>SliTaz GNU/Linux is a mini distribution and live CD designed to run speedily on hardware with 256 MB of RAM. SliTaz uses BusyBox, a recent Linux kernel and GNU software. It boots with Syslinux and provides more than 200 Linux commands, the lighttpd web server, SQLite database, rescue tools, IRC client, SSH client and server powered by Dropbear, X window system, JWM (Joe's Window Manager), gFTP, Geany IDE, Mozilla Firefox, AlsaPlayer, GParted, a sound file editor and more. If you're asking if a modern version of Firefox would run on his computer, the answer is no. It's not even just the hardware, it literally won't run on Win2k.
Jayden Brown
no you didn't, because firefox came out in 2004
you used netscape or mozilla
Ian Rogers

linux, its as asthetic as you want it to be
because it is customizable.

oh look, somebody took my photo :)
This one is also from me
Original creator of that pic - yes, up to Firefox 5 for 2000 and KernelEX enabled 9x machines, and Firefox 2.0 for vanilla Windows 9x systems.
Pic related, used to be a K6 machine which ended up being turned into a Pentium 3 Slot 1 machine that now runs WinME build 4.90.2394 Beta 1 and the 2k from the pic you posted in dualboot.
Eli Cruz
NOOOO APPLE HAS THE BEST FONT RENDERING REEEEEEEEEEEEE
Nathan Kelly
That's exactly why GNU/Linux isn't aesthetic. End users have shit taste.
Cameron Campbell
And this is the 2k machine your pic came from.
Long gone, since I dismantled it. Threw away the metallic case frame as the screw holes enlarged to the point where I couldn't close the case properly anymore (it was a crappy ~2003 case) but kept the front panel, the rooftop and sidepanels since the kind of case I used was so damn modular I could just replace the rooftop and panels and turn it black by just unscrewing the white ones and replacing them with black elements.
Regarding the HDDs, these were 2x 10GB drives from upgraded OG Xboxes, and a 40GB Maxtor as a storage drive. Might check what's left on the 40GB Maxtor, but the 10GB drives are currently in use on a Slot 1 build that dualboots Windows 2000 and WinME 4.90.2394 Beta 1 using a custom bootmanager.
I still have the ISA soundcard (in fact, I have qutie a few - a Yamaha OPL3 based card, a Soundblaster 16 and the one pictured in there, an Analogic Devices AD1846 soundcard) but it hasn't seen much use than serving once as a CD-ROM controller for a 486 I have that currently has no CD drive.
GPU was a FX5200, which I still have (not sure if it still works), and the NIC was some Intel based card that I'm not sure if I still have.
And finally, yes, I still have the motherboard, as well as the CPU. LuckyStar 6VA694+ if you want to mash it on Google.

>NeXTSTEP. Nothing else even comes close.
Bullshit.
You can make FVWM look exactly like NeXTShit. You can make FVWM mimic any DE.
Attached to this post is one FVWM screenshot from 2004. I will link two more screenshots also from 2004 to this post.
This is where I got these screenshots from:

I've never seen this before. It's really, really aesthetic.
Adrian Murphy
you can make FVWM look like anything else, it's just a hideous pain in the ass, especially since FVWM has some absolutely retarded behavior for some spots
might as well just use WindowMaker
Connor Howard
Undeniably looks better than it does now.

C64 GEOS is surprisingly nice looking.
Unfortunately, it's absurdly slow. It's a technical marvel, but it's still dog slow.

9x/2000 os were best. Back when "function" ruled over all. Shit made sense. Win 7 is a close 3rd. Now? shit's all about "look at me and see how pretty I look" and "let's see how many layers deep you gotta drill to you get to the settings"
9x/2000 - hit control panel/device manger/admin settings. done.
Ten/Vista (some extent 7) - uh where is screen resolution setting again? oh yeah under 7 sub menus and other shit.
The funny part is - the shit you do regularly has not changed much today from back then. Still use office/internet/oulook/game/etc. Yet shit's gotten so bloated and just plain cluster fucked that it takes longer to do a lot of shit now. Hey you MS assholes, you want a simple GUI, you should've just reused the one from NT 2000 in windows Ten. Saved a lot of trouble and time.

Ah, but consider ricing a modern *nix wm to replicate it.
