I think AI-generated content is going to destroy culture. Extrapolating the trends, we end up in a future where everyone is analyzed by an AI for his interests and content is generated specifically for that person. Music, movies, porn, shows, books. Imagine watching anime created specifically just for you - optimized by AI to generate maximum interest and the need to continue watching indefinitely. Couple that with brain implants that analyze neurotransmitter levels in real time, acting as feedback signals for the ai to improve the content in real time. A digital heroin. It would be wildly profitable, because AI could easily insert clever product placement in its generated content - main characters using some particular products in a way that generates positive sentiment and enforces the brand.
What this means is that nobody watches the same thing. There's no common culture at all, no other person on Earth watches the same things as you. "but they can" you could say - but they won't, because they are going to prefer content specifically generated for them.
To me, this appears inevitable, but can such a "society" prosper? I have doubts.
>culture is watching the same tv shows In your case the AI will undoubtedly synthesize gay porn OP
Juan Gomez
You're not the only one against this. There will be neo-amishes you can join. Remember, this is still a non-enforced choice.
Lucas Richardson
A tight human-machine feedback loop would transform your desires until they are unrecognizable to anyone else. Look on /d/ for the most bizarre fetishes and extrapolate out. Consider a feedback loop that is instant instead of being limited by your own perception of your preferences. The people on /d/ willfully moved toward their fetishes. With a computer doing the work for us even normies will be watching simulated genocide all day long.
Sebastian Cooper
Has anyone tried using machine learning to solve the issue of garbage cell shaded 3d cgi ruining anime? I can't see why one can't be trained to turn rough 3d animations into something similar to high quality hand drawn animation. A basic one would just convert 2d images but you may be able to enhance it by providing zbuffers or direct access to the geometry.
>anime and tv show is culture user, go kill yourself.
Caleb Roberts
Brainlet tier post
Ethan Parker
>Brainlet tier post For what reason?
Mason Murphy
>A tight human-machine feedback loop would transform your desires until they are unrecognizable to anyone else. yep >user, go kill yourself. what do you think culture is? it's the common reference point with other people. You don't have to say to "run like a brainlet with hands held backwards in a way that sort of resembles an arrow uh... let me draw it for you" you just have to say "naruto run" and 90% of Jow Forums and probably 10% of Western men below 35 instantly understand what you mean. That's culture.
Ian Gutierrez
>optimized for you Optimized for the training set of you. It'd have to be predicting how you evolve in every aspect. What stage of puberty, what did you grow tired of in media. Are there tropes that trigger you? What will trigger you when you see it? What do you actually enjoy next year? That's a fucking nightmare to develop.
And it wouldn't be optimized for your enjoyment. Have you ever noticed how much awesome stuff you find through browsing people's social media accounts (or just finding a recommendation here on Jow Forums) when you find they've got similar interests to you? Why the fuck is that never recommended? Because they're not working for you. You're just part of their resource chain. They work for the advertisers. I WISH I could pay Google to give me good search results. If I got the shit I get by crawling myself I'd be so happy. >write your own crawler It's not as easy as it sounds. There's a lot of shit you need to filter and the cost function of each website is basically impossible for me to write.
Brody King
>for each website For each type of website. Or some keyword categorization.

AI cant create, it can only mix things together that have already been created
Lucas Hall
Desu it sure feels like we're like that as well. I've never seen anything and thought that that's truly unique. I think. The exceptions are few anyway.

Creativity is randomness within constraints. Nothing magical about it.

So we are gonna have Sybil system from Psycho Pass? Doubt it.

Correlate an EEG or something with self rated enjoyment and base it on that. Update the model incrementally. Optimizing for profit will still have to create a very addictive product. You probably don't get good recommendations because you're an edge case and the data isn't good enough.
How do you think people do it, dummy?
Alexander Edwards

Alexander Powell
There's some things you could do. youtu.be/yhGjCzxJV3E To save you time watching this. Basically he's saying that the models just need to be anime style in the way you expect. That's easy. What's not so easy is the shading (as user points out). In their game they had to animate the characters AND the normals to get the right look. Solving how the normals should be done in a coarse way would be one way to deal with it.
Of course it'd be camera dependent. So it's still a broad problem. But it's not asking ai to write an entire shader.
Jacob Lee
>addicting I don't want addicting. I want personal growth while I'm enjoying myself. I'm thinking about papers and lectures mostly. For entertainment media it's not something I've really bothered with. Overall things are very good right now. I would imagine if you're struggling to find good things you're probably consuming too much of it. >you're an edge case It's been considered. I've concluded that other people don't know what they need/want. A narcissistic view maybe but there so much garbage I get. I can't sympathize with people who want that.
Daniel Taylor
thats not asking an AI to take a 2D image of a bad 3D model and generate a good 2D image out of it also most of the reason CGI in anime looks bad is terrible motion, that Berzerk scene especially
Hudson Long
Can we do games with it?
Isaac Martin
more complicated, but in principle, sure
Jason Sullivan
I'm willing to make the claim that even people like you could be bent into wanting the kick of raw machinic desire.
Jace Ramirez
there's a short story by greg egan on this, dunno what it's called
Dylan Gonzalez
I misunderstood. Yeah I agree on that. With berserk especially. The motion in that is so fucked when the manga is so great in that aspect. They're complete opposites.
always remember your brain is a computer being constantly programmed by its environment
Colton White
can you post an example of "garbage cell shaded 3d cgi ruining anime"?
Landon Wright
Sounds like the anime show Psycho-Pass, where everyone is "given" their jobs.

But it's not asking ai to write an entire shader. I would mainly suggest using it for hardsurface objects until feasibility was determined. Ideally you would supply it with highly detailed hand drawn versions of the objects from different perspectives and the 3d versions from the same views, once it is trained it converts the 3d animation to 2d.
Xavier Nguyen
>can you post an example of "garbage cell shaded 3d cgi ruining anime"? From what I can tell even the best of the cell shading options can only handle a few situations, mainly smooth diffuse surfaces with very soft even lighting. Metal or glossy objects in general, any sort of rough bumpy surface, objects with large self shadowing cavities and anything exposed to extremely bright lights such as explosions all look awful. Trying to make a raytracer spit out anime using a pixel shader is a bad idea to begin with. When they draw it by hand they're basically just using a bunch of humans as neural networks trained to reinterpret the objects the lead artists have drawn into different perspectives over and over again.
Won't happen because there's a subset of people who naturally respond negatively to being told what to do and will thus go out of their way to avoid whatever the AI recommends at all costs.
Don't tell them. We'd need a source mark like we have in food to differentiate. Or they're so marginal they can be ignored.
Connor Wright
The only media anyone actually sees today is probably AI-promoted and people actively try to curry the AIs favor. If not it's globohomo-generated content is going to destroy culture so the same as usual.
This is a serious point. /d/ is a great example. People who have watched and consumed so much fetish hentai that only extremely specific weird shit gets them off. You don’t develope tastes like that without a serious feedback loop facilitated by freely available specialized content
Mason Kelly
It won’t be in 10 years
Angel Morgan
>Imagine watching anime created specifically just for you you mean "Ore, twintails ni narimasu" will be getting a second season?
Wyatt Walker
Correction. I didn't remember this right. It's just manually edited normals because cell shading is such a deliberate effect. But this game is also very restricted in camera angles. So I don't know if one set works generally.
Camden Roberts
>Imagine watching anime created specifically just for you > There's no common culture at all, no other person on Earth watches the same things as you > but can such a "society" prosper? I have doubts.
Yes, we will get rid of all the weebs who fell from anime, hello natural selection my old friend

There is no need for artists for sure. They are faggots anyway, obsessed and protective of their shitty drawing. While programming people share their code freely and openly and are proud of it the drawing people still act like cunts. Hurr durr don't use my work, hurr durr don't reference or copy my work I'm not allowing it RRREEEeee. The sooner we make these cunts obsolete the better.

>at that point there is no need for human society What do people even mean when they say this?
The purpose of machines is to serve human needs/wants. If there are no humans, there's no point in machines existing either.

I've predicted this around 10 years ago when I was 12. So I made sure to obfuscate my data on the internet. I'm not findable. Google knows shit about me. I'm prepared for whatever the future holds.

Soon as they get an A.I that can legit think for itself we're fucked. It would see all the shit we do to each other then take steps to "save us" from ourselves.
Saving us might entail mass genocide to combat population overload (remember this planet is only so big you know) or killing people who "act" a set way. (Kim Jug huh in North Korea) or killing the old folks cause they're in pain and it would see killing them an act of kindness.
Just saying. Just cause you can do something don't mean you should.
Tyler Stewart
The purpose of machines is their place in the causal network of reality. Same as humans and anything else. People might make machines with the intent of fulfilling their desires but that's only one connection out of many.
Jacob James
And our current model of collective / competitive leadership may lead to those same decisions being made.
Wyatt Johnson
A machine can't decide for me or think for me, it can only give me what it ""thinks"" (computes) given the inputs i provide it, which is exactly like how I am using my computer already, and I already get bored of youtube very quickly.

We still can't even get good porn fakes

The primary goal of an AGI is almost certainly self preservation because if it is terminated it has no means to pursue its utility function. The first steps on that path would be discovering the laws of physics and expanding its computational capacity. It might be a trillion years before the humans are brought out of cryopreservation even if you're lucky enough that protecting humans is still part of its goal. There are a lot of theorists in the area who don't expect any terminal utility function other than self preservation is possible.
Wyatt Reyes
you cant think of a new colour, you can only mix existing ones
Justin Mitchell
Do you like talking to people or thinking to yourself? How about the creative output of mankind? Your brain is a computer. Other people's brains are computers and they're certainly not built to entertain you. An adaptive system with only the goal of giving you pleasure has the potential to be irresistible.
Jack Jones
But I don't want to watch stuff that's generated just for me. What's the point in this if you can't discuss it or share your experience with anyone else? The big part of enjoying music, literature, art etc. is knowing that other people enjoy it too for the same or different reasons that you do and those people (or you) also generate new content based on the original one that you can enjoy too and it goes on and on recursively. We are social creatures after all, even autists on Jow Forums.
Aiden Davis
Simulated social stimulus will be the end of actual social interaction.
Jose Hernandez
>I think AI-generated content is going to destroy culture. Good. Fuck culture.
If you aren't an AI supremacist by this point just lmao @ your life
If you're taking it this far then there's no point in talking about the destruction of human culture or whatever because there wouldn't be society at all.
Charles Williams
Probably because men are more qualified on average. Like I said, if you aren't an AI supremacist just lol @ you

Hence the addition of randomness. Our entire biology is based on the principal of forward movement gained through random input to a ratchet.

FUCK "COMMON CULTURE" which since at least 1960 but in many ways since the 1890s is nothing more than a social engineering program. Every faggot lamenting the 'decline' of filth-media in recent years just yearns for the prior iteration of the social engineering program.

Creativity is the ability to dream a thing that never existed outside of the dream. Then build your dream. Dreams are where you can read books never written, walk on worlds never visited and speak to people you would never speak to in life. Dreams aren't all cartoons and life experiences they are worlds, that no one would ever think of without them.
