the reason these threads are so common is it's the only thing linux users can actually do with their useless OS

OP's server has been up for two years and is running on an ancient processor. Windows Server can definitely NOT do either of those things.

uptime is really nothing more than a certificate of wasted electricity on a home server and that Athlon II is more than powerful enough for anything he'd want to throw on it, CentOS can be a pretty bloated mess as well

Some based stuff there, user.

step aside plebeian, here's the real UPSTREAM kernel

does your system/home network break if they don't run continuously or something?

Not him, but I've got a Nextcloud server that takes care of me, my wife, and two kids.
So yeah, uptime can be a very big deal depending on your use-case.
Web servers
Database servers
Any kind of servers
Availability and reliability are a big deal.

linux fags dunked on hard

here's my desktop/main PC screenfetch

Still on Antergos eh?
Keep the faith user!

Sure, I feel you. But is your family going to be seriously at risk if your cloud server goes down once in a blue moon to install updates or due to power outage/network problems? Are you going to go bankrupt if your personal website goes down for an hour in the middle of the night? Probably not. You obviously don’t want a system that’s constantly going down for stupid reasons, but people obsessing over multi-year uptimes on home servers is just silly.

Any of the Big Three operating systems will give you acceptable performance for such a task, if you know how to work with them.

if it's your primary desktop, I'd argue that those are usually better served just catching up in the background at boot-time. That said, I don't know anyone who'd use CentOS for a primary desktop (also it seems unlikely here given that RAM usage and package count)
