Do IDE Blu-Ray drives exist? I want one

If it fits and work in a Mac Pro 2007
That's a large ass desktop tower right? There should be enough space in it.
This is also where I'd say buy a PCI/PCI-E SATA controller but idk if OSX would support a generic one you can just buy in a store.
I've had it since 2014, new in box, and still works just fine. Lets me play my grand total of 5 HD DVD's
It uses Ubuntu on a SSD, never used OSX in my life. Do not worry, a nice machine with 64GB of RAM and the original pair of X5150 and a RX 580
Then you can get a SATA controller, you'll have better speeds and no IDE-SATA conversion issues. Most of the budget ones have a VIA chipset which works with any Linux distro from the past decade.

Why not just get a sata one?
Sata have been in use since 2004, surely you have a spare sata port?

What's an "hdd"?

I wish Lightscribe succeeded, is there a best way to print onto CDs?
>engrave M-DISK on a rock-like layer
They're screw holes, you put screws in them to mount the optical drive in the pic to a chassis.
20 bucks that'll make your build more appealing to boomers.
Technically true. M-DISC is unlike most recordable optical media in that the recording layer is inorganic and there is no reflective layer. The laser blows holes through the recording layer (which requires more power than recording on an organic dye), essentially engraving the data in it. The claims of far longer storage times aren't bullshit. Maybe 1,000 years is pushing it, but I'd expect 100 minimum if stored well.

It kinda triggers me that if you want the best of everything you would have to get an older player.
is there a particularly good USB CD drive for ripping CDs or should I just grab the cheapest one I find
The funny thing is that you can buy 25 DVD-Rs for the price of a single 100 GB BD-R XL. Sure, it's infinitely more inconvenient to have your data spread out across all those disks, but in terms of raw pricing DVDs can't be beaten which is why they still won't die off.
