Got my Raspberry Pi 4b all setup

Full home server replacement.
Runs a gigabit samba server with a redundant drive that syncs every night with the main one.
Can transfer large files at 110MB/s consistently.
Also runs sabnzbd, sickbeard, and local media server
Have big screen above it, works very well for browsing the web also. Can handle anything you throw it it web wise.

Is that the 4 gig model?

looks like something your uncle would have in his house haha

2gig

What is ur local media server ? Plex ?

when I move into my next place I think I'll use a pi as my torrent server

nah, just a simple apache I custom setup to my liking. Haven't used plex.

Wow that is awesome. My Pi lives in lego case.

haha yeah, what are those tubey things

I like that, its crafty. The case I got was $10 on amazon which included the fan.

isn't that overkill for a file server though

t. zoomer pissed this raspberry pi does more than his $3000 bigtower i9 desktop.

how? Seems well suited to me.

as in way more processing speed and ram than is required, so higher power consumption

it also works for web browsing, but it certainly is not a power hog, quite the opposite actually.

$2 6502 boards when

Whee Lad you dun goofed.

Cringe

Why not just use an actual computer? Is this nu-Jow Forums?

Yea this. Why not just buy a surplus dell i7 for a few bucks on ebay

OP here, I own 3 surplus Optiplexes. I have quite a lot of computers on the whole, probably more than anyone here, and I have access to hundreds more. If you cannot comprehend the benefit of this particular machine, then no worries. Stick to your incel and amd machines.

because we pay our own electricity bills and don't have unlimited space and don't want to waste money on an i7 that is going to sit close to idle the entire time you faggot zoomer

What's the heat like from it? Do you need a heatsink?

Hey OP, what distro do you use and software on the Pi? I am thinking of getting one for my file server.

there's heatsinks plus a tiny fan in the photo

Ok but how did you fit the entire thing in your gay asshole?

Can you drop your hardware list man? I can handle the setup but I'm a potato when it comes to shopping for components

What kind of stupid are these? I can usually find them in kindergarten. Please sauce.

Pi's come with a heatsink
Mine usually runs at 55c

>does more
What, exactly, does it do that said desktop can't?

cute :3

The point is that the zoomer is using his big masturbatory rig to brows Jow Forums and watch porn and nothing else. Complete waste.

odroid xu4 could do that long time ago

you should get some heat sinks and a fan like in op pic. Will idle at around 47C if you do. Wont end up throttling either. If you don't have any cooling and use a fully enclosed case, it will pretty much run at 80C just on idle. It throttles at around 85C.

Got the basic kit from canakit which includes an adapter and heat sinks. The case with fan is a $10 geekpi case off amazon. The HDMI also amazon. The hard drive enclosures are Orico. Also very cheap. However the Orico 3.5" bay is shit. The best 3.5" external enclosure I've seen is from insignia, which you can get at best buy. But I took mine back and bought the cheap orico one... kind of regretting that. However the Orico one supports that scsi over usb standard and the insignia does not. Don't think it made any difference tho.

Okay.

Thanks for replying man big help

No problem. If you use yours as a NAS, make sure you format your drives to ext4 and not NTFS or ext3. Other formats will be too slow for the pi to give full gigabit transfers.

Too slow, I'd rather use a core i7 4770K

>ordered one a week ago
>only one store had them in stock
>few days later i learned that store is in the UK (but was listed as a US reseller)
>shipment won't arrive for another week and a half

Do you still need to use an SD card as the HD? They're pretty unreliable. Is there a way to use SATA?

there is a way to boot off usb but I havent tried. You can get the info at the pi forum

worst part if i had waited 3 days for the other stores to restock and ordered it from there i would probably be getting it soon.

'ate okdo
'ate the brits
simple as

Looks neat and all, but I still would rather use a Synology or QNAP for this purpose.
