Got my Raspberry Pi 4 today.

..........now what?

Install Gentoo
I use Arch btw

Dust holder

>"...spend money on shit they don't need..."

sounds familiar

build server / web server / bot

Donate it to a child that wants to learn about computers but can't afford one.

children don't care about computers, they only want ipads and fortnite

install a heatspreader

Right up your bum.

Shove it up your ass

I have one coming from China.

Some do care about Minecraft and the RPi4 makes a nice custom server learning tool.

Play room for 5 minutes then turn it into a chrome cast to sometimes watch porn on a 65" 4k TV.

Imagine you're not a programmer or at least some sort of IT enthusiast and you just go out and buy a Pi because you think it's the thing to do. What the fuck

Update it. Both the OS and the firmware. Get a fan cooler and overclock.
It can go up to 2ghz now. 500mhz boost in clock speed from the base 1.5ghz.

Firmware is part of the OS packages. It upgrades automatically when you do a full update.

put it on the shelf where it will stay until the next pi release

The kids who cared about minecraft are in the 16-25 range by now, so most of them can afford a computer. Not that they care about minecraft that much anymore...

Try to use it as a desktop PC. See what limitations it has, what workarounds exist for those limitations, explore the available software, try to see what games you can play, try making a script for minecraft pi edition, look at some of the different OS distributions, compile some packages and install them that way. If you don't already know GNU/Linux well this would be a good opportunity to learn all about it. Just treat it like a fun sandbox where it doesn't matter if you break it.

Actually do try to use it for webbrowsing, watching videos, etc.
Do report back with results.
This doesn't apply if you bought the shitty 1GB model; Don't even bother with that one.

Make it print out nigger.

Until you find out: Pi-hole.

* Install kodi on it
* pi hole
* server
Etc

make sure you have proper cable because the early batch of pi 4s isnt up to usb c specs. haha

will people post this meme for as long as there are Pis?

Cool, I can get my Pi powered through a regular phone powerbank. It stays on even if I put the Pi through a benchmark. Only issue is that the Pi will reboot itself whenever I start/stop charging the powerbank, but that's not a big problem if you run the pi headless.

Attached: IMG_20190712_173901.jpg (3000x4000, 3.86M)

Well, buy all the accesories goy!

what powerbank is that?

These raspberry pi threads should result in a ban

It's a 10,000 mAh Mi Powerbank (2, I guess? It's several years old and they probably have newer models).

Build an openVPN server or a dns pi-hole. Literally the only two good uses for a RasPi. Or you could install mint and create a non-sudo user for your boomer father and install LibreOffice and Firefox on it and have it be a perfectly fine desktop. Just make sure you don’t buy wireless mice/keyboards because boomers can’t figure out how to change batteries. Sign them into their gmail. Also, map the printers yourself so you don’t need to worry about that ever again.

It will literally last for decades. My dad just looks up recipes and song lyrics and types up letters and checks Facebook. He doesn’t need anything else.

based

That’s a great fucking idea.

Insert in pooper

I ordered one to replace my Steam Link.
It'll get its use as a glorified media center and local game streaming.

Sadly...
Fortnite is a cancer to kids
Apple is a cancer for women and fags

> brat starts to cry
Buuuuuuuuttttt!!! minecraft doesn't have lootboxes and retarded dance animations like Fortnite!

minecraft has everything with enough mods

so fortnite and apple are fine for adult hetero men?

Dilate

Put it in the drawer and forget about it, that will happen either way.
Did you really bought something first without knowing if you need it?

The best part is that they pretty much can’t get viruses and they also never need to be updated. Sometimes, once every 6 months or so, I’ll log in and sudo apt-get update and make sure everything works and then reboot and it takes me about 2 minutes and I probably don’t even need to do it anyway

does the rpi4 support wake on lan (to itself) now since it's no longer on a usb connection?

No! They turn you into gaybrats!

Go tell a kid that...
"buuuuut fortnite ALREADY has it!"

mine, serving as webserver, temperature and UPS state logger, and dnscrypt/dnsmasq server has been doing so for about 3 years.

>buying the flawed version of the Raspberry Pi 4
You fucked up OP.

Make a seedbox/NAS

Oh no... how could this happen to me...

Try dilating your anus with it and write some Rust.

>kids actually complaining about new games while defending fucking minecraft
THE ABSOLUTE STATE OF RASPBERRY PI USERS

If you're asking for advice on what to do with a PI, you shouldn't have picked it up.

I agree, one doesn't just buy a Raspberry Pi without some idea of what to do with it.
I consider a Pi as a component of a system, with a clear purpose. I wouldn't go around ordering electronic parts and go "now what do I do with that thermal sensors?"

Torrent server
Mumble server
Nextcloud server
Slap it on an old printer and make it 'wifi certified'
You have as many options as imagination

feels bad

Throw out your Intel backdoored kosher computer and enjoy!

Install kodi

It makes a nice shelf ornament

Well it technically is. But it is the wrong spec. It is wired as if it was an audio device.

>Got my Raspberry Pi 4 today.

>..........now what?
95% of raspberry pi buyers right here.
Oh my god it's so cheap I'll buy it and figure out a use for it later. Then it sits in a drawer but it was so cheap anyway.

Underclock it so it doesn't overheat and draw more power than 3B+. Buy a fan and heatsinks.

>Mi
Enjoy your chinese malware.

I think the powerbank would be the least of my problems then. I'm already using a Xiaomi phone and tablet among other things.

you feel bad? I am 39 yo and still posting memes about a cartoon frog and remember the good ol' days of having to load programs from cassettes

And now your pi is infected too.

malware in a powerbank.... yep...
I'd be more concerned about it overheating...

With what? Yellow fever?

there is a firmware update that fixed this

Do we even have new benchmarks for the USB fix?

It could just manipulate the volatile memory by modulating the voltage, brainlet.

This

fucking kek

>mAh

Just why? Because it sounds 2.0000 x better.

Its 10 Ah.

Don't. Minecraft is now a nostalgia game so everyone's getting back into it

rtl-sdr and host the output on the web

Is there really a point? I thought the web was already oversaturated with those. I don't even have a decent antenna.

Lern to code

Get rid of stupid gaymen PC and use it as a replacement. Save the planet and save energy!

Use it to broadcast anti-government propaganda or get something useful like RPi0

>turn it into a chrome cast
How is that possible?

Not OP here, just tried the "Pi 4 as desktop replacement" meme.

>The desktop and office apps are usable, although at 4K they start lagging a bit
>Boots in less than 30 seconds
>Videos play

However
>Browser video playback is still software-only, cannot play even 360p in fullscreen
>The more bloated web pages (ie youtube) lag when rendering, up to several seconds at 4K
>Non-English localizations might as well not exist and something as basic as adding a second keyboard layout is a PITA
>The latest Raspbian image for some reason sets / to read-only on every reboot and breaks itself

In general, it feels pretty sluggish and half-baked, even an ancient shitty AMD E-350 board I have lying around feels snappier. Would not recommend as DTR even if you're a poorfag.

>bloated web pages (ie youtube) lag
Use invidio.us, disable 3rd party js in uBlock Origin
>Raspbian image...
they moved to a different version of debian. Their software isn't sorted out yet, it will be in a few months.

Good to hear, I was wary about making the switch to something that would be sluggish if they're were better options

They will fix it in their next batch.. right? Or I'll be going for a Rock64 instead

Attached: 1.jpg (206x212, 6K)

Well, it IS usable as a desktop computer in a pinch unlike the previous Pi boards, but if tiny size and low power aren't too critical, a used x86 ITX board with a more mature distro is a better choice for the price. (It won't output 4K, much less to 2 monitors at once, but at this level of price and performance that's hardly a big concern)

put kodi on it.

There's hardly anything to fix. The current board works just fine with any USB-C cable that people use to charge their phones. e-marked cables that are used to power laptops, etc. might not work, but they're less common.

insert it up youre anuse

Have they fixed the USB throughput problem?
Is the Ethernet port still on a USB hub shared with the rest of the USB ports?

XMPP server
Tor relais

Hosting your own website

So the only use for the USB-C port is to power it? Like, you can't connect anything to it and you have to make sure you're not using an e-marked cable?

Can I use the IHS from de-lidding an old Xeon?

Attached: xeon X5690 delid.jpg (1280x720, 83K)

Yes, they have separate ports for GbE and USB3 now, so you get full throughput.

>So the only use for the USB-C port is to power it?
As far as I know, yes. Use the USB3 ports for external drives.

The power port on Pi has always worked this way. They just replaced microUSB with USB-C because Pi 4 has higher power requirements and microUSB ports tend to set themselves on fire at 3A.

is jellyfin really viable if transcoding is needed? does it have any gpu encoding?

Only for
