Code Monkey

$110K USD
>>Do you like your job?
Ready to die
>>How many programming languages can you make something useful in?
Define useful.
>>How many programming languages can you at least fizzbuzz in?
As many as I can make something useful in; if you understands the concepts of programming, a mediocre implementation is a detail

unemployed for years because of this fucking country and society being shit
$0
no job
A fuckton
All of them

>ready to die
Why?

Legacy code base with oddball tech stack that makes it even harder to leave than it already is. It wouldn't be bad if the management weren't comically dysfunctional. Can only blame myself for staying so long.
I understand clearly that if I ever lost this job, it would likely end with me going back for training for a marketable skillset or trying to shift into another profession. Not crazy about what goes on in the finance world anymore.

>Do you like your job?
Yes. Having a good company helps.
>How many programming languages can you make something useful in?
All the core ones, so two. Bash and PowerShell.
>How many programming languages can you at least fizzbuzz in?
Probably both. I know the logic flow, I just need to translate it into code.

>Bash and PowerShell
Powershell actually seems like a cool shell scripting language. How is it in practice?

I'm fluent in bash and powershell and decent at c# and python and ruby
>How many programming languages can you at least fizzbuzz in?
all of the above and java and javascript since that's what my company writes apps in.
you'd be suprised how many fucking developers expect the ops side of the house to help them debug their shit code

You could flip burgers at In n' out for more than $56k/yr

jesus christ look at all these low paid ops nerds

that's standard pay in the midwest my dude
our developers make just as much if not a bit less at the same experience level (3 years)

Sucks to live in the midwest then. We pay JS monkeys straight out of bootcamp $95k+

yeah i'd rather live somewhere else but my rent isn't 3k a month either so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Stop living in overpriced shit places. You know, like fucking California. I hope that shit state falls into the goddamn ocean soon.

flyover faggots always post shit like this about rent. Stocks cost the same no matter what state you live in. Enjoy being a poorfag the rest of your life because you can't cut it in a city.

Full stack dev
My 2018 w2 was 183k
Yes
Probably 10
Probably 30

nice cope, seethe more please

What city webmonkey? What stack are you writing in?

Data engineer

~105k

Yes; good coworkers, good culture, work at most 35 hours a week, 3 minute commute by foot, good pay for area, lots of challenging problems with a relevant tech stack.

~3 or 4 maybe.

Handful.

A bit verbose at first, but you get used to it. The best part is when you append stuff to get- or set- based on what you're trying to do, and end up with a valid cmdlet.

True, but 56k in a place like Omaha is only ~$90k in a place like LA. And for stuff like college debt, your 401k, and stocks I'd rather have the 90k in LA, even with a slightly lower standard of living

+1 to that being a stupid question

>job
self employed engineering technician
>how much money
fuck all, last year was £18k
>do you like it
yes, a hundred times yes, it was real hard in the beginning but definitely worth the effort and ice cube sandwiches for months
>How many languages can you make something useful in?
2 or 3 (c# and python are the two main ones i use / have used)
>how many can you fizzbuzz
Only the ones related to above question, not a developer or programmer.

On the offchance you aren't LARPing, and advice on how to get to your position?

Start young. Accept that in your first few years you will make less than your friends. But persistence and reliability is key. Then all of a sudden one day, you'll get one or two very big clients (by recommendation) that will take you from around 75/year into the mid 100s.

When you start making more than enough to cover your personal expenses, invest your extra money. Housing (country depending), retirement package, shares, etc. That will really put cream on top if you persist with it.

I started at around 21 and I'm now 28

Excited about it but I know I failed myself in school. Stay in school and actually try lads.

I know a lot about compiler design, so I can make arbitrary languages, so... infinite.
I can create languages on the fly, write fizzbuzz, and compile them into many architectures...
