Want help? >State budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming >R3 2200G - Light 30-60fps gaming(dGPU optional). >R5 2600 - Good 60fps+ gaming CPU; great value >R5 3600 - midrange; good for all but the absolute highest end GPUs >R9 3900X/3950X - High end; highest FPS
>Intel CPUs are now defunct. Even used i7 workstations are no longer worthwhile due to vulnerabilities and related performance regression
RAM: >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks is the only recommendation for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 minimum >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660 - higher fps or for more demanding games >RX 5700 - high framerates (requires complementary CPU and monitor) 1440p >RX 5700 - 75-100fps+ in most games >RX 5700 XT - Higher framerates >2080ti - Highest possible frames, but poor value 2160p (4K) >5700 XT Overclocked - budget option >RTX 2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive OpenGL on Windows >Nvidia
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING imgur.com/a/RTbKAxD >AM4 VRM listing: imgur.com/a/U6QXBbh >Yes, adaptive sync (freesync) is important >A 256GB+ SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >NVMe do not give faster boot/load times than a fast SATA SSD >"Bottleneck checker" sites don't work >Don't use Speccy
Less than 30 min before AMD shills collectively commit suicide.

B550 mobos where?
Jeremiah Perez
If I get a Ryzen 3600 and a B450M mobo, will it just work or will I need an older Ryzen to update the mobo BIOS before it will work?
Aaron Evans
repost from last thread need some advice, guys >dad asked me to make him a new home pc since the one he has now is dying >I thought about link related >pcpartpicker.com/list/pPYxXP he just uses it to manage his bank account on the bank website, scan some shit and check mail I think I'm getting him an M.2 storage cause he always complains about files loading slowly, this way I'm sure he'll never complain about it again pic related is his current PC additional info: at first that PC was bought and used for audio recording since it was my brother's, and he used to be a singer my dad wishes for him to go back at singing so the PC has to be able to deal with multitrack audio recording, eventually about the fa, I planned to use the stock one coming with the CPU, I don't think the average use of that PC will lead to high temps >the mobo I have to admit I've been out of the loop for a while so I asked a friend of mine and he suggested that one since it supports NVMe, is mini ITX and has integrated Wi-Fi if you have any less overkill alternative, please do suggest thoughts?
It will not work. If you get a motherboard with bios flashback you can update without a cpu. MSI has several of them even at lower price points.

bumping from previous thread I have a Corsair GS600 600w psu. I'm currently sitting on i5 760 and r7 370, I've tested 100% load on cpu with heavy load and 100% gpu load with furmark running together. Attaching the power meter, my max power values are at 285watts. On idle i have around 120 watts, 150-60watts with 100% cpu load. I think the psus efficiency is 85% but it's from 2012 and I couldn't find reliable info so for safety let's say it's 75%. I have possibility as I mentioned few days before to buy unused msi ventus 2080 OC for 600 euros. I'd like to buy it in the next 2 weeks and build a new pc during august, will the psu withstand the 2080 if I put it in? I don't intend to run it on 100% but I don't want to fry mobo/psu/gpu if possible.
m.2's an extreme answer to slow loading since SSDs are way faster than HDDs for loading but sure for audio recording consider getting an audio interface or a sound card b450 is okay, but mini ITX shouldn't be a choice unless you want to build in a smallform case you'll want to get 16GB of memory, RAM is relatively cheap now so do yourself a favor and get at least that much. Two sticks of 8GB is ideal.
mate, did you even look at my build? >2400G with integrated graphics >EVGA B3 bronze honestly, all the mobos on amazon list around that price (80 to 120€) so it really doesn't make that much of a difference besides >hey dad I might have found a possible build for your PC >cool user, how much? >about 600€ >only? well don't be stingy, buy good stuff though I don't want to buy stuff he doesn't really need my brother already has an audio interface so that's covered, and as I said it's just a possibility (a remote one, shall I add) that he goes back at using that PC for recording, so if needed be, I'll buy another 8GB stick, until then, a single stick will do >mini ITX mom's always complaining that dad's studio is a mess and a pain in the ass to clean, so I'm aiming at buying something that's not unnecessarily big
Xavier Evans
IT'S UP
So what are the fucking dimensions of the 5700 cards? I can't find any information anywhere, all I know is at least one 5700XT is 270mm long
you're probably better off offering to clean that up with him rather than do this then, mini ITX isn't fun to build in you don't really need an m.2 if you ask me, that belongs in a much better system, use that money on getting the 16GB of memory and a larger size SSD instead.
That chart is misleading since Intel does way better in minimums, which is more important for immersion. Yet they only count on averages. In reality, the differential is significantly wider.

pcie4.0 is the only reason to pick up x570

help a retard out
John Gray
Fucking AMD shills made me return my 9900k for nothing.
Connor Flores
Also better vrms for 3900x and 3950x
Ian Flores
The minimums are actually better on amd you fucking retard.
James Reed
>Here’s the thing: while AMD does still lag behind Intel in gaming performance, the gap has narrowed immensely to the point that the Ryzen CPUs are no longer something to be dismissed if you want to have a high-end gaming machine, and are still very much a viable option worth considering.
Pretty much what we've been expecting for months.
Christian Baker
On initial look, the R7 3700x seems like a really good sweet spot. But something must be fucky if the R9 3900x isn't performing much better than it.
Christopher Davis
Unless you were gaming at 1080p you did yourself a favor
Luis Torres
no 3800x review
Nathaniel Ortiz
For gaming, why would it?
95% of games simply don't need 24 threads.
Hell, most games don't even use more than 8 threads.
>3900x can only OC to 4Ghz >advertised boost is 4.6 PFFAHAHAHAJ
David White
Yeah you stupid nigger, can't you read? Are you really gaming at 720p and medium settings? If you are then it figures you would be stupid enough to buy intel in the first place
>4 more frames for almost $200 more dollars THANK YOU BASED INTEL
How does it work, are B450 boards compatible with a Ryzen 5 3600 now or do they need a bios update or is a specific revision of the board needed? There's no B550 it seems.
Matthew Perez
oh boy, these are clocking around 4.3ghz? what a pointless waste of time zen 2 is if you already have zen+.
Levi Green
All right, so if I want to go cheaper, does any X470 or B450 board exists for a 3700X that offers no-CPU flashable BIOS, and 8 SATA ports? It's always one or the other, unless I missed a motherboard offering both of those. Or I could use a SATA pci expansion card, but those usually sucks balls
Caleb Perez
Gj, amdiots. 3600 still lose 9400f in games.
Caleb Thompson
Asrock is always good though.
Jace Wood
you update the bios, b550 is due in 3-6 months. there's X470 Gaming M7 AC and ROG Crosshair VII Hero
Lincoln Davis
>5700xt not as disapointing as expected as someone that has 0 use for raytracing its kinda appealing, especially with it being nearly 200aud less than a 2070s
Hudson Fisher
Question:
I'm planning to get 3700x and the motherboard is going to be "AORUS AMD Ryzen X470 Ultra Gaming AM4 ATX" since it's cheap. PCPartsPicker says I might need a CPU to update the bios to support Zen2, anyone know if I can just stick a USB stick in the motherboard and update it without a CPU?
hell, at 4k the 9400f beats the 3900x and basically ties the 3700x
David Bennett
>are B450 boards compatible with a Ryzen 5 3600 now Yes, as long as you updated your bios within the last month or so.
>There's no B550 it seems 2020 for sure, I'm guessing summer.
Easton Lopez
>you update the bios, b550 is due in 3-6 months. >as long as you updated your bios within the last month or so.
It'd be a new system for a friend, there's no spare CPU to update it through. So I might need to get him one which can flash the bios without a cpu or wait a few months. Damnit.
Mason Gonzalez
how does the performance of a gpu suffers with a second monitor? I have 2 1080p and thinking about getting a new card but qould a card that gets good results on one 1080p suffice? Or would a card aimed for 1440p be better?
I'm looking at x570 taichi or msi MPG Gaming Edge Wifi.
Carter Green
yes
Tyler Murphy
You have to look up the MB to see if it has the capability. This itx Gigabyte X570 I have up states it has the capability without needing anything but that's x570.
Asher Hughes
Local market is selling the new ryzen at exact MSRP, so I think I'm getting myself a 3700X. Currently I'm using a cheap Prime B350M-A board with 2133 ram, so I think getting a new rig would be worth it. Please recommend me a good MB for 3700, also please recommend ram and PSU if I'm also pairing it with 2070S.
Jeremiah Phillips
Yes, something like that. I'll investigate if I can find something like this in microATX size.
Carter Hughes
AMD loaned out CPUs as "boot kits" when this happened for Ryzen 2000, but I haven't heard anything about them doing that now. If you wait a bit, AMD might address this and do it again.
Michael Brown
>sweclockers
Owen Anderson
While having another monitor plugged in DOES effect performance, it's generally a percentage or two, not anything significant.
No reason to buy a more powerful card in my opinion JUST because you have a 2nd monitor plugged in.
Brody Nelson
Do I sell my i7 7700k and go for a new Amd 3900X build?
Colton Myers
People were saying the 3600 would beat the 9900k in threads on here the past week.
