It is that simple, but those three seemingly narrow topics are a lot deeper than you understand, so if you do try the cheap and dirty method you are always going to have to accept the fact that any decent interviewer is going to find one of the (many) holes in your knowledge and view you as a fraud. Which, word getting around very quickly in desirable tech companies, means your long term chances of gainful employment are slim to none.

It's honestly not that hard to get a programming job though, even if you're a karlie kloss code bootcamp lentil lad who learned how to code from their iPad, as long as you have a good GitHub with useful programs and pull requests and things that show you can contribute to other people's code, that already puts you ahead of most spergs who expect the interviewer to just hand them a job without even seeing if they know how to do Hello World.

Most companies don't take priority on your github. Or if they do, they also verify that you're legit with a whiteboard. Either way, fags here complaining about a whiteboard deserve to be lumped in with pajeets.

GitHub was actually the one thing my company checked for above all, and whiteboard questions are reserved for people with more bare GitHubs. It varies with every company though, obviously

I know Amazon *may* look at your resume, depending on the hiring manager. Only reason I know this is because I know a senior (basically my aunt's neighbor's son) there and he explicitly told me that github was important. Some other companies won't even look at it because you can't objectively rank it. Google may look at credible achievements. (I think there's some story of someone who was interviewed for a position with Google because they made this amazing tool on mac but then flunked the whiteboard exam). It does depend, definitely. No reason not to pass up good github experience. Put your shit on github, even if it's bad. Showing growth and diversity in what you're learning is great.

Pretty much any company that isn't some startup or irrelevant shitter will care. Basically any big name company is going to give you these questions. Unless you want to work at some irrelevant small company or accounting firm. All the serious software engineers study for this shit and go to places where they don't feel like they're dumbing themselves down every second while the koders go to Sprint and do the needful.

I think the reason we see so many of these threads now is because Jow Forums "grew up". Jow Forums used to be filled with 15 year old Windows Vista users posting their desktops every day and making fun of each other. These same users (or at least the people like this) ended up growing up and aiming for jobs in computers. Some decided to dedicate their time to learning how to program since they were 15, and others went to college to get a CS degree because they thought people would pay them to do what they did when they were 15, and others ended up being neets.
The people who learned to program (and maybe went to get a CS degree) are now finding their way into the workforce, eventually, and the CS anons saw the programming anons getting jobs and are now trying to scramble to learn programming and are shocked when companies don't want someone without a GitHub/CV/blog.

None of my job applications had any leetcode. It was just basic whiteboarding questions and behavioral answers. I was also realistic with my expectations that I probably wont start at top tech company with no work experience.

My dilemma now is that im doing basic programming and database work at a nontech company. My work is easy and not stressful and I set my own deadlines most of the time since my managers are so out of the loop of technology. The only thing I worry about is my how employable I will be in the future since I feel like im doing "simple" work.

I dunno, is it better to work my ass off all day to hope I can jump ship to a higher paying job or just stay content doing remedial software tasks for a few hours and then dick around for the rest of the day sipping free coffee.

Pretty much the most advanced thing I've done is variants of BFS/DFS. Not much more. Never done any projects and anyone who suggests it is a retard. Unless your project generates money I can guarantee you I don't really care when interviewing, because it's not a substitute for actual experience.
