as fuck, Nevers need to reboot
Customisable, everything is more easily automatable
Easier. On RAM and cpu

You just need to adapt a bit.
For instance, You don't install programs from the internet. You do it from the package manager

wsl has key limitations that render it unusable, no hardware support as kernel bridge is slowly implemented, no x86 support so you need more complex setup for compiling and long list of etcetera...

windows doesn't respect your freedoms
WSL1 has terrible io performance
WSL2 has a performance overhead from virtualizing the host OS

>sudo apt install sharex is too hard for windows cuck

for me, its self respect

- relatively slow
- shitty as fuck terminal emulators available. i set up st + 3rdparty xserver just to have something okay-ish.
- cannot mount sshfs or any other fs windows(tm) doesn't support out of the box. devs stated they have no plans implementing it. making it more useless than a mac when it comes to webdev stuff.

it's a meme. you may as well work in a virtualbox window.

it's a meme.

>No ads
>No viruses
>No integrated ads
windows 10 LTSC has none of that shit.

>Having a package manager means easier to program with ( installing libs, compilers)
package managers are cancerous google appstore bootlegs, even worse than google play itself.

>Sane, human understandable filesystem layout
C:\ is your root directory.
from here you have clear locations of installed programs:
>C:\Program Files (x32)
>C:\Program Files (x64)
and if you so wished, you could manually remove any program. You can't do that on Linux.
>C:\users\
from here, the 'home' directory for each user is clear. for example
>C:\users\FAGGOT\
from here you have everything you can find on your shitnux filesystem:
>C:\users\FAGGOT\desktop
>C:\users\FAGGOT\pictures
>C:\users\FAGGOT\videos
>C:\users\FAGGOT\documents
>C:\users\FAGGOT\music
>C:\users\FAGGOT\whatever else you would need
so shut the fuck up retard.

There have been countless anons here who use QEMU + GPU passthrough and their vms go blackscreen all the time, and I quote, "the only way to get them fixed is to restart the host".

You don't need to tho. You won't need the program's approval to uninstall it

Try doing gpu passtrough on windows.

>>Easier. On RAM and cpu
>if your system is a barebones useless pajeetware that you only use for browsing Jow Forums, sure.
You can run the worse bloated desktop environment(kde) and it will run sub 1G

>>For instance, You don't install programs from the internet. You do it from the package manager
>good goy! limit your software selection to whatever those Ubantoo jews push on their appstore!

You can call it an appstore, sure. But i trust a group of lifeless nerds more than google. They will keep my software updated for me and make sure there are no missing dependencies( a problem only an operating system that doesn't have 30 copies of the same runtime would have).

windows is frustrating to use

t.win and linux dual boot

>package managers are cancerous google appstore bootlegs, even worse than google play itself.
the Ubuntu/etc "app store" is just a front end to the package manager, which is an incredibly useful tool
You obviously don't understand, it's ok to admit you lack knowledge.

>Do you really think Bill Gates is looking at every single data they collect and judging your porn usage? take your meds, schizo.

Windows checks the hashes of pictures you have and compares them to a database of cp. I'm not sure if it automatically notifies authorities, but Microsoft knows. Of course, even if you don't indulge in such activities it's still nobody's business what I do on my computer.

>There have been countless anons here who use QEMU + GPU passthrough and their vms go blackscreen all the time, and I quote, "the only way to get them fixed is to restart the host".
niche case, GPU passthrough is becoming irrelevant.

>Powershell, batch scripting, autoit, autohotkey, you name it.
lol, nice toys

>good goy! limit your software selection to whatever those Ubantoo jews push on their appstore!
Install whatever you want, grab a deb. or compile it from source, Ubuntu gives you the tools to install whatever the fuck you want. You just have baby duck syndrome where you can't figure out that things on Linux are different from the 14 years you've been using Wangblows (your whole life).

Your fault for using ubuntu, brainlet

KDE uses less than 400mb ram usage on many distros. you can easily tweak it for even less. I personally use it with absolutely everything installed and its ~900mb. not sure what you're doing that its more bloated than gnome

>package managers are cancerous google appstore bootlegs, even worse than google play itself.
?????
you don't know what is a package manager, right?

"vms"

i tried scripting on windows, shitty experience also imagine having to install a separate program for scripting lol

again you don't know what is a package manager

>replying for the third time on this thread because i'm retarded :D
true, i tried install stock KDE and i installed the minimal package by accident (plasma-desktop) and i was surprised by the low ram/cpu usage, i would totally use this if i'm not running a tiling wm like a retard

because you can use windows on virtual machine and do everything in it, including gaming via pci-passthrough.

>Windows checks the hashes of pictures you have and compares them to a database of cp
fucking source please?

Attached: 1559500239219.png (633x758, 158K)

Windows filesystem layout is cancer. During install I can't even chose if I want my home/User directory on a different drive to not fill up my main drive.

When I want to move it I have to do some obscure GUI shit that will change every new Version on Windows. On Linux it is mount new drive, rsync home to new drive, change fstab, remount everything. Done. Or even better directly chose on install to have it on a different partiton/drive

what's even the point of wsl?

shared libraries go in their respective C:\program files folder. all users on the pc can access them.
>config files
those are a bit more pozzed for windows side because it's a mix between %appdata%\windows\ and registry entries.
but for any other sane program, they just store their config files in %appdata%.
ie:
>%appdata%\Mozilla\
>%appdata%\notepad++\
>%appdata%\atom\
>%appdata%\teamviewer\
and %appdata% is simply short for:
>c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\
so each unique user has its own appdata folder.
I'm not sure if it's possible to have a global appdata folder so all settings are shared for all users, but literally WHO uses different users these days.

>Try doing gpu passtrough on windows.
hyper-v's remoteFX is fast enough for my needs, and it's rock solid.

>lol, nice toys
cope, dilate, have sex

you actually want me to download a (((lightweight))), (((minimal))) distro with no software so I gotta spend 5 hours looking shit up? who cares about (((bloat))) unless you have a stinkpad? Most people have 32gb+ on their main desktops, give me a fucking break

>you don't know what is a package manager, right?
it's a glorified appstore with low software selection, and most of what's there is SHITWARE.

>another example of ???
you can not uninstall a program or a package on linux unless you know exactly where it got installed, which is impossible because it's a dependency hell, you might delete the wrong thing and poz your OS and be forced to reinstall.
the only safe way to uninstall software is through the terminal, and God help you if the program install failed because there's no way you'll know what to delete.

>what are you trying to show here? how shitty windows directories are?
they are intuitive for me, linux's is inferior in my opinion because it's unclear where programs go.

stop using ancient hardware, a 1tb ssd costs less than $60. There are ways to get home dir in other drives though.

Windows Subsystem for Linux

Basically an abomination, the Linux kernel (now, before it was an emulation made by Microsoft) running on Microsoft Wangblows. You can run many text based Linux programs

LINYX IS A KERNEL

How do I get LTSC? Isn't the only way to get it by bootlegging it if you aren't going to waste thousands of $$ on an OS?

okay then. if I were a pedo, I would retract everything I said about linux. But given the circumstances (I'm not a fucking pedophile), I will keep my stance. Linux is literally unusable compared to windows.

Linux is a kernel.

based windows Chad dabbing all over poor freetards

Its not about storage size it is about safety. One drive can fail. Having all your data in one place is always dangerous. I like to have stuff separated, regardless of storage capability.

And it makes things easier when upgrading different hard drives.

warosu.org/g/thread/S71719827

I got it off the torrents on the pastebin, and made sure the file hash matched against the downloaded file. Also looked up that hash and it's been shilled in my digital life, reddit, etc. so it must be legit.
For activation I used mydigitallife.net's KMS38
it activates windows til 2038, you only run it once and never again.

>we collect passwords, password hints and similar security info
Based, I always make my safety question answers "fuckmircosoft"

I dunno man, if you don't swim against the stream and use Linux as it was intended, it is sublimely usable. Not to mention comfy. I haven't booted Wangblows in a while, but then again I have went through phases where I *just* boot Windows, so we'll see if this lasts. I'm loving GNU/Linux though.

Attached: 1395981402139.png (233x244, 86K)

>Windows Subsystem for Linux
Thanks, didn't know the accro

People that are observed behave differently, there is a very real reduction of range of actions,
and I don't mean this to defend pedos, bash their knees with threaded rods and throw them
into a pen of hungry pigs for all I care, but this is a tangible reduction of freedoms too, there
is a very fundamental necessity in a healthy society for privacy. Now take your pedo strawman
and fuck off.

Also:
>muh social credit system in china
>it won't happen here
Where there is a room to take more power literally every. single. government. has done so.

Okay, but what are the chances I'll get hounded by copyrights faggots when I'm from Goymany?

so how was linux intended to be used?

>W10 LTSC
>WSL
Pick one.

0% chance unless you're running dedicated servers/vms and renting them out to customers on a public website and they rat you out to the police.

don't use baby GUI to install programs

search for a program (all commands are Debian/Ubuntu/derivatives specific, Fedora etc have different but similar commands)

apt-cache search programname

You can sort through the output for what you're looking for by piping (|) the output of that command through the program grep to search for a string within the results.

example:

apt-cache search mpd | grep client

Then, when you have the name of the program you want to install

sudo apt install programname

Instead of showing you a stupid progress bar, it will show you exactly what it is doing, what dependencies it is installing, and step by step updates.

Doing stuff through the command line is not only easier on Linux but more efficient. Essentially the whole system is exposed for you to change settings with the command line and scripts.

no reason
go back

Okay, maybe it's time I try this LTSC shit, reason I started getting into linux was because it's a valuable skill and I was really goddamn pissed about uninstallable apps in windows

ITT: Gnucel: the thread

I have linux on my shitty laptop, and LTSC on my main desktop. If you're bored and want to test shit on linux then get on your laptop, but please do not put yourself through the shitfest for your day to day desktop PC. you need something stable and reliable, so use Windows 10 LTSC on it.

Attached: 1536437760663.png (623x515, 117K)

Is it really that unuseable?

>windows 10 LTSC
>stable and reliable
kek

Yes, there is not a single edition of Windows 10 that is usable, and dare SOMETHING go wrong you'll have to go through literal hell to fix it.

>you need something stable and reliable
here's my last week story

>update windows after 2 weeks of the update release and actually ask at the forums of how stable is the new update
>they said pretty good
>update
>fucked up my system and had to rollback to the last update
meanwhile i'm running arch, a fucking rolling release distro that's more stable than windows

no

This

Drop the propaganda for a moment, I dealt with an it expert, and he told me the same thing, but I would like linux to work so badly.
Until now I have made the same experiene, but that't what I get for trying to build a desktop going from a minimal void linux install.

>Drop the propaganda for a moment,
What propaganda? I've many times had to deal with this utter shit of an OS, not just on my hardware, but on others' as well. Windows gets more prone to failure and less fixable with each release. At this point should something happen with your """stable and reliable""" Winshit install - LSTC or not - you're better off just nuking the whole thing altogether and reinstalling from scratch.
LSTC may have no ads, but it has all the other shortcomings of nu-windows intact. Server 2008 was the last good windows system.

if you manage to fuck up a windows LTSC to the point you need to reinstall, stay away from pcs and go back to your smartphone (linux) or your tablet (linux). I haven't gotten a virus since 2006 and I don't have windows defender or antivirus. How do you fuck up Windows so bad you need to reinstall? I'm intrigued.

Attached: 1535728780697.png (640x480, 61K)

Well, it seems to be more of a religion than a tool at this point.
But I get it I think, some users never wander to the use cases where M$ is
unstable and others are perfectly fine with it and then don't want to
put up with the intricacies, or much rather, the differences of linux.
A good example were the mining rigs that I had to set up, windows just wasn't able to handle
this weird configuration as well as linux was, linux was more "hackable"
(and in no way would I ever call myself a hacker in earnest, I'm much too noobish for that, heh).
I think I'll just keep dualbooting and maybe install an SSD into my Tower to put encrypted
veracrypt install of windows on it, then I feel a little safer. ( I know it's paranoia for the most part, but I do it out of principle.)

Thanks for the discussion and the viewpoints.

>You can not uninstall a package on Linux
Get a fucking load of this guy
It's literally "sudo apt remove (package)" you fucking idiot. Why are you arguing about something you know nothing about?

how do you remove a package that failed to install, in a mountain of packages and dependencies? it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Attached: 1535726765139.jpg (597x553, 41K)

>if you manage to fuck up a windows LTSC to the point you need to reinstall
Not need, be better off reinstalling. Learn to read, wintard. Wangblows has way too many issues that you can't fix without reinstalling. It just isn't worth it to put up with them all unless all you ever do is play video games, which is probably your use case seeing how you keep defending that pathetic piece of pajeetware.

i use it for school, 3rd year comp sci.
I use my OS (windows) to get things DONE, while you sit and tweak your OS because it can't do shit.

Attached: Linux xD.png (128x139, 16K)

>unless all you ever do is play video games

Nah, I also had to reinstall LTSC (to 2019) after buying a RTX 2060 because it was incompatible with LTSC 2016

Delete folder

>the only safe way to uninstall software is through the terminal, and God help you if the program install failed because there's no way you'll know what to delete.

is typing text too hard

Are you actually this retarded?

Self respect
But to give a non meme answer
Wsl looks really cool when you use it only lightly, like for git and ssh
But anything more involved will fail miserably
>t. had to use it at work until I got access to a remote linux desktop

But he gave his reasons right after the point you stopped reading... though they are still largely subjective

Attached: 1561640466734.png (1069x917, 584K)

>it's a glorified appstore with low software selection, and most of what's there is SHITWARE.
Literally just apparated all credibility. Genuinely zero understanding of package manager semantics, go back to playing video games

Install LTSC and Simplewall.Windows still phones home hard, even with security level telemetry...

unnecessarily complicated dependency shithole that works like an appstore and does a worse job at it because of apps with the same name. it's unclear which app to download. who wants an appstore in their desktop OS anyways? I sure the fuck don't. Windows 10 LTSC does not have an appstore and it's great. just google whatever I need.
